Johnny, in spite of my age I sometimes wish for heavy wet snow. I love building snow men. Or usually snow goons. Once I built a snow Dalek, and another time a guy sunning himself on a lawn chair. I saw cars slow down in the street for that onel
Afternoon all. Library card is good for another three years, cash for March is in my pocket, and I shoved some weights around and biked 9.25 miles in 45 minutes (at least that is what the digital things on the bike said). So nappage is a definite possibility.
Still only 48F here, may not make it to the 60’s as promised, we’ll see. So no snow here, wet or fluffy.
Nice cat pictures, even if I’m a dog person.
Nut, I always believed the last-minute essay was the best…at least it worked for me in my college years…
FCM, sometimes being the ‘mean ol’gramma’ is part of the job description. Take care.

boo fae, hoping Shadow’s appetite and interest in life in general continues to improve.
Actually, floofy-tail is a better description than floof-tail IMHO.
OK, have snacked and probably put the calories I burned right back on. So be it, I’m doing it more for overall conditioning rather than the Charles Atlas body makeover.
All y’all take care.
Day’s off to a grumpy start. Slept badly, Instacart screwed up (I did get the one item of two that that store actually had, but it arrived starting to thaw and at next-door neighbor’s door. One of very few times I’ve reduced the tip and given a 1-star rating), and of course I’m worrying about the Ukraine invasion. Afraid to ask what Czar Dobby is going to do next.
One plus: Jack in the Box has fish sandwiches as of today. Now if they also had a Shamrock Shake equivalent…
$50 to refuel the Jeep this morning. That’s one trip to the office and back. Depending on the number of weeks in a month, that would be $400 or $500 per month to come to the office twice a week. And that’s $3.46/gallon gas from the reservation. It’s only going to cost more, now that there’s a war on.
I asked El Jefe if I can telecommute until I get the car situation sorted. He said I could; and if I wanted to make it longer-term we could talk about it later.
For a “drain on society”, you seem to be doing a lot to keep society going. I’m sure it’s highly appreciated at the church.
Oopsie, I also had no idea. Glad it went so well and good luck on the PMI training.
“Tail with a cat attached” describes GG quite well. Such a cutie, but definitely seems to have a “space to rent” sign on his forehead.
I think Shadow’s eating better than me - I hope he likes it.
Sounds promising. That long commute is for the birds. I’m all for having some contact with coworkers, but spending so much time and money on commuting would drive me batty.
My parents’ neighbor put their house on the market two weeks ago. It sold in 18 hours, at more than 100,000 above asking price, to a couple who had lost out on 50 houses. The housing market in the greater Seattle area is nuts.
The neighbors are already gone to the other side of the country, but I’m not sure if the new ones have moved in already. I know my parents were really sad to see them go, and are hoping that they will get along with the new neighbors.
Bought a pommegranate today, but it was fuzzy inside. I guess I need to learn better how to choose a good pommegranate if I don’t want to waste money.
Earlier I was reading a bit of the news and then some local fighter jets flew overhead. Rather disturbing, even though I know those jets are just doing their normal thing. (Burning lots of fuel, aka taxpayer money.)
Poured myself some Don Julio Reposado last night, but decided I couldn’t finish it, so I’m finishing it tonight. I am definitely a lightweight / cheap date.
Got the answer from the accountants that I submitted all the correct paperwork, so now I just have to wait. Hopefully the Swiss tax accountant is able to get things done a bit faster than last year.
Oh, and this morning was was the beginning of Fasnacht, with the big bang at 5 am. Since I went to bed around midnight, I’m already starting to fade, so I think I’ll go warm up a spot on the couch.
It’s dreary, wet, and cold (34°F) outside, but at least work is quiet again today. I’m taking advantage of this sure-to-be-temporary lull while I can.
I went to the dentist this morning for my 6-month cleaning/checkup, and the hygienist only had to use the sonic screwdriver on one stubborn spot. Woo hoo! When she updated my records it was nice to watch her delete all of the meds I no longer take, and fun to watch her have to enter all of the supplements I’m on now. Heh. Most importantly, though, the dentist was happy. One of my lower molars will require a crown at some point, but for now we’re still just keeping an eye on it. Yay for (mostly) healthy teeth!
nelliebly, The_Stainless_Steel_Rat, purplehorseshoe, dogbutler, FairyChatMom, swampbear, and scareyfaerie: Aww, shucks, y’all!
