The Breakfast Club

Leftovers: roasted red potatoes, and a little bit of angel hair pasta with homemade alfredo sauce, and a piece of duck breast.

I hate breakfast foods in the morning

frozen whole-wheat waffles with butter and sugar-free syrup (oh, and cinnamon), and a bowl of wheaties with milk and Splenda. Hubby got up later, to make a sausage and sweet pepper and cheese omelet, and offered me one, but of course, I had already eaten; grrr. I always, always, always have a pot of coffee with breakfast, unless I’m very ill, in which case I’m not hungry anyway.

I’ve been having smoked salmon quite often lately; I’m not a huge fan of salmon cooked other ways, but one of my adages is: foods which are smoked are just that much better. So I’ll have some smoked salmon on interesting bread, plus some coffee or tea.

Another thing I’ve been getting recently is a bagel setup that I’ve found kicks ass: a garlic bagel, spread with a layer of scallion (or other, but I’ve found this works best) cream cheese, with sliced tomato on top of that, and some cheddar cheese on top of that. Mmm, good.

Also, when I want a cereal-type thing, I often will whip up some instant mashed potatoes instead. They can be topped with pretty much anything, even (don’t gag) sweet toppings. This versatility is something I consider a major benefit.

Toaster biscuit with Vegemite again, and a cuppa joe.

On the weekends at Chez Stonebow et FaerieBeth, breakfast is the sole province of Stonebow. He gets a kick out of trying to impress the children (which is relatively easy considering what they get during the week when schedules and times are tight). This weekend was hand-dipped French toast with maple syrup and assorted fruit on Saturday, and homemade hash browns and eggs on Sunday.

That man rocks with breakfast foods. His omelets are always perfect! His toast just the right color. I have breakfast envy, but at least I get to eat it!

Two buttermilk pancakes made with last summer’s blueberries, maple syrup, two strips of turkey bacon and coffee.

Wow! Breakfast for me was…coffee, and that’s it. I have got to start eating better and start eating breakfast too. However, on the few occasions I do eat breakfast, I enjoy fresh fruit and bagels with cream cheese.

Well, all you fine folks have made me hungry now, so off to Costco I go to replenish my pantry and fridge.

Rose at ten, and immediately made tea (Wissotzky raspberry, yum!).

Somewhere around 12:30 I fixed a big brunch: 2 slices of whole wheat toast with shmears of, ahem, onion-flavored cheddar processed cheese food (melted in the microwave), with three fried eggs on top, minus yolks (I fry them solid and then the yolks pop out easily), and three strips of bacon on the side. Drinks: 6 oz. V8 juice and 12 oz. lemon-spiked water (separately).

I just started drinking V8 this week, and I don’t think I’m ever going to stop. It still strikes me as rather weird, but in a wonderful way. (Esp. since they’ve reduced their notorious sodium levels from “overkill” to “kill”.) The last time I’d tried it (which was probably during the Reagan administration), I thought it was completely disgusting and too salty, to boot.

This is definitely a two-meal day, with snacks, of course.

I must say, you really managed to gross me out there! Few things in the world are more disgusting and overall yucky than Diet Dr. Pepper.

But anyway . . . this morning I ate half a can of over-salted cashews and half a glass of going-flat Sprite. A few hours later I ate my first real meal of the day, a large sausage pizza from Pizza Inn. I washed it down with half a glass of going-flat Sprite (killing the bottle).

I now go forth in search of a bottle of not-flat red Mountain Dew, which I will call lunch, even though it’s now after 4:30 in my time zone! Wish me luck!

 Really, I am astounded at the meals you people eat to start the hamster wheel up there! A piece of bread and juice!!! For 4 months now, no joke, I have eaten Boneless Buffalo Tenders, a side of fries, and a glass of water at Denny’s-with out fail-for breakfast (9 a.m.)…Don’t get me wrong now, this is very unhealthy–2-3 years off my life is about right–but I have a very fast metabolism, so I feel no gas pains, and do not gain a pound. What do I gain from such a hardy breakfast? Well, provided I have used the restroom the night before, improved concentration. I used to stick to milk and cereal bars…uggh…listening and concentrating…impossible! It is a bit expensive, but I figure it’s for a good cause…maybe…

Today was a little different than usual, because it was the weekend. I had a mug of Carnation Instant Breakfast (I live on this stuff) and some silver dollar pancakes that my dad made out of some weird “Shake ‘n’ Pour” Bisquick stuff. I ate them plain, no syrup or anything.

On weekdays, what I have been eating lately is the ubiquitous mug of Insta-Brek, as I like to call it, along with two “Homestyle” Eggo frozen waffles, toasted in the toaster oven until golden brown, then covered in margarine and sprinkled liberally with sugar. This is the best way to eat frozen waffles.

This is bizarre.

Doesnt anyone eat breakfast cereal any more? Jeeze some of the shit you guys eat is weird. Not having a go at you or anything, but I had to re-read the OP a few times to check I hadnt misunderstood the question.

Anyway, VitaBrits.

Diet Dr. Pepper is the only diet soft drink that is remotely drinkable, and since I down three or four a day, I’m saving myself 3-500 calories. And I’ve convinced myself I like it.

Re: Breakfast ceral. It’s just too expensive. 3-5 bucks a box over here for the decent stuff. I can pick up a loaf of good bread for under $2.

I do. However, because of my dietary restrictions, there are only a few that I can eat: whole grain, low sugar is required. There are only two or three that I really like.

About every couple of months, my local supermarket runs a special: buy 4 boxes of General Mills cereals (they make Total and Wheaties, two of the cereals that I can eat and like) and get $6.00 off your shopping order. By the time the sale rolls around, I’ve got coupons for them, too. Usually, $1.00 off any two boxes, so it ends up a total of $8.00 off. The cereal runs just under $4.00 for a good-size box, so this turns out to be about half-price.

2 sausages and 2 slices of bacon.

Doing Atkins.

The French Breakfast of Champions:

A pot of black coffee and a pack of unfiltered Gauloise.

In reality, I had a cup of coffee with cream and sugar, papaya and some Kellogs Smacks.

Cinnamon-raisin bagel with cream cheese, and 2% milk. Mmmmmm…Toasted, of course.

I’ve never tried toasted milk.

I understand about Atkins, but is this really all you ate? Where are your eggs? Where is your cheese (preferably scrambled into the eggs)? Boy, you’re gonna be hungry in a half an hour or so!

I’ll have a more rounded meal later on. The canteen in my work doesn’t do eggs in the morning only sausages and bacon with a French roll or bap. I took the filling out and left the roll.

Actually I rarely if ever eat breakfast. Was a bit hung over this morning and when I was queuing for some coffee the smell of the meat frying was just too much of a temptation.

Oh and BTW since I’ve started on Atkins I’ve been surprising lacking hunger pangs at all even when I really should be starving.
