Yeah, looking at the NWS radar, Nashville’s getting hit pretty good; our share of the storm is still west of here, but all the danger warnings are on the Miss-Ala border so it’ll be crossing into my area pretty soon. Everything is inside (including me). I was looking at a flight tracking page (https://planefinder.net/), and they are routing flights around the storm, for example, Atlanta to Dallas is going north almost to Ohio before they head west and south.
Have eaten and done a little more packing. One thing I need to do is pull all the picture holders out of the walls (there are a lot of them)–need to get a pliers and a sandwich bag.
I went to Target to spend my gift card and was reminded of how much I hate Target. I wanted a pair of bedroom slippers. They had exactly one adult pair, not in my size, and ugly. So I got some DentaStix for Higgs, an over-the-door towel rack for the kitchen, a toothbrush holder, a can of Rotel, and 2 small tubes of hand lotion for my purse. I had to supplement the gift card with $1.24 of my own…
Then to WalMart where I got my slippers, and the other things on my list. Home again, I made a big pot of chili for **FCD **which he said is good but a bit hot, tho eating it with sour cream helps. Note to self - ease up on the red pepper flakes next time.
Then Roxy and I took a walk and chatted with some neighbors and their 4-y/o grandson. The boy had one of those battery-powered 4X4 cars and Roxy climbed behind the wheel. I had to finally pull her out and she cried the whole way home. So I was looking on line for pedal cars. I refuse to get her a powered vehicle - she can use her little legs, dammit! Except Daughter would rather she has a bike, so we shall see what she gets when she turns 2…
And now - time for a load of t-shirt and socks, because that’s the thrill my day has lacked!
Woke up yesterday with a sore throat and a hellacious headache. Wifey has had a cold for the last two weeks so maybe it was my turn. Anyway, gargled with salt water and rinsed out my sinuses with a neti pot sorta thing. Feel better this morning but still talking like a bucket full of bullfrogs. I hope this isn’t going to be one of my slow-motion sorta colds that I used to get.
Other than that, nothing happening here. Wifey is out showing houses. I need to decide on something for dinner. I feel like soup of some kind, but don’t know what. Maybe just steaks and N.O.T. :dubious:
We’re supposed to get snow for the next few days, starting Monday. We’d like to go to the little house in Central Orygun but we’re afraid of getting snowed in over there and missing my gall bladder yanking the 22nd. It hasn’t been bothering me much lately, but iffen it’s gonna produce stones (I have a 5mm one and a 10mm one) it needs to go eventually, so this is a good time. I just hope they can do it laparoscopically (sp?) like they’re planning.
I feel ya about Target Mom. I used to like going there years ago. They had pretty good stuff at good prices then, but I feel like the bean-counters have got aholt of the reins lately and ruined it.
Well, I suppose I should go forage in the freezer.
We slept in tremendously late. I’m trying to get everyone (including me) rallied to go over to my folks and visit with some cousins who dropped by.
After that, quiet day?
**Bumba **- I think these days it’s gotta be pretty extreme to have a gallbladderectomy to be anything other than a laparoscopic out-patient procedure. **FCD **did end up spending a couple of nights in the hospital when he got his yanked, but it’s because it had become terribly infected and his Dr didn’t catch the report till we called about it a week later… Yeah, I’m still a tad bitter about it, even 20 years later.
Laundry is done. Roxy had some swing time in the yard, then she “drove” FCD’s truck, then my car. Considering all the buttons she pushed, I dread starting the car. She’s now having Mama time, and I’m about to assume the afghaning position.
Howdy Y’all! Kept gettin’ the certificate thingy warnin’ this mornin’ and even early afternoon so didn’t bother to post. Right now ‘tis 73 Amurrkin out and cloudy/windy. We are under a tornado watch and the nasty weather should be here around eight. Fine by me as we’re inside to stay. This mornin’ we went and broke fast, got haircuts, ran a couple of errands and were back at da cave right around ten. Since then it’s been chillage and nappage.
Just finished closing up the house. With sunset, the temps have dropped rapidly. I just ate a pulled poke sammich, but it wasn’t very satisfying. What I really wanted was Chinese food, but I didn’t feel like going out. Oh well…
Other than that some rain but some serious wind. Expect the garage is going to take more of a hit. Plan on running the Sportie tomorrow with hoipes of using it for work a couple days this week.
Well, I guess the storm was a little fiercer than I gave it credit for. We had wind and lightning and copious amounts of rain, but no tornadoes in the general area so I figured there was no problem…until I looked out my back door about 4:20pm.
A 20’ section of 6’ tall wood fence was lying flat on the ground in my neighbors yard. Went out and looked at it, the posts had broken off and it was fortunate that it didn’t pull the whole back fence down. Alerted the neighbors (whom I have never met, being they are on another street and the privacy fence), who were a little surprised that there was a knock at their back door…but they seem to be good people and don’t mind the fence being in their yard (which is just as well, you’d need 4-5 guys to move it). Called the folks who put the fence up, it’s only 4-5 years old, they should be out here Monday and I intend to ask them why their ‘quality’ product performed so poorly.
Pictures, if anyone is interested, are at my Facebook page (PM me for the address).
So…just what I needed when I’m trying to do the repainting/reflooring/refurnituring of the house.
swampy, take in your valuables…I can testify this storm is the real deal.
Bumba, like FCM says, it’ll take something extreme to do it the old way, and it sounds like you can get it pulled and out the next morning at the latest (or the afternoon if you get it done early).
Moooooom, if you don’t like going into Tar-jay, use their online shopping and pick stuff up at the store. Kid you not, they had my tablet ready for me before I got out to my car to leave for the store. Once there, it was all of ten minutes, in and out.
I’ve lounged around most of the day. Laundry is done, a beastloaf, green beans and sweet taters for supper done and the spinach stuffed shells ready to put in the oven in the morning for the potluck. I’ll fart around in the studio some tonight though.
Speaking of team spirits, I saw an obituary the other day in our paper. When it came to the visitation, it said that it would start following the KC Chiefs game tomorrow.
The guest of honor was a real fan it seems, and didn’t want others to miss the game.
Went to a thing today that featured a Native American (Cherokee) demonstrating how he makes shakers (rattles). Very interesting. He buys the largest rawhide dog chews he can find, then soaks them and deconstructs them and uses the leather sheets for his rattle pouches. Very clever and inexpensive. The Mt. Hood Cherokees are a really nice group of folks; very welcoming and friendly.
