The "counting one's blessings" MMP

Foil sheets also work. Most cats dislike the sound/feel of foil under their paws.

Or, the “blender defender.” (Blender and strobe lights hooked up to a motion sensor.)

As someone who works (and has worked a lot in the past) behind a cash register … we often just don’t wanna ask.

“How old ARE you?!” doesn’t go over well.

May I suggest asking for it? Or even more politely, “Do you offer any senior discounts?” Most cashiers will bend over backwards for polite, kind people.

Hell, when I could get away with it, anyone who was super-nice to me got a “senior” discount. Just because I could. (We wage slaves don’t often get a feeling of power.)

LOL!!! I want one of those to prank hubs!!!

Honestly though, hubs is a big part of the problem. If George is looking cute (and he’s a kitten, he can’t help but look cute) hubs will laugh and call me to look before pushing George down while the spray bottle is sitting unused on the table next to him.

I’ll give the foil a try if the lids don’t work. Another part of the problem is that George doesn’t seem to be all that bright. Maybe its because he’s a kitten, or maybe its because his breeder valued incredible good looks over smarts.

I’ve had cats that enjoyed going on leash walkies in our fenced back yard, so I thought George might like it. I waited until he was chilling on the bed and loosely fastened the harness on him. George didn’t fight or protest, he just laid there so I was happy with him for being so mellow about it.

As it turns out, he wasn’t mellow, I broke him. The simple act of putting a couple ounces of nylon strap on him did something to gravity and made him unable to move. He couldn’t even pick his head up he was being pressed down so hard. I took pity on him after half an hour and took the harness off and he was just fine, like nothing had ever happened.

If if works the same way next time I try it, it might be a wonderful claw trimming tool!

My dad died 19 years ago today - massive heart attack. He and mom were on their way to catch their cruise to Hawaii for their 50th anniversary. They’d stopped in Texas to visit friends and that’s where he died. Hard to believe it’s been that long…

We had soup for supper, and the rest is now in freezer bags for future meals. I have an appointment with my dermatologist in the morning, then I’ll bake the chocolate chip cookies - the dough is chilled and ready. I’ll also go to the convenience center tomorrow because it’ll be crazy on Saturday. I don’t want the trash cans sitting full while we’re gone.

And I’ll have a snort of (generic) Nyquil before bed tonight, hoping to crash soundly again. I’m just dragging right now. I hate being sick.

hugs

We’ve ordered carryout dinner from our favorite restaurant – a French bistro which is closing for good next month. We’d eat there two to three times a year, nearly always for special occasions, but we haven’t eaten there in-person since the Before Times.

I’m tired. I think I’ll grab my meat and go home.

Logical conclusion: do not eat granola.

{{{Moooooom}}} for your crappy day.

Irked, came home, walked Nelson, et and took a much needed nap. Yay! It’s the weekend.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

We used big sheets of tinfoil over mousetraps. The mousetraps don’t catch the cat’s feet, but they do make loud noises and cause the tinfoil to crinkle. It worked well. Also, double-sided tape won’t pull any fur out. They don’t like the sensation, but it’s not strong enough to hurt them (unless you’re using the kind that holds paintings on the walls).

Obi condolences to your wife. I hope the comfort food helps.

Moomm condolences to you on the anniversary of your dad’s death as well.

:face_with_raised_eyebrow:

Have fun, ya crazy kiddo.

obi, FCM, I feel for your losses.

flyboy, trust you’re still holding onto your meat…

unknown, George has obviously studied physics…

Seanette, sorry about the layoff news; hope things improve soon.

VanGo, glad the big jobs are done; have they paid you yet, or is it COD?

Sari, take some change with you for the air pump, if it’s like here they charge you for air.

Well, the rain waited until right at 5pm when soccer was supposed to start, then poured down rain with thunder and lightning for 50 minutes, then completely stopped and the skies were clear–but to dark to start anything. Must have ticked off the Great Weather Wizards. Still got to 78F today, but due to cool off tomorrow.

Ok, some readin’ and internettin’ and maybe some tackleball watchin’. All y’all take care.

Just got off the phone with my Former I.T. Guy and now I’m … weird, emotionally.

It was lovely hearing his voice and chatting, and it’s good to know he’s recovering from the 'Rona, but now I feel all empty inside.

I miss him, but don’t want him “back” necessarily. Not in reality. (But in $%!# hell yeah. Dude knew what he was good at doing.)

BAH! MIXED FEELINGS.

I waited until now to post because I wanted to see how my vision would be with the new contact lens. And the answer is…better! Not great–with a LOT of work and some lucky guesses, I can read the very blurry 20/50 line. I’m THRILLED, but people, I need to see better than this. Sister #1 is having a knee replacement in January and sister #2 can’t help her due to even worse knees and (probable) congestive heart failure. Sister #1 definitely needs someone who can drive down there to help her, and my guess is Sister #2 will need me, too. If determination alone could improve my vision, I’d have X-ray vision by now, though I’m not sure I want to see anyone’s undies. 20/50 is SO much better, but honestly, it’s not 20/50 or even 20/70 for driving because I can’t stop on I-5 while I guess what the signs say.

Sister #1 is also in very early rejection of the corneal transplant she got a year ago (same general condition I have). There was some confusion, and she thought she was supposed to stop using steroid drops when she wasn’t. Hopefully they’ll be able to stop the rejection, as they caught it early.

Mooooom, fingers crossed on the COVID test. Really, hope life is easier all the way around by tomorrow.

Seanette, I’m sorry about your DH’s lay-off. I hope it’s brief.

Obi, sending warm thoughts to your wife. You’re so kind to suggest comfort food and so considerate to make it happen.

Condolences on the anniversaries obi and Mooooooooom.

I hope that your hubby gets back to work soon seanette.

{{{shoe}}}

I’m glad I’m not the only one with a dirty mind…

Howdy Y’all! We got shorn and then were two retired drains on society who brunch. Since we’re all class and couth, we brunched at Waffle House. We both had pee-kahn waffles, scrambled aigs, and bacon. Needless to say we were stuffed! Thus no chikin nachos for sup. It was decided any further need to feed to day would be via grazin’. We’ll have the nachos tomorrow. It rained this afternoon and we both almost missed it altogether. OYKW noticed it when he was over by the window in the breakfast area of the kitchen. We took beerverages out to the back porch so we could watch the rain. Easily entertained are we!

MOOOOOOM and Obi sorry for your respective sad anniversaries. I am reminded that my younger brother died in January of 2002 so almost twenty years now. Wow.

Nettie sorry about DH’s layoff. Hope he gets back to irk soon and that you find a gig soon if that is what you want.

OK, I shall now see what is up on teh intartoobz.

Laterz!

What? (I’m a Turtle.)

@JaneDoe42 , The CDC has approved the Moderna booster! I’m going tomorrow. I’ll work out first. Though I don’t anticipate any side effects fro the half-dose, after what happened after full dose #2 when I foolishly decided to go for a long walk, I’m taking no chances.

Woo-hoo! Also, thanks, science!

Excuse me. Are you new here???

Just took a snort of (generic) Nyquil. Killing a few minutes till it kicks in. My temp is 98.8 - I don’t think that counts as a fever, right? I just want to sleeeeeeeeeeeep…

Nah, that’s in the “normal” range, and likely within the error range of 98.6 for your thermometer.
