The CanaDoper Café, 2013 edition.

Hands off, you vultures! He’s ours! We voted him in fair and square! :mad:

Have I mentioned recently that I’m on a first-name basis with Mr. Nenshi? :cool:

And because things weren’t bad enough already, today we had a CP Rail bridge collapse, closing our busiest highway (Deerfoot Trail) for most of the day. The rail cars were carrying hazardous goods, of course. Ay yi yi.

For some reason I find myself doubting you. :wink:

For all you non-Calgarians who want to watch our mayor talk about the flood, he’s on TV right now, until 8:00 MT:

Oh really? :stuck_out_tongue:

It’s true - when Naheed was campaigning for mayor, we saw him on a street shaking hands, etc., and I got to watch Jim and Naheed re-connect since they had known each other when they were both movers and shakers on the University of Calgary campus back in the day. :slight_smile:

That’s “Straight Dope” quality right there…

There’s only one thing to do.

Naheed Nenshi for Federal Parliament!!!

Canada’s a small country people-wise - I think we’re all about three steps from knowing each other. :smiley:

More photos from Calgary today (in Sunnyside again) -

big pile of garbage taken out of houses;

front-end loader picking up garbage from street and dumping it;

bobcats cleaning up debris and extra streetlights.

The Feds already have Rob Anders. The politicians that stay awake on the job stay here!

It was 32 years ago today that Terry Fox died.

It isn’t that 32 is that significant an anniversary, I just thought I’d mention a true Canadian hero in the days coming up to Canada Day. Now THAT was a courageous spirit; may his memory live on.

Thanks for that reminder Le Ministre. I actually teared up a bit reading your post.

Terry is amongst a handful of Canadian icons that I hold close.

Thanks for the mention, Ministre.

Hmm, maybe you have something there. :slight_smile:

Meanwhile, in Laval (city near Montreal), there’s something going on about their mayor and prostitutes. Umm, what.

I recall that we had a discussion with our US American compatriots here about Terry Fox, and I don’t think we were able to describe to them what Terry Fox means to us. “So, he’s a guy that ran with only one leg?” No! He’s so much more than that! Oh well.

I hate to disappoint you all, but I’m afraid that Mayor Nenshi is too competent to go into politics long-term. :slight_smile: Although, on the other hand, he does seem to be one of the rare people who gets what “public service” is supposed to mean.

Work is all abuzz about this right now. It’s where a lot of my colleagues live.

I just saw that on CBC News - they have reporters en route right now, so we’ll be hearing about what exactly is going on very soon, I assume.

Apparently they’ve now arrested a suspect.

Good!

Believe it or not I am now leaving to drive to Petawawa to pick up my car pool buddy from his lunch “meeting” with his group.

If you guys aren’t completely tired of hearing about the Calgary/Southern Alberta floods yet, here’s a great time lapse video of the National Music Centre getting flooded.

That Petawawa story is so bizarre - I guess we’ll have to wait to see why the guy stabbed three other people.
