The Fog of War MMP

mmmmmmmmm - thank you for your concern; the thing about those side effects disclaimers (and I’ve asked all my doctors about them) is that if even one person during the study develops a particular symptom, the drug manufacturer is obligated to report said symptom, even if it later turns out to have been unrelated to the drug itself.
Yes - the list of side effects is often scary, and seem worse than the benefits claimed, but that’s why there are “variations on a theme”; one chemical recipe may be innocuous to Jane while make Jim miserable, and vice versa.

It’s Make Homemade Sauce Day! That falls on the same day as Realize You Have 27 Romas Day. Hopefully tonight I’ll get Irish Brother over here so we can go shindiggin’ on the green. Hang on, let me see if I can get him to answer the phone.

And it goes straight to voicemail. I’m very tempted to leave him one saying “A bitch needs to answer a phone!” :smack:

Oh well, Culinary Boy and I will go down after we have AwesomeSauce Spaghetti.

Am having an exciting Saturday afternoon (it’s very hot out, so I’m enjoying the great indoors). I’m restoring my HP laptop to factory settings to see if I can persuade it to connect to the internet. It’s only 3 years old, but has really been quite crappy. The iBook is almost 6 years old and only just recently started showing signs of age.

Also, I roasted some eggplant and zucchini. I’m going to eat it cold with a little bit of vinaigrette. Am watching tennis, kinda, as well. Although I may have to turn it off as the person who is playing against Serena Williams sound kinda like a deranged bird of some sort. Am about to start laundry, too, so I’m being fairly productive.

Happy Saturday, all.

Hugs.

WHEW! We’ve got the tank up and running, and the filter has cycled enough to get the water fairly clear. It should be crystal tomorrow.

We had to order a new sterilizer - the transformer on the old one was dead. Swell. At least we get free shipping…

Bad Chinese for lunch is still sitting on my stomach unpleasantly, so no supper tonight. I may have some cherries later. For now, I’m going to assume the knit position.

Pedicure was fantastic. I have found my new place here in OKC. I just need to find somewhere I trust to cut my hair now and I am sorted for girliness. WTF moment of the day for me was the woman who was sat next to me was asking for OU colours on her left foot and OSU colours on her right foot and the nail lady didn’t bat an eye and even pointed out they had the correct colour matches. Apparently I am in a college football town

Ran by the grocery sto’ and picked up a bunch of fresh veggies and a huuuuuuge water melon for $1. Supper is tilapia and giant shrimp tacos with all the fixins and mr ems is working on a black bean and roasted corn salsa to go on the side. Yum!

mmmmmms I’s stuffded but your dindin sounds teh YUM!!!

A good time was had by all. All have gone home. I love ‘em all but… YAAAAAAAAY they went home! Dishwasher is loaded and ummmmm… dishwashin’ away. OYKW is laid up on the bed with the teevee on watchin’ BritComs. I shall join him shortly cause I’s tahrd!

Nitey Nite Y’all!

Indeed, your din-din sounds lovely, mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

My roasted veggies turned out yummy. I made eggplant and zucchini. Salted them and added a bit of olive oil. Baked at 375 for about an hour. Turned them over about 10 minutes before they were done. Eggplant was done sooner than zucchini, so I’ll roast them in separate pans in the future. There are more veggies to be roasted tomorrow or Monday. I’ll be taking them in as part of my lunch this week.

Laptop is just about set up now. Anti-virus and anti-spyware stuff is running. Ads and flash are under control. Sounds are turned off. I’ve procured a laptop cooler (plugs into the USB) since the fan was running a lot. It already seems to have helped. I’m hoping this laptop will last until I have enough saved up to get a replacement for the iBook.

Off to bed, I think.

Hugs all.

Had a pretty quiet day today. Nodded off during the Football game and had a nice Anniversary dinner with my Poppa Bear. I made Ranch chicken drummioes and pasta salad with peas, & we had watermelon & Bread pudding. 1st time I’ve made Bread pudding & it was the Nom. Now I gotta clean up my kitchen!
Laterz!

Good morning - up too early again and coughing like crazy - ugh. I don’t think I’m sick - it’s just a tickle, but it’s making me crazy!!

I expect today we’ll tidy up the miscellaneous crap from yesterday that’s spread all over the house. The big plan for today involves dragging as much as we can from the garage to the basement. Daughter is coming over so she can help out. Then we’re taking her out for a birthday dinner.

My class starts on Tuesday and I still haven’t organized my tools. I’ll take care of that today or tomorrow.

And that’s all… for now…

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffienatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 77 Amurrkin out and muggy as all get out! The predicted high is only 86! Oh My! Of course Lee is poised to dump rain on us so I’m told. Feels like it should start anytime now. Oh and we have a flash flood watch throughout today and tomorrow. Fine with me. Come on rain! Outside of deheathenization and brunch today I ain’t got nuttin’ else to do or anywhere to go. Be nice to be in da cave listenin’ to rain.

Pearl glad your bread puddin’ turned out good. Bread puddin’ is a wunnerful comfort food ain’t it!

Happy Birthday FCDaughter!

gt glad things are comin’ along with the laptop. Ain’t 'puters a pain sometimes!

Now I shall go in search of more caffiene and consider brekkie. I’m sorta hungry but not really. Of course I must purtify for deheathenization and the “Feast of Saint Seersucker.”

Happy Sunday Y’all!

I have never, to my knowledge, suffered from depression although I’ve had the occasional time when I’ve just felt majorly apathetic. I have certainly never been at a point where I’d considered counselling or medication so I have nothing to add there apart from sending hugs to Taters and rosie, and hoping you both find some kind of solution that suits you.

