The Burning Dog Crater -- Raidlist and other fun things for Cataclysm

Hmm, should I queue as tank or dps? It’s much easier to blend in as a bad dps. (though if my experience yesterday was any indication, it looks like healers may be harder to find)

This is my plan.

Although, I did spend about 200g to reforge all my dps gear yesterday so maybe I’ll be able to squeak out another 1-2k dps.

Ok, so I had a fun taste of playing with folks last night; I think I want to delve (slightly) into the multi-player PvE aspects of the game. What sorts of add-ons/tips do you all have? I’m playing a completely unmodded version of wow, just clicking on skills in my (single) skill bar. I’d like to be actually helpful/useful with my hunter. I think I have my ‘sequence of skills’ down fairly well.

Not an addon, but you’ll want to get Ventrilo (and a microphone or headset) so you can talk to and hear us during runs. Vent is a free download, and you’ll need our server/port/password information to join us, which is posted under Guild Information. Anyone can help you set it up once you’ve installed it.

As far as addons, there are not too many must-haves for 5-mans but several that are helpful. It’s nice to have an addon that warns you about boss abilities and timers - I use Deadly Boss Mod (DBM). Others might recommend something else.

An addon that tells you how much damage you’re doing is helpful. I use Recount.

Threatplates (or Threat Plates?) is an addon that can help you easily tell if you are attracting too much aggro on mobs. It helps you to target mobs in a group who are in no danger of turning around and coming after you. It turns their nameplate green when you’re safe, yellow when you’re getting close to having aggro and red when they’re after you.

Others can recommend addons for hunters; the other ones I use in 5-mans are either for healing or to track my DoTs which is not as important for you.

But the way I also recommend Postal (lets you open all your mail at once) and Sell Junk (lets you vendor all your grey items at once).

ETA: Forgot to add – nice to have you join us for the run!

Beyond what Skammer recommended, you mention “clicking” your skills in a single bar.

IMO, the best things you can do to increase your DPS are to set up multiple bars (I use the Bartender add-on) and keybind all of your important abilities. Then practice moving with the mouse+keyboard and pressing keyboard buttons to “fire” your abilities. You will find that with practice your reaction time will be significantly faster using keybinds than the mouse. For movement you should be strafing much more than turning - I tend to have the right mouse button pretty much held down during a boss fight as I strafe around using the keyboard and hit abilities with keybinds.

Just one hunter’s opinion.

Oh, and the nameplate add-on is called Tidy Plates with the Threat Plates skin (two separate add-ons, I believe, but you might be able to find them packaged as one).

As far as LFR goes it’s actually faster to queue as DPS, I think. The downside of queueing as both tank and DPS is you get bounced back and forth as people leave and join (I went DPS, tank, tank, DPS in my run yesterday).

Yeah, it was nice to get you involved! Sorry about the auto-dc there at the end. I hope that doesn’t happen again.
Don’t get overwhelmed by addons. DBM is nice and Recount is helpful (though I use Skada which includes a threat meter as well) But once you get used to the key-bindings, thing’s will go smooth. Dungeons are a good way to have some fun. Especially with our group. Hope to see you next Monday! Though with Skammer going, we’ll need to find a heals to fill in. (maybe we can get one more week out of him) If Kal can Tank then I can try healing on Moo (using balance gear shouldn’t be too bad), though we should try and figure that out before Monday night:)

VENT NEWS
So, with SW starting, I think I’ll open up our Vent to them as well. Unless anyone has some objections, I’ll post the info to that guild page. Currently the system is setup for 15 people, I don’t think we’ll hit that many, but if we do, we can figure something out then. I’ll also adjust the ‘rooms’. Adding WoW and SWTOR and then a few random ‘groups’

Thanks Bird! I was going to ask about using vent for both games. That’ll make it easier to reach me too, if you need a healer and see me in vent, at least until my WoW subscription runs out.

I will try to help you get your Justice/Valor Points (through more 5mans) to upgrade your gear…also, do grab any gems in the guild vault that will boost your spec’s dps. Whatever helps get your item levels up so you can get into the higher end runs. If we get a third guildie to help, then we get more guild XP which helps the entire guild. Anything you see in Blacksmithing, I can probably make except maybe the highest levels of gear (378 and higher, atm).

So, PM me your account name, and maybe I will give you a Christmas Present!

Sorry, I promised my wife that I would not be playing both games. She has made that very clear. :frowning: It’s not so much the money, she just irrationally hates WoW.

Still, I’ll come back if SWTOR turns out to be a bust.

Skammer, are you good for another 2v2 sometime this weekend? One last Huzzah?

Sure, I feel bad for breaking up the team. I’ll make sure I’m on vent tonight (either the lobby or the SWTOR room) so hail me when you get online. If I happen to be offline when you log in, I’ll be back.

In case anyone missed it:

The Burning Tongue Brigade is now a **Level 2 **guild!

Woohoo! 5% extra XP!

So do the new dungeons have an iLvl requirement high above the previous heroics? If not I want to try them really bad, lore-wise they’re cool and if we have enough free on Monday I’d really like to see if I can do them with you guys. If not, I’m not sure I can bring myself to grind much since the troll heroics got stale fast.

I found it was very easy to get my hunter (started somewhere around 340 iLvl) up to the new heroic threshold. The key is that even the old 5-mans drop points which now turn in for 378 gear. Only takes a few pieces to get that level up. In fact, I didn’t finish a single troll dungeon other than the one I zoned in on the last boss for.

Oh, and the trolls are in the normal queue now - you don’t queue for them separately in the random dungeon finder. I personally just dropped if a troll popped at the start of the dungeon.

I had meant to post this on our guild thread instead of the General WoW thread:

I managed a partial Fall of Deathwing run last night – we took down Ultraxion and Warmaster Blackhorn before I had to drop out. However, I did win the rolls for both of the paladin tokens that dropped, so I was able to buy Helmet of Radiant Glory and Battleplate of Radiant Glory. Can’t complain about that!

Grats Runestar! That’s a big jump. and the 2pc doesn’t hurt much either!
So you guys (from Yeti’s post too) did LFR or did you get into a random 10-man run?

I’m back in town, so I should be available on Mondays again.

We just grouped and then did an LFR.

Missed the edit window while I was mulling my updated post, darn it.

The gear upgrades aren’t that big a jump: level 378 to level 384, although the extra red gem slot is nice. At least with two pieces I gain the 2-piece Radiant set bonus (a successful Judgement grants you 1 Holy Power), but I do lose the 4-piece Immolation set bonus (Zealotry lasts for 15 more seconds). At least I still get the 2-piece Immolation set bonus, as I’m still wearing the Immolation hand and leg armor.

What I need is an upgrade for my shoulder armor for my Retribution gear set; it’s still level 353, and everything else I’m wearing in that gear set is 378 or higher (except my Alchemist’s Stone trinket).
