No, Demo, although I have run MEMTEST exhaustively, with no errors.
With the large numbers (96% NVidia GPU users, it seems, and many with Realtek on-board audio) of people reporting WoW crashes, well…hard to draw solid conclusions. Up until two weeks ago my crashes were solely in WoW; now I get them on occasion in one other game (business apps are fine).
Part of me says give it up and use the 360 for games, what with Civilization coming out for the 360, but there’s really no MMORPG on the 360.
Yeah, I’m finding that queue to bit a bit off-putting, and it is worse than it was a few weeks ago (summer, I guess). So much so that I ended up going to Eonar, where I have about six characters, and refreshing my memory as to how bad I suck as a Mage.
Yeah, who said we should go to a new server? haha.
My plan is to login immediately when I get home. Then turn on the hockey game and watch that for a while while I move up in the queue. I’ve found that if you sit on the ‘choose character’ screen for a while, it logs you out of the server, but relogging goes much faster. Not sure why.
I think there is a (roughly) 5-minute grace period. I know that if I crash or otherwise get disconnected, I still have time to do a full reboot and relogin with no queue.
I did mention Thunderhorn as an option and was voted down. I never have a queue playing there…so I am back playing there because I really just do not want to wait to get into the game to play.
You know, I’m dropping all sorts of balls lately! First not playing Wow, and second not realizing my SDMB log in has expired. I wonder if I won’t be a charter member anymore…
Anyway, just wanted to drop by and say that my character Rulca plans to come back, so please don’t guild kick her because of the lack of play time now or for the next few months. (You can guild kick my alt ‘Stampy’ as I won’t be playing her).
I got her to the early twenties and realized my leveling option was south in the land o’ the undeads (I remembered the quest with the cute dog and just couldn’t bring myself to do it again - Plus, I just bought CIV IV and the latest Sims expansion pack, and golly I just can’t stay away from stuff like that!)
Otherwise, hope everyone is having fun and not leveling too darn fast!
I probably should see if my issue is resolved, anyone know if any patches have addressed the problems? I’ve gotten lost between EVE and AOC with two different real life friends, along with some new exercise regiment for the summer. But I’ll set up a few WoW days with the good ol dopers every week if everything’s fixed.
I’m not in the know, but all I am seeing when I search on that are complaints, lots of complaints, so I’m not sure if the crashing problem has been fixed. (I also found out that when they talk about ‘Wow with Wine’, they don’t mean it in the same way I mean it.)
Er, but maybe someone with more connections (or…basic understanding of this type of thing) will have more info.
Hey, I’m going to be looking to run Caverns of Time - Old Hillsbrad this evening. Probably around 5-6 PST. I just hit 375 alchemy last night and I’ll be doing the master of elixirs quest as soon as I hit 68, which means I need to run Dark Portal for quest item drops a few times. In order to do DP, I need to do OHB first, so…who’s in?
I don’t want to appear to be stirring up trouble, especially as I am “the new guy” on WOW, but would it be possible for you, Jragon, to get on and promote somebody to Interim Guildmaster until your graphics issues are resolved (hopefully) by Blizzard? Are you able to log on at all currently, or are the problems intermittent? Is it possible to have two GMs? Is there a guild level that has all the administrative powers to do all the day-to-day tasks that we need (buying tabs, changing the MOTD to congratulate people dinging 70, etc) that is short of GM? I hope I don’t come off sounding like I want you ousted from the guild; in fact it was you in another thread that got me playing in the first place. If it is possible, I hereby nominate my short list of Interim-Vice-Co-Jr-GMs as follows (and without their permission): Kruler, Kene, Demo or Bipp They seem to be on quite a bit, having sufficient level and knowledge, and are very friendly and helpful IMO. (I am sure I am leaving out lots of people who are equally qualified but I am at work and am having a brain cramp.)

PS If the rest (and more senior) of the guildies feel I am way off base with this request, I will shove off.
I don’t think you’re off base at all, kjckjc. Omencaller had some of these privileges, but since he/she is playing another game this month (at least), we are feeling the absence of even an alternate leader. I am probably not a good choice, though, because I am new to the game.
Personally, I’m getting booted quickly, like on the character selection screen. Otherwise I’d have no issue with the request.
I’ve been trying things to personally work around the issue, maybe I can get it to work soon.
Does anyone want to vote me out of the position permanently (graphics or no) though? Not adverse to it, of course, just want to know (as I’m ahem behind.) Frotty/palooka should be able to perform MOST GM duties (except setting privileges) but I’m not sure how often he’s on.
As far as I know, Frotty isn’t playing anymore on our server, and hasn’t in months. And with you gone, there is no one with full privileges.
I know the solution to the character screen booting issue, since I had experienced it myself. Please try this fix so you can sign on and pass along the reins to a frequent player:
There is currently an issue where some players are now being disconnected immediately after logging in to the game. We have found this to be related to the Tournament Realms having been selected as their default realm due to a bug. This is slated to be fixed in a future patch but for those who are affected by this now, manually changing your realm under the Config.wtf game file has resolved the issue for many players experiencing it. Instructions can be found below:
Completely exit out of the game.
Open the World of Warcraft folder on your hard drive (Default Folder: C:\Program Files\World of Warcraft).
Open the WTF folder.
Open the Config.wtf file using a text editor, like WordPad.
Locate the line:
SET realmName “Realm Name”
Change this to: SET realmName “Your Realm”
-Example: SET realmName “Silver Hand”
Save the file and test the game out again. If you are using Windows Vista, please also check for the same Config.wtf file in the following directory (Please make sure hidden files/folders are being shown under your folder options. At the Windows Explorer window select Tools -> Folder Options and select this option under the View tab):
C:\Users<your windows account name>\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files\World of Warcraft
Simply deleting the Config.wtf has also resolved this issue. If manually changing the realm does not resolve this specific login issue, please try completely deleting the file. If the issue still persists or the issue is not related to the Tournament Realms having been selected, please create a new thread for further assistance.
Tried that, basically what happens is my screen freezes into chunks of random pixels (kind of like “snow” on a bad reception on a TV, except instead of moving it stays the same), the program closes and the screen reloads on my desktop with a critical error message I get when my video card crashes.
Okay, tomorrow I’ll pop open my PC and remove my card and reinstall my old AT integrated card (which should be an adventure since my computer doesn’t know about it anymore, I eradicated all traces of it a couple years ago because it tended to argue with my NVidia cards). Afterwards I’ll sell all my stuff, donate the gold to the bank, designate a new leader, delete my chars and leave you all on your way, this is the only way I can think of to be useful to the guild. I’ll try this tomorrow morning.
