The Burning Dog Crater -- Raidlist and other fun things for Cataclysm

:frowning:

Sorry about bailing out just before the end of BC last night. My wife was suddenly pretty angry with me for staying up late, which is why in the last two pulls I broke some CC and pulled an extra trash group - I was trying to heal and defuse my wife at the same time. I was hoping to finish but retreat seemed the better part of valor this time. I hope at least you all were able to finish and get the guild achievement.

Thanks for the regular run of HoO too – I know we were ostensibly doing it for Kalathan to get him closer to heroic-ready, but Kene really needed the experience too. I haven’t been 5-manning with him at all because in my few attempts he has gone OOM so quickly, but that run went a lot better so I have a little more confidence in him now.

Yeah, we got a healer pretty quick and finished up; only bad part was that the new guy won the roll for the chaos orb :(.

To be honest, the amount of time the new heroics take is part of why I’m quitting the game - I could do a Wrath heroic every so often without it completely taking up my evening and thus actually play the part of the game I was equipped for, with the odd dip into raiding when I felt like it and had a block of time; Cata heroics are enough longer, especially if there are wipes, that I just can’t.

It’s a bummer you’re taking a break (though I understand). Thinking about it selfishly, you’re the most available and geared tank we have, since Shin Kell is often out raiding. I think Moobird is our only alternate. I guess I could dual spec Keyne into prot, but I stopped playing my other prot pally because I really don’t like tanking.

After our HoO run last night, I dropped a little gold in the AH and upgraded my belt and footgear. That brought my gear level up to the level where I’m eligible for heroics.

Sorry I haven’t been on guys, my school this semester is a nightmare. My AI project alone has kept me at school 5-8 hours a day on top of classes, so it’s been really difficult to make it to anything online.

Yeah, Moobird is definitely the closest, and while I prefer standing back and pewpewing, I enjoy tanking too, even though it takes more brain power (esp Cata). Lightbird is also a tank, but I like having the option of going balance if another is available. I’m currently going for Elder/Love with him this week so I can try to run a few normals with ppl. It may take a few before I’m ready for PuGing.

Well, I had fun last night even though we lost the roll on the orb, and the healing replacement got a nice trinket on the last boss as well. That was the first time in that dungeon for me and even though we died on 3 bosses, I learned from it so I didn’t die again on the next fight. If we do that run again, we should be able to handle that run with very little or no problems.

I picked up two more tank pieces for my set should I ever get the balls to tank, which I would only dare to do with other guildies.

I don’t know how major a factor this is, but did you hear that there are major changes coming with today’s patch?

1.) The RDF bonus (5% to damage/healing/etc.) was broken (i.e., it was completely disabled in almost every instance). It’s now being not only fixed but buffed: you’ll get the 5% bonus for every RDF’d member of your group, up to a maximum of 15%.

2.) Many bosses are having mechanics altered and/or abilities nerfed to make them easier.

Heroics really will be a whole new ballgame as of 4.0.6. If that’s a major reason you’re stepping away, I’d really recommend at least giving them another shot.

Hey, I didn’t know SDMB had a guild! Are you guys recruiting or accepting new members? Is it a raid or casual guild? Or both? What time are y’all usually active?

I’m a career healer (all 4 of them 80+ atm) and it’d be nice to have a place to bug out to when I’m not raiding–which is only on Saturdays anyway (I mean, I only raid on Saturdays so I’m free the other 6 days of the week). Maybe I could make a dk alt (I’ve always wanted a goblin dk because of the purple hair) and join you in something? Maybe transfer over a hpal, rsham, or rdruid if you guys need one?

This sounds terribly like I’m inviting myself to a party, lol… and if you’re not recruiting that’s totally cool as well. If someone could reply here or PM me with the relevant deets, I’d appreciate it!

We’re pretty casual - we’ve been running guild heroics on Mondays and otherwise occasionally will group up for a heroic when we have a few people online and in the mood. The plan is to eventually dip back into raiding, though me retiring and taking our second-best-geared tank out of action for a while might put a crimp into that.

ETA: We’re Horde-side on Cairne, and there’s usually people on most evenings, though not a lot. do a /who Burning Dog and you’ll see whoever is on (or ask on the /sdmb channel).

How many members do you have, and what times are you active? I work second shift so I can’t really make afternoon events–I generally play around midnight-5am cst. (although I do anticipate my work schedule changing to something earlier in the next few months)

I am experienced in every heroic. And I’d offer to tank but I’ve only ever done it on alts. The idea is scary. I’ve always been more comfortable bringing up the rear as a healer :stuck_out_tongue:

Well… we have some people on the West Coast who are sometimes on at those times, and I sometimes get insomniac, but we really don’t have many people around after midnight.

Okay, thanks for letting me know! And good luck. If my work schedule changes I might bug the thread again

I’m getting a little desperate to find a guild at this point. I have one, and we’re raiding kinda, but I believe it’s about to explode due to drama and mismatched expectations. If all our top dps stop showing up, there’s no point in staying anyway.

“Should”. There’s companies which set up their webpages to detect what are you using and directly refuse to load to anything but IE.

I avoid doing business with them, but when one happens to be the local power supplier… :smack:

Actually, on the question of tanks, I have an 82 DK on Cairne I’ve been holding off on pushing through to 85.

I’ve got perhaps 20-25 pug heroics down on my Mage, but no experience with end-game tanking, but I’d love to give it a try! I’m also leveling up a Prot Pally, so I’ve got some low-level tanking experience.

If you don’t mind dealing with a new tank, I’d be happy to try to fill in.

For sure, rachel, even if you don’t bring over your high-level characters, I’d say you should roll an alt. A lot of us on the board keep alts in the BDL even if we don’t play on the server on a regular basis. (Like me: my main will never be here unless I give up raiding–unlikely–but I have a 50-something Troll Hunter on Cairne.)

Rachel, the more the merrier. The guild has well over 200 members, but a lot of them are alts and/or inactive. But there are usually 5-10 folks online during the evenings and sometimes a lot more.

Near the end of Wrath we were raiding casually on Monday nights, and the goal is to eventually get to that point again, but there is not a lot of urgency. Most folks are gearing up through dungeons and heroics right now, or levelling alts.

You can change your browser’s user-agent string to identify itself as any browser you like. Just look up common user-agent strings, configure your browser to use that particular one, and voila – stupid website now thinks your Firefox is IE8

There’s at least one Firefox add-on that will do that for you with a nice drop-down menu. (“Agent Switcher” I think, but I don’t remember exactly).
