Well, I , er, was born in Delaware. Went to school there (Lombardi and then A.I. DuPont), then Jr High School (Springer) and graduated from Brandywine H.S. My high school sweetheart still lives there. My Dad had a long and sucessful career with the DuPont Co.
The Brandywine River valley is beautiful. Nice beaches. No sales tax.
'Ullo, all. I am in prep hell in that I am so hungry I could die and have a hunger headache to prove it. I have not entered into The Purge, that comes in just a few minutes (after I pick up #2 son from band practice). Then I will be in yet a lower level of bowel prep hell, but I’ll keep that to myself. Chicken broth and fruit juice suck as diet offerings.
I’ve been keeping busy so as to distract meself from the kitchen (and all the cookies and the leftover roast chicken from last night). I have rehung most of the pics in the FR, cleaned the glass table tops in there, shampooed the carpet and reorganized the Gameboy games and the DVDs. I also did laundry and ran some errands. This is horrible. It’s like I have a list of things to get done and I did them all. And I wrapped the kids’ presents.
KT made sweet potato chowder for dinner last night. Have I mentioned how lucky I am to have a husband who cooks? I made whole wheat bread to go with it. There’s nothing like the smell of baking bread in the house to make you hungry. I loooooooove fresh bread.
So tonight I think I’m going to be lazy and make frozen pizza for dinner.
Hey, if you finish up your list, you can come work on mine, Rigs. I’ve got a nice long list of stuff to do. Much of which I forgot to do today, like return the ridiculously expensive USB cable to Office Depot since Papa Tigs ordered me one from CablesToGo.com. In blue. I like blue. Not to mention it cost a third as much as the one that Office Depot [del]rips people off with[/del]sells to people.
Today has been supremely unexciting. Working some, knitting a bit on breaks, taking the pups out for a drive to pick up a new CPAP mask for Papa Tigs. Thrillsville.
Oh, one piece of sad news – one of Papa Tigs’ employees had a brain aneurysm that blew a few months ago, and she died on Thanksgiving. She’d never really recovered at all; she was home from the hospital, quite helpless, and her poor sister was trying to take care of her and their elderly dad, who has to have dialysis every other day and is in really bad health. So in many ways it was a blessing, but it’s still very sad. She was younger than me, for heaven’s sake.
So sorry about PapaTigs co-worker BioTigs. It’s sad to see somebody go like that.
Howdy Mindude! Come back and stick around some more.
SmartiePants one of my favorites is “tighter than a Baptist minister’s wife’s girdle at an all you can eat pancake breakfast”.
Howdy Y’all! Home from another excitatin’ day of mobile phones. This week I start doin’ more QA stuff, as in, hands on learnin’. I did some listenin’ ‘in with another QA person this mornin’ and talked about monitoring reports and such, then spent the afternoon on the phones cause it’s Monday and for some reason yet known to most of the general world, Monday is the day people like to call about their bills. I mean, that happens every day but Monday’s calls are far and away always bill related.
I’m makin’ potato and ham soup. Well, the slow cooker is makin’ it. That’ll be dindin for a couple nights this week and will be a good one cause we’s havin’ us a cold spell 'round these parts.
Nava if you think that pun was bad…
Alabama Texas. I don’t know why but Alaska. It was the cause of much Missouri.
I’ve been thru Delaware, and I think as a kid, we went to Rehoboth to swim. A couple of months ago when I was looking for a weekend getaway with my sweetie, I considered several places along the Delaware beaches. But life got in the way and we haven’t made it yet.
We did sail halfway across the C&D canal a few years back. That was pretty cool. We went as far as a bridge - don’t recall which one and I’m too lazy to dig out a map.
Inlaws should be hitting their driveway any time now. I’m pretty sure that as they drove off this morning, Taz was in the window flipping off the dog-in-law. He’s all relaxed and back to his usual self. We’ve feasted again on leftovers, but I had to toss a lot, too. The last half a punkin pie got moldy, as did the cobbler I made on Tuesday and the rolls I bought. I hate having to throw food away. Oh well.
Welcome to all the new Mumpers! Stick around - we’re a fun thread!
And, as promised in the last MMP, the link to the pic of me at 21… I was cute!
Computer sounds like it wants to die, so I’ll type fast.
I don’t think I’ve been to Delaware (but I’ve been near the Delaware Gap). Brother’s MIL is from Delaware. Sounds a lot like the nice parts of NJ (which, as far as I can tell is most of the state).
Sorry about Papa Tigs’s coworker.
Welcome back, Mork! Nice to see you again. Haze is back from her break, but** LiLi** is mostly on break right now. doggio’s Nelly has been missing for several weeks. Idaho has no snow right now. Smarty’s SO got a job. There’s more, but I forget.
Tired. Need to finish shredding leftover turkey and throwing it in the freezer. Need to add some turkey leftover recipes to the blog (I’ve been meaning to do that since last week).
Back later, if the computer lives.
