The big problem with Ben, and other characters like him, like Luke, is that we already know how their story ends. No matter what happens in the TV series, at some point, Ben ends up on Tatooine, stays there for about 20 years, and then dies on the Original Death Star.
There are other stories out that that still haven’t ended, using characters that are still popular enough to draw audiences. I’d like to see how the crew from Rebels ends up, for instance. Do the Mandalorians ever get their shit together? Things like that.
Rank and file Star Wars fans just want to keep seeing the things they know over and over so they can wrap them around themselves like a warm blanket. As soon as there is something out of their comfort zone they rebel.
What I would love to see is something with starring roles going to more alien aliens. My go-to choices are Amanaman and Ephant Mon (or other members of their specieses.) I also really dig Dugs. And how about Praying Mantis Lady? How about Rainstick Nose?
A little to late to reply to this because I just finished watching the whole series, but yes. I got Léon vibes when watching it. It really looked like the beginning of that film, just like Rancor climbing up the building reminded me of King Kong
