The election is over, so drop it!

Yeah! We’ve stopped being upset and emotional over the carnage of the Civil War and here we are again on the brink of –

Oh, wait.

There is a huge gulf between “forgetting” history and refusing to even admit that it is history. There is a huge difference between “learning” from history and rehashing a loss for no practical purpose whatsoever.

Gore apologists are to politics as the Sons of the Confederacy are to history.

Hmmm. Let’s see. I remember a little bit of history:

1972: Criminal attempt at theft of an already bagged election. Cover up. President resigns in face of impeachment.

1986: Criminal violation of a specific act of Congress. Cover up. President lies, gets away with it. Oliver North himself reveals, “Reagan knew everything.”

2000: Confused election. New, minority, mandateless President who ran on a platform of consensus and inclusiveness attempts to prosecute the most right-wing agenda in twenty years. Within six months, has already been warned about packing the Departments with unconfirmed “temporary” appointees, privately consulting with oil executives on public energy policy, setting up a departing Justice Department patsy to cancel investigation into said allegations, and refusing to release records on the grounds that they are “confidential” and not to be seen by the American public.

Oh, yeah.

1992-2001: Nine years of scrutiny from the campaign trail to retirement by thousands of investigators searching for evidence of favoritism, real estate scheming, stolen furniture, and murder reveals a single criminal act. A lie to a perpetually standing grand jury, about a blow job, which is bifurcated into perjury and obstruction of justice. President is impeached, and not removed.

Somewhere in Harlem, someone is lighting up a cigar right now and saying, "so what?"

SOFA, I for one can say with perfect seriousness that I am in awe of how skillfully you paint legal policy decisions as so much more reprehensible than perjury and obstruction of justice. I mean, I don’t agree, but still – admirably done.

Sofa King:

That he is, that he is…

Well, happens from time to time, I suppose.

DPWhite spake thusly:

Just a question–which legally binding treaties has Bush torn up?

Kyoto? Well, no–it was never approved by the Senate and never was going to be.

International Criminal Court? Well, no–it was never approved by the Senate and was never going to be.

ABM Treaty? Well, no–we’re still in it, but we may withdraw according to provisions in the treaty itself.

What other treaties has he “torn up”?

The 1972 Biological Weapons Convention? Well, no–it was enforcement procedures that were rejected (with the unstated support of a number of other countries), not the treaty itself.

What else could you be referring to?

The UN Conference to limit small arms? Doesn’t remotely qualify as a “legally binding treaty.”

So where’s the half-dozen legally binding treaties?

And is it too much to ask for a cite that he has said “it would be swell to be a dictator”?

Well, gee–I guess there was no substance in the Pit after all.

Thank you, Jodi. Thank you very much.

Actually, I was shaking the Bush rattles because what he’s been doing is exactly the sort of thing his predecessor did, only nobody’s screaming for this guy’s blood yet. We’ll see how he handles it when something gets pinned on him–I give it six to nine months. You just can’t put a campaign machine into office and not expect someone to screw up. Bush himself seems honest enough–to be a President.

The point, if I had one, is that all Americans should be keeping a close eye on what our leaders are and have been doing. If the contested election keeps peoples’ eyes on the ball, then I’m all for it. Sweeping this mess under the rug will not fix the problem. And there is a problem.

Someday, perhaps, more than a few people will say, “I’m tired of bitching about this… What are we doing to make sure this sort of bullshit never happens again?” Until then, I say let 'em keep bitching.

Oops.

Aside from the perjury and obstruction of justice, that is.

Tedious as this past election was, it was worth it to see Alan Dershowitz working himself into a frothy tantrum every night. He’s aged about 15 years in the past few months. Can he make it the entire 4 years without imploding? We’ll shall see.

One quick question: How many anti-Clinton threads have been started in the past two years?

Seems that the Republicans have already shut the fuck up about Clinton… now he’s the Infotainment Sector’s bitch. The jokes about Hillary, his “appearances” on Conan O’Brien… you don’t hear about Clinton from the Republicans anymore, you hear about him because the media LOVED the crazy SOB. They LOVEd being able to satirize him. He provided enough raw material for comedic sketches to last another decade.

So don’t tell Republicans to shut the fuck up about Clinton. Tell Jay Leno. Tell Bill Maher.