Even though it’s been a good/quiet week, I can’t wait for the weekend. I think it’s because I didn’t get much actual downtime last weekend, with the jazz festival, and I’m starting to feel the need for a hermit-like break (just me and the doggy for a couple of days). I’m signed up for a 2-hour Zoom workshop on Saturday afternoon – basic jazz piano skills – and I’ll have a little homework to do for this exam prep course, but otherwise I have no weekend plans. Which is more than fine with me. I’m generally an extravert and I enjoy being around people, but I think the last two years have affected my tolerance for socializing.
I always love seeing pictures of people from here: I frequently have the same “no idea what I thought you’d look like, but that ain’t it!” reaction.
*giggles*
Me, too! But in my case, I knew it was coming: I have a followup with the surgeon’s office a week from today, which means it’s time for more bloodwork. I made the lab appointment yesterday. I’ve been back on one of my previous diabetes meds for 1.5 months (since my last labs, which were for my primary care doc), and I’m hoping next week’s blood glucose numbers will show improvement…
LOL! Very nicely phrased.

Swampy I’s confused. I thought you were done having church jobbies for a bit?
Metal Mouse I’m impressed! You’ve stuck to the gym routine. It can be hard to start that.
VanGo sending hugs about Cin.
: skritches : to Alex Catt!
Nut I’d tell you to do the thing, but I dontwanna do things either, so have at not doing the thing!
Dice The festival looks like fun.
My husband continues his plans for world domination AKA acquiring another house through taking equity out of this one. I am stressed. So, so stressed. Even typing about this makes me more stressed. Oh well.
It’s freezing again today. Well, not anymore. It was in the 20’s again overnight. We’ve gotten to 50! We’ll get back up to daytime highs in the low 70s by early next week, and then who knows. Weather is willy nilly these days.
Happy Thursday!
You GUYS my InCrPoo is back. Cute as ever.
@$$hole manager brought donuts, so SOMEbody is bribing us.
The IMGR title worked out to “flood tail.”
OOpsie, re: your selfie, Hubba hubba!
Mom, we all just want to be held once in awhile.
Had to drive up to St. Vincent’s Hospital this morning for a stress test. (about 45 min.) Got snowed on a bit on the way but truck’s thermometer said it was 34 so it wasn’t sticking. Thought about stopping at Jack inna box on the way back to see about their fish sammich, but couldn’t remember where it was.
I have the memory of a dyslexic goldfish. Been that way forever. Wifey, on the other hand, used to have a memory like an elephant. She never forgot anything. Notice I said “used to have”. Whenever I had important papers I wanted to find again, I would put them in a file folder and put them in the file cabinet. She would just put them somewhere and depend on remembering where she put them. Before she left today she asked me to find the papers from when we bought the truck. Now, if I took care of them, they’re in the bankers box full of file folders in the basement of the new house waiting for the file cabinet to make the trip over there. And I promptly forgot about them. If she took care of them, they could be any-damn-where.
I think I’m doomed to failure. Again.
We had a surprise birthday lunch for a cow-orker. Unfortunately, she wasn’t there. She was at an offsite meeting, and they all decided to go out for burgers when the meeting was over. I picked up some cilantro/lime shrimp and some Norwegian smoked salmon from Costco. I put the shrimp in a glass bowl, and I plated the salmon. About half of the salmon was consumed, but there were raves about the shrimp. So I’m leaving them here for the others to eat.
As the festivities (read: wolfing of food) was about to begin, El Jefe slipped a check into my pocket. The company is covering my insurance deductible. I’m grateful.
Birthday Girl got in around 13:00, and she was surprised. Even though she’d eaten with the Group, she ate some things people made or brought in. We did wait for her before getting into the giant tres leches cake (of which I had none, because… carbs) with her name misspelled on it. I gather it was quite tasty.
So yesterday it was 80, tomorrow it will be 75, it was 55 when I went to work at 0300, and that was today’s high. Of course I have turned the heat on.
She. And I think Alex may be a five toed sloth, not a cat.
Wanted a cpl tacos to go, for my dinner after my shift.
Y’all, InCrPoo made them, and went to the trouble of grilling the onions and both sides of the tortillas for me, and used the “good” cheese. (Shredded, not the crappy sliced stuff.)
