It’s interesting that Butcher’s powers mimic Homelander. He’s the same as the focus of his anger, and Hughie has a power that lets him run away from responsiblity. Maybe it doesn’t mean anything….
I was also interested in their powers matching their personality. How the abilities work hasn’t been clear. I figured the supes who were raised from kids developed personalities based on their image, and in a case like Homelander to exaggerated effect. So maybe children didn’t have fully developed personalities but the adults do and the powers may also come from their inner nature.
Also, if Hughie can grab Starlight and teleport her why can’t he hold onto his clothes when he jumps?
Or then why doesn’t she lose her clothes as well, if he can only jump organic material?
Also, does The Derp (a mistype but I’m keeping it) have powers apart from swimming and talking to fish? He seems as useless as that blind guy if not. I’d assumed he had some kind of low-level strength.
She was naked after the jump.
Ah, I (unfortunately) missed that bit.
They just showed her from the shoulder up and then in the Pulp Fiction-esque t-shirt after she changed.
Ah. That shirt looked huge on her, so I wondered why she was wearing it.
I think one of the best parts of that last episode was the confrontation between Hugie and A-Train.
It did give A-Train at least a partial redemption before his death. But it doesn’t really make up for everything else he did. I mean his final act was still murder.
True, but the interesting part was how Hugie finally had power over him knowing he could die if he used his powers and demanded the apology fully expecting him to be a douche again and instead got a heartfelt apology from A-Train who didn’t even know Hugie could stand up to him now.
It’s unclear to me if A-Train actually died, lots of characters that pass out/are presumed dead come back.
I think all of the supers have at least some level of strength and toughness relative to mud people.
I assumed Translucent did the way he was throwing people around, anyway.
She still had earrings and makeup, though. Maybe the no-clothes thing is more of a subconscious quirk, not an actual limit.
That’s just asking for way too much consistency for a superhero show, even a satirical one .
Probably. Still, it would be funny if it turned out to be related to some aspect of Hughie’s psyche, like ongoing feelings of vulnerability being translated to nudity when his powers manifest. As others said above, it’s clear that the powers are reflections of their personalities–Butcher’s being a direct reflection of Homelander, and teleportation being a way of running away.
Hi all, (very) long time visitor, first time poster to the SDMB here. I suspect this may have been observed many times in prior posts so apologies if this is going over old ground, but just wanted to chip in as I am so impressed with this latest series. Who else feels that Homelander is a manifestation of Trump’s fantasy version of himself? Or even how he actually sees himself in reality?
The Boys has always had an underlying (or even overlaying!) satirical edge to it but I feel that the political and social commentary has been particularly overt in this latest run. For Homelander, read Trump, for Vought, the Republican Party, etc. In Vought’s case, they quite literally created the monster that may end up destroying them. I fear I may be stating the obvious with this post!
Yeah, lots of trump refences in the series, like when Homelander hosted a lunch, and served everyone taco bowls.
And when he became CEO and went around the room receiving compliments from everyone. Honestly the most Trump like is The Deep really. Same need to be loved but weak and cowardly.
Umm, that leaves just Homelander and The Deep in “The Seven”?
I think MM is wrong. They need to take down Homelander first.