ETA: Is it just me or does your daughter look a whole like you did at that age, FCM? Great picture!
I’ve been through Delaware a few times. Did you know Delaware has Information Police? Right at the south end of the DelMemBridge. Cracks me up everytime I see the sign.
Once I drove all the way down Delaware and crossed to Virginia on the bridge-tunnel-causeway combo thingy - NEVER AGAIN.
I lived in Baltimore for over 7 years, and one of the things always on my “To-Do” list was to drive down the Eastern Shore and cross the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel. I never ended up doing it, much to my regret. It looks awesome.
I’m with you, Rosie. We did that a couple years ago, and not only was it not particularly cool while we were going across, but it was seriously claustrophobia-inducing. Granted, I’ve been a bit prone to claustrophobia ever since Northridge (did you know that one side effect of a major earthquake is claustrophobia? It happened to nearly everyone I knew, so it’s not just me being weird!), but even so, it was just NOT FUN.
Even Papa Tigs, who’s never suffered from claustrophobia in his life, thought it was a big letdown. So there!
And yes, I meant 301, Mooom. Just pick on me getting my numbers turned around, see if I care. I knew it had a 3, a 1, and a 0 in it, so I was close enough for gummint work!
Welcome back to the absent ones – I just recently came back from a bit of a break myself. This place gets you; it’s impossible to stay away, I swear. I guess it’s just because here in the MMP, dammit, everybody’s nice!
Not much else going on. Life is exciting. Not.
A minor first I didn’t need – I got pulled over for speeding. I was doing all of 41 in a 35. She let me off with a verbal warning. Gaaaaaaah! My perfect record nearly gone! The only other time I’ve been pulled over was to be told I had a taillight out. At least she let me off. A coworker of mine got a ticket on her way in and I figured I was going to get one for bragging to her about having never gotten one once those lights started up!
For those who have been thinking SNOW for me, thank you! It appears to be working. I’ll know for sure in the morning, but it’s supposed to snow a bit tonight and tomorrow. I’m hoping it snows more than they say it will, but at this point, I’ll take anything. Especially since I don’t have to work tomorrow. Yay!
Well, of course it’s going to snow – I told you this morning I’d take care of it, didn’t I? I mean, what am I good for, chopped liver?
I haven’t told the MMP – Papa Tigs got a speeding ticket a couple weeks ago. For going 70 on the Beltway. Most of the time, if you go under 80 on the Beltway (unless it’s gridlocked, of course), you’ll have people running up your ass! I have been mocking him ever since. I’m a lovely person.
And here are a few more to supplement Mama T’s work:
::Snow in Idaho for snowbunny:: ::Snow in Idaho for snowbunny:: ::Snow in Idaho for snowbunny:: ::Snow in Idaho for snowbunny:: ::Snow in Idaho for snowbunny:: ::Snow in Idaho for snowbunny:: ::Snow in Idaho for snowbunny:: ::Snow in Idaho for snowbunny:: ::Snow in Idaho for snowbunny:: ::Snow in Idaho for snowbunny:: ::Snow in Idaho for snowbunny::
Glad you didn’t get a ticket. I’ve only been pulled over once and, unfortunately, got a ticket because I was doing over 40 in a 25 mph zone (it goes from 45 to 25 and I was distracted…grrrrr).
I’ve written a basic Christmas letter. I have quite a few friends that I’ve been bad about communicating with and they’re going to get a personalized version of it.
But I’m tired now and going to crawl into bed and maybe watch a movie or read for a while (still deciding).
Evening all. Sorry to hear about PapaTigs co-worker.
Great pic with the star, FCM; you do look quite cute, btw.
I neglected to mention in the OP that my HS football team (Milford Bucs, btw) won the State Division II championship on Friday night!!! What’s so funny is that during my time there, the football team couldn’t have won the Toilet Bowl! Congrats to the team, though–wtg!
University of Delaware has changed so much since I went there, I probably wouldn’t recognize very much on campus; they’re really touting Biden on their website now though.
I’m already contemplating my summer trip to the UK next year. I really don’t savor the idea of going in the middle of the summer (peak season, lots of tourists) but Capt Cheekbones is getting married in August so there’s not much I can do about it. Anyway I’m very excited to see him and Scottish Darling again. I did find these interesting wildlife walking tours of the Shetland Islands (http://www.shetlandwildlife.co.uk/home_swh.htm) that sound like fuuuuuuuuuuuun - eight months away and already I’m psyched!
Home, tired, beer. More Blerg and work tomorrow. Still no Nelly. There are about 600 lose pregnant looking elderly beagle roaming the Triangle, though.
snowbunny, I got a ticket for 69 in a 55(minor points) when I was 18. I was actually doing 75(major points), so I just said, “Yes officer”, and took it.
FCM, you still got it. How ya doin’?
Mork!!!
Sorry about PapaTigs’ coworker.
TMI, to make up for a beebs-less MMP:
I ate something last week that cut my anus coming out:eek:, and it bled a little. Rectum? Damn near killed em!