When I thanked him (profusely) I could tell he was proud of making them “right.” I don’t think it was a Me Thing; I think he was just getting back into the swing of things at work, and was pleased at doing the best he could.
… which is part of why I gush over him sometimes.
Ugh. Y’all can just ignore me.
I’m sorry, but I’m laughing my tushie off at this.
Everybody got a laugh out of it, especially Birthday Girl. People have gotten her name wrong before. Now everyone’s calling her by the wrong name.
I told our Admin that she should tell her it’s a used cake.
Taking a break from the Ukraine news. Have heard from both of my friends. One is still in Kyiv and is the one I’m worried about. The other (who’s American but has a Ukrainian wife) got his family out. The vast majority of Ukrainians hate Putin with a deep passion. This invasion is not something they haven’t been worrying about for years. I vacillate between feeling heartsick and just plain angry.
After getting lost in the corn maze that is the communications system at the ortho clinic, i was finally able to speak with the scheduler, the one who did NOT call yesterday, as my surgeon promised. The earliest appointment is in one week. I was hoping for sooner, but I’ll take what I can get. I have to have a driver and it can’t be Uber. I read that they give you IV sedation, so I guess that’s why. Anyway, I’ll see if a friend can drive me.
I did laundry and took a shower, with lie-downs in between. The dog downstairs has been crying all day again, so I called the office. I don’t know if his people are trying anything or are just shrugging it off. As I type this, he’s stopped crying and is barking anxiously nonstop. Poor little critter. You’d think he’d get hoarse.
Bumba, hope you find the truck papers.
shoe, glad InCrPoo is back. Hope you didn’t get drool on your shoes. And Nikki is adorbs–from what I can see of her sweet little face.
nut, maybe if you leave the paper out, the elves will come and write the essay for you. Not that they ever did for me, but you may be on better terms.
oopsie, congrats on the good dental visit. It’s a great feeling, isn’t it? Have fun with the Zoom workshop.
BooFae, fingers continue to be crossed for Shadow.
Alexx looks so sweet, doggio! If the doghouse doesn’t pan out, maybe build a cathouse. I understand those can be profitable.

Yeah, that nonsense is just a steaming pile of { various expletives deleted } and I feel so bad for all the civilians caught in the way of what amounts to - I’m ever so sorry - a pissing contest.
I hope your friend in Kyiv is hunkered down somewhere relatively safe.

Hope you didn’t get drool on your shoes.
Jeebus, I was gushing over him all day. If he (or anyone else I work with, who might whap him with a clue-by-four) hasn’t picked up by now, then, well, I just don’t know what to say.
And a good late afternoon to all. Somewhat to my surprise, no nappage occured, so watched several hours of soccer (European) and checked the weather reports (did get to 64F today, but rain around 9pm is 90% assured according to the Weather Wizards. Managed to avoid the talking heads, will check in to several sites to catch up with the Ukraine news.
nellie, really hoping your friend will be alright. One thing about war throughout the millennia of human civilization is that civilians often take the worst of it.
flyboy, if they eat enough cake, the name won’t be there to mis-remenber…
Bumba, good luck in finding the papers; I’m like you, have four file cabinets filled with records (probably father back than really needed, but ya never know…) and appropriately marked.
Sunny, I hope husband-unit knows his way around finances and property, for your sake and his.
Dicey, doubt I’d do as well as their neighbor’s did, but I wonder sometimes what I could get for my place. If the new neighbors were that desperate for a home, I’m sure they’ll treat it well.
OK, the week’s Cheeseburger is happily digesting away, and there are things to be done (which I probably won’t be doing). All y’all take care.
Metal Mouse you should check Zillow or Redfin sometime to see what your house is worth (approximately). The values are just shocking right now. Also, Happy Doper-versary!
{{{VanGo}}} Sometimes it takes a long time to stop observing the little rituals of life with someone. When I had to rehome a couple of cats years ago, it took about a year for me to stop turning around to say bye bye babies before I left the house.
You clean up pretty well oopsie!
That’s hilarious about the cake flyboy!
Alex is a pretty girl doggio.
Irked all two years that was today. Yay for the weekend! Came home, et and promptly took an unplanned nap. Now, I’ll mess around in the studio a bit and surf.
Stay safe and healthy y’all!
