Darn! I got too excited. The CDC advisory committee has recommended the CDC approve the vaccine. I think formal approval is expected tomorrow.
I’d actually prefer to stay home full-time, but that’s not currently a long-term option. We have no clue on duration. DH plans to contact PeopleReady (formerly LaborReady) to see about temp gigs.
Cooked chicken is in the fridge, separate from the broth, which needs to chill enough to have excess fat removed. Foraging seems to be the dinner plan. Neither of us has slept well lately, so we’re both pretty wrung out.
Yeah, I sent you a PM.
I hope the comfort food helped, obi. Hubs and I only have 1 parent left and we miss the others at such odd times.
I know this. We have successfully used it in the past. The older hubs gets, the more of a soft touch he becomes. All it takes is a little fur and purr to make hubs turn to mush. (I’m so not talking about my black lace kitty ears I wear for special happy fun times.)
You is a very smart lady!
I tried a new “fast” recipe for refried beans, four hours rather than over night and hours of cooking in the morning. It was OK. I over cooked the beans so they were kinda dry, but I think I’ll try them again next week.
Hubs is the primary cook, so I have him thinking about an IP. If I order one, he’ll complain about not having enough counter room. If he does it, he will already have a plan to put the crock pot and hard boiled egg maker under the counters. If/when the IP proves to be successful, the crock pot and boiled egg maker will move around for a while until they end up in my shed. I will date the box and after a year or so will offer them up for free on Nextdoor. I can do this dance in my sleep.
Stress is pretty hard on people, I honestly think that many more people die of stress than anything else, including COVID. Just the no sleep part compromises the immune system enough to open the door for more easily blamed problems.
I hope one or both of you find something that pays very well and makes you happy to get up in the morning.
this just in while I was typing: Hubs is worried that George will eat foil and get blocked. I’m not sure why he thinks that George would think that foil would be a tasty treat but that pushover thing is probably involved. I think the cookie sheets need to come out again. When George knocks one of them down while we are sleeping, hubs will jump out of his skin and maybe agree that foil isn’t such a bad idea.
I know that the cats have parties on the table and counters when we aren’t looking. We always wipe the counters etc. down before we start doing anything with food because we know that cats have been there. It just offends me when they jump up on the forbidden places when the people are home and awake. I expect them to be smart enough to figure it out, but George. Sigh. George rolls around on the table and shows his belly for rubs.
Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave. Or fill in in one of the 20 positions that we are short in.
They actually just started giving to me a while back, but they had a new cashier yesterday. Who was older than me, so I guess I should be grateful that he didn’t just tell me to get off his lawn.
And {{{{hugs}}}} over the mixed feelings.
Hope you and DH can find something quick, nettie.

Unless George is a beagle, unlikely.
My temp is 98.8 - I don’t think that counts as a fever, right?[/quote]
Depends, Do you feel the need for more cowbell?
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 66 Amurrkin out and foggy with a predicted high of 85, partly N.O.S. and maybe some rain this afternoon. Or not. TWPTB are in willy-nilly mode again. I am up stoopid early as I just could not sleep anymore. Oh well, I did pull an all nighter. Didn’t wake up durin’ the night to go pee. I would like to achieve mowage. However, with the fog now and the rain yestiddy it will be at least late mornin’ before that could happen. Other than that the usual sloth is on the agenda. Tonight’s sup will be the chikin nachos postponed from yestiddy.
MOOOOOOM 98.8 might feel a little bit like a fever to me as I tend to hover around 97, but it is generally not considered to be feverish. Hope you get the result back soonest.
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy Then, onward into the day! Rah,
Happy Firday Y’all! Today is Firday. I kept thinkin’ it was Firday all day yestiddy, but I knew better. Today is real Firday.
?? I call mine a sauce pan…
I woke at 6:30 sans drips, but as soon as I finished brushing my teeth and walking out to the living room, I was reaching for a tissue. So I took a snort of (generic) Dayquil. Hope it helps, because I have my annual “check out my skin” appt with my dermatologist. After I get back, cookies will be baked.
I was able to make a booster appt for FCD. He got the J&J and he wanted a Moderna booster. Since it’s been blessed, he’s all set up for 11:15 today. Huzzah! I’m impressed that the county health dept folks were on top if this so fast.
Weird dream last night about one of my daughter’s HS boyfriends. I ran into him and he told me that she’s still in love with him and he’ll win her back by sending her lots of photos of him from when then dated. Yeah, that’ll work!.
And so beginneth my day. Happy Firday!!
Good morning everyone.
It’s currently 52 degrees with an expected high of 56 and rain. I doubt mowage will occur, but we’ll see if the rain materializes.
I am sorry to hear about your husband’s furlough, Seanette. I hope it’s short and that both you and he find jobs that you like and can live on.
I am sorry about the sad anniversaries, too. They are tough. I have a couple coming up myself and they’re not easy days, but I mostly just feel a sort of misty sadness on those days.
I am off work today, but don’t have real plans. I’m kicking around the idea of doing some shopping, but I’m not sure I feel like it. I need to get my Jeep washed and fueled up, but it’s senseless to wash in the rain. I could just run it through a carwash, but the Jeep has weird nooks and crannies that the carwash always misses. It’s annoying. I could go to the store to get soup fixin’s. I am alternately craving split pea and navy bean soup. I would also like some butternut squash soup, but the husband isn’t a real fan. I really like it.
I hope you can get the vision thing sorted, nellie.
The husband woke me when he came to bed at 3:00. Then he tossed and turned and scratched so I gave up on the idea of sleeping in and rolled out of bed at 3:30. Le sigh. Oh well, more sanctioned “goof-off time” for me, I guess.
