Sorry I haven’t logged on to Cairne in so long. I haven’t even checked the SDMB in a very long time either, the last time being the date of my previous post in this thread.
There’s two reasons I haven’t logged in recently. One, my main is in a fairly hardcore guild that recently downed Illidan for the first time. We raid four nights a week for four hours, which brings me to reason number two. I’m getting a bit burned out on the game and for the last few weeks I have only been logging in the minimum required to raid and farm for all my raiding consumables.
I do miss chatting with you all and I’ll try to log in once in a while to say hi. I’m happy to see Bipp made 70. Grats!
Of the six of us who have reached level 60, half of us are priests and all three priests are specced shadow (for obvious reasons; it’s the easiest spec to level).
I don’t know if Kruler or Jarryn were planning to respec to Holy any time, but it was always my plan to do so at 70. But after reading up on the forums, and constantly getting invites to heal in parties, I’m thinking about respeccing Holy right now. Plus, I kind of miss using Holy Fire and Smite, even if they are not as efficient as Mind Flay. Do you dare me?
I figure also when we get to group together again, Jarryn and I won’t have to /roll to see who has to heal.
I renewed to respond, so the good news is that according to Murphy’s law, the board will go free-to-post within the next couple of days.
From someone who made the mistake of leveling half of the 60s as holy/smite – stay shadow. I have no problem re-spec’ing to holy, and indeed expected to at some point, for instancing. I also have the current income (thanks to dailies) to support a little bouncing back and forth.
Smite is not a great leveling spec and you’ll just end up delaying 70.
I agree with Kruler. Not only will it be a lot easier to level being shadow, it won’t really be a problem healing anything up until heroics/raids as shadow. I have a 70 priest as well and that’s what I did. You can always keep a set of healing gear around, but you probably won’t need to since most of the gear upgrades you’ll get in Outlands are +dmg/heal anyway, to apply to all clothies. But if you really miss smite, hey, knock yourself out.
I’m living between 2 locations for the next few days, because one of the California fires is uncomfortably close to my home. I’ve taken our pets to my mother’s vacation condo, where we spent the night last night, and my car is packed with family photos. We hope to spend some time at home during the daytime when the weather conditions are favorable, and then return to the condo in the afternoon/evenings when winds pick up, so we can sleep through the night in safety.
So you may see me ingame occasionally during the day, but I’m not likely to be playing at night for a bit.
An update: last night the fire spread dramatically, becoming a firestorm, and a manditory evacuation was ordered. My kids and I and pets are united and safe, but our home is in the direct path of the fire. Typically in the early day there is calm in my area, but canyon winds will pick up in the afternoon and evening hours once again, pushing the fire hard and fast.
I have saved only a change of clothing and photos, my computer is still at home, as are most of my valuables. There were some tense times last night, when I was unable to locate my son for several hours, so right now all I can feel is great gratitude that I have my loved ones with me.
It looks unlikely that we will be allowed back to our home to retrieve more things any time soon. The firefighters are exhausted from battling fires for the last two weeks elsewhere in CA, and are working 24-hour shifts, aggressively protecting homes. This has been a wildfire, in steep, difficult terrain, but is presently parked right on the edge of housing, poised to threaten our home when the winds shift later today.
Internet access is very sporadic, with power outages and surges frequent, but I will try to stay in touch. Your prayers and positive thoughts would be appreciated.
Thank you all for your concern for us during this past week. We made Astronomy Picture of the Day . From July 5th, this is my town with the fire in the background, and the moon, Saturn and Mars lining up.
So now that I’m 70, I find myself doing one of 3 things. Instances, BGs or some remaining quests. I wanted to see what other legionnaires thought about trying something new.
Idea 1) Partner up with a ‘sister’-guild to give us access to a larger pool of 70s with which to run instances/raids. I have no ideas on who, but didn’t want to pursue the idea without any confirmation. I do see some of the same guilds out there when I PuG. Any other ideas?
Idea 2) Start an Arena Team. I don’t know much about Arena teams, except that it’s another way to get PvP rewards. The nice thing is that after a while, you should be matched up based on previous success/failures. So in effect you should be on the same level as your opponent.
I’ve been itching to try the arena myself. Although my first few practice games went poorly. I have a very hard time as a shadow priest against rogues, and both games were against 2 rogue teams – stun locked to death.
I wouldn’t be opposed to adding to our people pool, but I don’t personally think I’m properly geared for anything over a 5 man just yet. Been focusing on getting pvp gear, which is completely absent of mp5, leaving me no longevity for difficult pve fights.
I’m down with both of those ideas. I’m itching to get this toon into Kara, but we rarely have enough on to even do 5 mans. I’ve also thought recruiting would be a good idea, although I think we need to be really picky about it. I really don’t want any immature kids or anything. As for the arena, you know I loves me some pvp, so I’d be down with starting a team as well. I like 2s and 3s…5s are kind of annoying.
Agree on the careful selection… I’d propose an application process of some sort for non-Dopers. Maybe an introductory email to get an idea of personality, background, interests (we’re not going to hold on to any member looking for hard-core raiding, etc.), and make an effort to group up with them before extending an invite – instances, battlegrounds, etc.
Yeah, the best way to get people into small guilds is by looking for unguilded people you party with and, if they’re good at their class and seem cool to give them a /ginvite and try them out for a bit.
That and, I think when transfers open up, we should do a new thread to see if any SDMBers have horde toons they got bored with and see if they want to join up. WotLK should be coming out shortly after(I’m guessing another xmas time release) so interest should be renewed.
Yeah, we have that guild-Rank1 we can use. (And I think they are limited on our gbank tabs) That way we can try them out, and after a bit we can promote them. You can also see their ‘status’ by checking their rank.
BTW mounts at 30 are available as of today!