Cause he [Clinton]loves the booty.[/Clinton]

Dershowitz is rather odious, but it was pretty cool to see Maxine Waters come out in favor of States Rights…

Congratulations, Michael Ellis. You’ve successfully irritated many others as well, which was no doubt your intent when you started this tirade.

Then why not simply make a post stating your opinion on the subject? If you present it in a fairly well reasoned and literate manner, no doubt you will get responses to it. Or were you perhaps afraid that nobody would pay attention to you?

It looks to me that you singled out someone and chose to publicly ridicule their choice of nick (including cross-posting this thread in IMHO,which is how I saw it) just so you could get additional attention from posters who don’t usually frequent the Pit. I won’t even bother to comment on what I think of that ploy.

I’m with LaurAnge. Lighten up. Learn some tolerance while you’re at it, too.

You are a fascist, whether I talk about it or not. I choose to talk about it. I dare. What are you going to do about it? It’s not like I’m hiding behind a fake name. (Nor am I accusing you of doing that.)

Ursurpation is the stealing of a power that belongs to another. The people have the right to elect their leaders, not judges. When people are thrown off voter rolls based on false charges of felony, that is ursurpation.

I can see you, and so can Jesus.

Yes, I will concede that W is not physically and personally tearing up the paper treaties are written on. This is called a metaphor. Another metaphor would be scraping. Ignoring, etc.

The Administration has not “withdrawn” from any treaties according to their terms, yet currently has taken steps that break all of the above listed treaties.

He is an illiterate, drunken and lawless jerk.

I’m as far from a fascist as you could get, in fact, I probably have more hate for real
dictators and real fascists than you have for anyone even remotely to the right of Ted Kennedy.

Mr. White, you’re just making an ass out of yourself. All of what I’ve just said has probably just gone in one of your ears and out the other. So I’ll just stand back and let you drown in your own frothing idiocy.

According to Jake Tapper’s Down and Dirty: The Plot to Steal the Presidency, which is hardly a ringing endorsement of Bush, some private enterprise group of numbskulls fucked up the lists of registered voters.

I can’t give you an exact cite because my father in Point Magu appropriated my copy earlier this week, and my pockets aren’t deep enough to allow me to buy another just to debate with a raving hyper-douchebag like yourself.

Don’t bring him into this, he’s got enough problems without having to listen to a deranged, self-righteous, shitball of an excuse for a rational, sentient creature like yourself.

Fascist. Does your mother know what a potty mouth you have? You do appear to have a lot of hate. Are you proud of that? I haven’t heard anything you’ve said, you’ve written it. And just because you have written it doesn’t mean that people will agree with you. For example, you rant about how you want your political enemies to shut up and stop disagreeing with you. Is there something that is not fascist about that? Anything. Then you go on to call me a bunch of filthy names. Just like fascist propaganda. Then you complain about your daddy taking some book. What are you, 15, 16 years old? That is so young to be a fascist.

As for “I can see you, and so can Jesus”, that is the punch line of a long parrot joke. Burglar breaks in, parrot says: “I can see you, and so can Jesus. Jesus is the Rottweiler.” Means you will one day get your comeuppence. Mussolini got his.

Asshole.

Does your mother know what an SOB she’s raised?

Only for people who compare me to Hitler and his ilk.

I don’t want you to agree with me, because I couldn’t stand having a moron like yourself sharing my viewpoint on anything!!

**

Quite frankly, yes there is. I was telling them to move on with their lives and start working on winning the next one.

I’m 18, starting college next month. Dipshit.

I did not compare you to Hitler, I compared you to Mussolini. Hitler was a Nazi, Mussolini was a fascist. They are different. You will learn the difference at college. If you want to surprise your political science professor, get Goering’s description of a Nazi from the Nuremburg trials.

Oh, so I’m not a Hitler, I’m a Mussolini? Thanks. No really, thanks, thanks for comparing me to a complete asshole who deserved what he got at Lake Como.

I know the difference you scumbag, but I do not function well when I’m being viciously slandered by a two-bit SOB like yourself.

Do you like picking on people? You’re no better than a common schoolyard bully trying to get a puny kid to fight back so he gets in trouble with the teachers.