Morning all. Up early and need to do a little shopping today. Looks like the 7-year old boys will have 2 games tomorrow, but they’re 7-year olds so I expect they can do it. Otherwise not much planned for today. Have a Pfizer COVID booster shot scheduled for 27 October, hopefully they’ll have it in stock this time.
That’s either Too Much or Too Little information there, Unknown
But it does sound like you know your husband’s foibles (and I suspect he knows yours) and that’s one sign of a good marriage, IMHO.
Feel better soon, FCM
nellie, hope the vision gets better by January.
OK, need to find some sustenance and be about the day. All y’all have a good Firday.
Happy Firday!
Up, caffeinating, breakfasted, a load of towels ready for the dryer, a load of jeans ready to wash and fixing to do KP and housework.
Stay safe and healthy y’all!
Happy Firday!
Nice morning at the park. A little chilly when I got there, but once the sun came out it wasn’t so bad. Good group this morning.
There was one fight and I said, I don’t mean to be rude or anything, but I am so happy it wasn’t Echo.
My son enjoyed his barbeque dinner. Everybody got a back-pack with a comforter inside. He didn’t win any of the prizes, but he doesn’t want anything anyway.
I forgot to take change for air, but there was no air pump anyway. Kind of surprising, the gas station is pretty big, with gas for cars and smaller trucks on one side, and gas for the big rigs on the other. They also serve food, and from what I hear, it’s really good food.
It’s always busy there, and you’d think of all places they would have air.
sari - There are some tire places that will check and fill your tires for free - might be worth looking into.
Back from the dermatologist - I’m all good, so yay! We’re about to leave for FCD’s booster, then over to Daughter’s to finish with the crib. Then lunch. This retired life is busy!!!
WOOHOO!!! COVID test came back negative!! < insert happy dance here >
That’s terrific news, FCM!
The kitchen is cleaned and I’m debating doing an old-fashioned floor scrubbing with a brush, toothbrush, and everything. Really, there is no helping this crappy floor. It just needs replacing, sadly, and while I want to do it, I want to replace ALL the flooring and that wouldn’t be cheap. I HATE carpeting and other than the bathrooms, laundry room, entryway, and kitchen/dining area, it’s everywhere. It retains dirt, smells, dander, blech. The carpeting in my house is builder grade so it’s the worst. It’s also almost 20 years old so it REALLY is gross. I steam clean them every few months, but after a while, there is just no help for them.
Congrats on the negative test, FCM!
And yay for boosters!
And boo for moving granola. That’s just…wrong. Really, really wrong.
It’s freezing in here today. I’ve got fuzzy socks on, long pants, a sweatshirt and shirt. I’m seriously considering throwing on the fingerless mitts I made earlier this year to boot. I shoulda waddled already but I had a three hour call this morning.
I had to swipe my son’s gaming headset this morning because the mic on my earbuds gave out with a static-y gasp. I have a new appreciation for gaming headsets because the noise cancelling was excellent, but heaven forbid I ever have to be on camera. Eh, oh well. It’s Friday and I may - just maybe - get to sleep until 7 tomorrow, which would be delightful. Unlikely, but delightful nonetheless.
Yesterday I slept so hard I wound up sleeping on my hand and couldn’t feel it when I woke up. I kept slapping around looking for my alarm and accidentally stabbed myself a couple of times with my other hand’s fingernails.
There we go - my stream of consciousness for now.
I heaved. I sorted. I ran things around. Last night I was having some ice cream, and Alex Catt helped herself while I as holding the bowl. And this morning, I was having a slice of cheese(pepper jack), and she had to have some. When did my cat turn into a dairy slut?
I feel you. I feel better when I see somebody other than Gordie act batshit insane.
Yay FCM! Although it’s weird that we’ve reached the point where we celebrate merely haiving ordinary crud.
I do hard-boiled in the Instant Pot these days. Seems to get better results than stovetop.
Rainy/gloomy here. Not much planned right now. Should be getting that air fryer IP lid today.
I rarely do boiled eggs.
Growing up, dad had a small, cheap (thin) aluminum (?) saucepan similar to these:
He used that to boil eggs. I still have it in the cupboard. When we had the built-onto-the-house travel trailer demolished, an identical pan was found in it. A workman put it in a tree. Years later I found it and pulled it down. There was a dent in the bottom, but it was easy to hammer out.
On the rare occasion I do boil eggs, that’s the pan I use.
Lunch has been prepared and consumed, candy shopping has been done, and soccer stuff attended too, so things are moving along. 61F now and only getting to 68F for the high, so may need to click on the heat, at least for a little while.
flyboy, my parents had a couple pans like that, think we used them for Campbells’ soup heatup, they were pretty much indestructible.
Yeah for the negative test, FCM. May your cold clear up before travel commences.
Ok, need to start the dishwasher and do some things and maybe some other things, so all y’all be well.
Shhhhhh. You might say the quiet part out loud.
Me too. I’m so happy it’s Friday. I’m not sure why, since I still have to get up early to give the dog his pill, but I’m still happy about it. I’ve been trained by decades of working I guess.
Moommm happy it’s not COVID!
I remember when she wasn’t your catt. I’m glad she’s grown on you.
My mom cooked with some old Revere ware pans. I still have a few that were actually my grandmother’s. They hold up pretty well. I don’t use the sauce pan much any more, but I still use the giant pasta pan.
I’m watching my parents pets while they’re gone overnight. They had a college reunion, so they spent the night on the other side of the Bay. I’m glad they’re staying busy and involved.
'Beamer stayed home today. I’m hoping his noggin will be all healed up by Monday. In other news, it’s actually raining here. Woo-hoo! I’m also continuing my search for good peanuts in the shell. Everything I’ve tried so far has been stale.