So today is marathon day here in sunny WV6. It has been quite strangely quiet all morning, our little street is closed to traffic at both ends because it joins the main road with the road that runs to the park. The marathon races are starting and finishing at the park so the access road is going to be busy for most of the day, and our main road is at the beginning of the race (there are 2mile markers on the traffic lights). I did watch a few people drive up the street and stop at the barrier where it says “road ahead closed”, get out of their cars, look at the barrier and then turn round again. Obviously a barrier and sign isn’t enough for some folks.

I’ve had a very busy week at work, and yesterday I was doing the last lot of pre-holiday shopping for toiletries and emergency supplies. Last night’s dinner was beef in mushroom sauce with a bit of tinkering. Due to the fact I’d bought some steak from the butcher but hadn’t quite decided how to cook it, I opted for this particular recipe and then realised it required natural yogurt and i hadn’t got any. I substituted some béarnaise sauce stirred in at the end, and 'im indoors was most impressed. It’s his turn to cook today, I believe there will be mutton curry tonight!

Five more sleeps until holidays, and then when I come back from the Caribbean I will only have six more working days until unemployment. Woot!

Up, caffeinated, off to irk. Plans for work are uncertain(Depends on what certain people have in mind).

Good luck with the laptop, gt.

So we started carrying BBCAmerica last week - and I’ve rediscovered Doctor Who. But I’m not going to try to catch up all in one weekend. I’ll work on the Matt Smith episodes first, then work my way backwards-ish. It’s a Time lord thing.

I’m up and drinking my first cup of coffee.

I need to do some minor tidying and then I’ll have to hop in the shower. Our friends and my daughter and sweetie will be here around 11:00 this morning.

Hubby is still sleeping. He got up around 2:30 this morning feeling ill. He stayed up for a bit, but finally came back to bed. I hope he’s feeling better when he wakes up.

I also have to make sammiches for our canoe excursion and find the little cooler. I was going to use my son’s soft sided cooler, but I don’t know what he did with it.

Yikes.

So, yeah working again, and I should say working my ASS off. As faithful readers may recall, I recently started working for a friend at a bus company nearby. It’s a large, and rapidly growing company. About 6 weeks ago, I thought I was going to get this particular job, but they moved another manager to open this new location.

Last week, I got called to help rescue their sinking ship. Me and two other experienced managers. I gotta say it cost them about $10K more to get me once they needed me than it would have in the first place.

Oh. My. Shit. But this place was, and mostly still is a large cluster-intercourse. They opened a brand new branch serving six contracts spread over 5 school districts with 150 buses and waited til the month before they had to start school to do it.

Total chaos. Not enough drivers, but luckily it’s a big enough company that we can borrow drivers from nearby locations. A complete lack of any organization - when I started there last week, I found out the mechanics hadn’t even been paid in four weeks. Just too much to do all at once. So I’ve been leaving the house at 5 and getting home sometime after 8 each day. And with that, I’m kind of a slacker - some of the routing staff are literally pulling all-nighters.

AND, the day I agreed to go help these people, I scheduled my interview for the job I really wanted, replacing a school district director close by. That’s a better job because it’s smaller, district admins have a way cool pension that I’m already about 50% vested into, and they more or less wrote the job description with me in mind. (long story).

So Thursday I had that interview. I really believe I whipped it. I am the most experienced person they’re talking to, I have the ‘extra’ skills they want - to upgrade the position. In other words the lady I’d replace is like many in this industry, a bus driver that got promoted until she found herself running the place. Little or no tech skills, and no experience doing district level administrative things. Which is what I’ve spent the last eight years doing.

So the CatWife tells me I owe some loyalty to the guy that pulled me into work a couple weeks ago. I say yes, but I owe ME more loyalty to me. We agree that for $XX K, I could justify leaving a place that I’ve been at for a month, even considering that they are treating me rather well, even though the place is currently a post-apacolyptic hole, it will get better.

Then at the end of the interview, we all talk dollars and cents, and I ask what the range they expect to pay would be. Superintendent gives me a range that’s pretty generous and says they used comparables at area districts, etc… Then he says that as I have the most experience of the applicants that I should expect to be at the top of that range.

Gulp. “That range” is about 10% over what I was making 6 months ago, and well over the number I could abandon my current job for.

So cross fingers Dopers!

So no shindiggin’ yesterday. When all of your friends are cat people, herding them takes on a certain characteristic.

I need to get in a walk today before we get all tropical storm’d on.

CatDude - fingers, toes, eyes, and Smokey’s hind legs are crossed

Appropriate/Inappropriate appendages crossed for the new gig CatDude.

We deheathenated and brunched. Then we came home and napped. I napped for close to three hours! It’s rainin’ and that’s what rain does to me. Dindin shall be steak, baked N.O.T., sallit and cheesey bread. Sounds like a nice dindin on a rainy eve.

Wow, CatMan, sounds like a great opportunity. And you’ve given your friend some time at the worst part of their start-up, so you’ve done him a favor already. Fingers crossed for the other new job.

Got deheathenated, went to pick up brother’s new glasses and stopped by Whole Foods, have started laundry and am still finishing up making sure the laptop is set up right. Also, had spaghetti, roasted veggies and corn for lunch. And a fig. it was yummy.

Now I’m tired and might take a nap.

Hugs all.

Swampy, Cheesey Bread?
Details man!

Operation Clean the Man Cave is in progress, filling bag #3 of debris from former job.

Next mission: Muck out the van!
