Cleveland is alot more aggresive now that he’s got his own show. The Cleveland Jr subplot was funnier. Some of the toilet stalls at my high school didn’t have doors (including in the lockerroom) and those were probally the cleanest toilets in the whole school. So can everyone understand Rollo all the time (as opposed to Stewie only being understood some of the time).
Alot of tonight’s Family Guy was just a rehash of When You Wish Upon a Weinstein. Have we even seen their accountant since then? When Peter was having his vision of Francis who else was waiting form him to make a “You’re not my real father” gag?
American Dad was the best of the three. I liked the Snot vs Steve subplot better that the Roger & Stan A plot. I’m suprised they didn’t just have Steve ask for help peeing while he was at Snot’s house. I also thought Snot’s mother would be MILFier (isn’t he the one with the revolving stepdads?).
Mostly, yeah. I loved the “Super Friends” opening (and it sure brought back memories of Saturday mornings past) and was a bit disappointed that the rest of the show didn’t have anything to do with it. And Quagmire discovering internet porn was hilarious. But the main storyline was meh.
Cleveland Show - I had very low hopes for this in the beginning, but I enjoyed the pilot much more than I expected to. This week, though… just ‘meh’. part of the reason Family Guy works (usually) is that the characters are so completely devoid of any real human emotion or sense of consequenses. It’s a silly over-the-top cartoon and proud of it. But Cleveland, trying his best to be a good father and step-father, working through a real moral dilemma – but in the FG universe with talking bears and dog-eating hillbillies – just didn’t seem to work. Maybe the show’ll find its own rythym in time, but it hasn’t yet. And Cleveland as Halle Berry? Just… weird.
Family Guy - A bit of a mixed bag… Loved the Super-Friends opening! I enjoyed the Kathy Ireland cutout bit, especially the shower scene; liked the concept of Quagmire discovering internet porn, though the payoff could have been better. Once the “Lois is Jewish” plot kicked in, it kind of went downhill from there.
American Dad - The best of the three last night. Both the A and B plots were solid. Steve and Snot’s re-enactments with the balloons were great, as was the resolution - “I can feel your heartbeat!” The Stan-Roger dynamic was a bit forced, but it was a nicely constructed story.
I’m usually in tune with Seth McFarlane’s sense of humor, but I think overall there were more misses than hits last night. I wonder how much creative control he has over each of the 3 shows. Is he stretching himself a bit too thin, perhaps?
That is pretty much what I was thinking. Plus, Even for Family Guy this was continuity busting. In the show which has no continuity except where they please.
I got a good laugh in the FG scene where Quagmire realized that Cleveland got the spinoff instead of him. I’m still giving Cleveland a chance even though the episodes have not been very good so far. One more strike and it gets removed from my DVR schedule.
I agree with the “Cleveland needs to find his identity” statement. It seems to be a lot of Family Guy (cutaways and the like), with a little American Dad thrown in (Written jokes, way more plot based) But it’s too much of both, and not enough of either. I still think it’s funny enough. American Dad started off pretty “eh” but once it caught steam, it was (and continues to be) good.
