So sorry to hear about the fishes, etc. in the fish tank, FCM. And hah, but you’re right, after you retire, every day is Saturday!!
Glad to hear too that everyone made it through Irene okay. Things are chugging along here - getting ready to start on my pottery class next week, I think; it depends on when the teacher has free time available for me. It’s great, though, to have one-on-one instruction! We’ve got another pool to check out too, one that is a bit closer but might not be as easy to get to, if that makes any sense.
Speaking of Hatch chiles … they had some last week that they were roasting up at the Albertson’s (grocery store) - there were people standing in long lines waiting for them, and they ran out! And the truck bringing a new supply broke down! Boy there were some upset folks!! The roasted chiles are pretty good, though. I’d like to see the recipe too, whoever made it. chuckles I’m still looking for New Mexico cuisine to make. The pork stew turned out fantastic, if not quite authentic (I put veggies in it).
Here’s something a bit odd: we got a notice from the rental office yesterday and among other things, they are no longer accepting postal money orders! Isn’t that unusual? Maybe someone stole a batch from the post office here or something, but it’s very odd that they won’t accept postal money orders. Tomorrow, they are hosting a dessert bake-off - my daughter is going to make some peach cobbler. So think good bake thoughts for her, please!
Howdy Y’all! Home from irk. Rah. Dindin shall be leftover sketties with a green sallit and garlic bread. I’ll make up for it tomorrow by makin’ jamalaya.
Good bakin’ thoughts headed out to Herbsdaughter. How could they not love peach cobbler though.
Thanks for posting about your Irene experience, Moooooom. Condolences to your fish. Those shots of the tank pre-hurricane are really nice. I got all relaxed just looking at them.
Today’s supper was a sandwich of some swanky imported Italian lunchmeat called Mortadella by the nice people at Citterio. I should’ve known, being half-Italian, but it tasted like high-end baloney. Yawn Next time I’ll get the Sopresetta. At least it was ok with Swiss cheese & mayo and the peach pie I had for dessert was very nice.
For the rest of us non-'tired folks, we’re a day closer to Saturday and a nice long Labor Day weekend. Yay!
We just finished transferring all the live rock from the dead tank to another that **FCD **set up for his office, but never quite got there. We had almost enough saltwater to fill that tank - we just topped it off a with a little fresh water and it’s pumping away, keeping the coral alive. The tank upstairs is just circulating water to keep it from stinking. We gave everything we could find alive to daughter for her classroom tank.
PapaJohn is making supper. I’m off to pick it up. Wish I had some peach cobbler, too…
Mmm, peach cobbler! We have to eat the rest of the pineapple upside-down cake first.
Tonight we’re having orange-ginger salmon already on its own plank! And wild rice and baby trees with cheez sauce. Yum!
I’m tahred. And have I told you that it’s HOT outside? No? Well it is! Another 3 digit day. This weekend there should be some rain to cool us off a little.
Mortadela IS bologna. It’s what we call bologna in Spain and in some parts of Italy. IOW, my reaction to encountering “bologna” was “oh, ok, here they call mortadela bologna… no green olives variety? Damn.”
I’m supposed to evaluate a technical document so large that it was sent in four parts and which refers to something I don’t even know how to access. The plan consists of re-sticking the four parts together and then hunting down someone who can explain wth is it about. Anybody got a salacot? I suspect it’s going to count as “big prey”…
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffienatin’ YAWN 'Tis 77 degrees Amurrkin out with a predicted high of only 96. Where’s my longjohns? We had a couple of tboomers last night. I went to sleep to the sound of one. AHHHHHHHHH!!!
Other than that I got nuttin’. Thus, I go to seek more caffiene and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, alas, irk purtification must commence.
Goooooooood morning, all! I’ve got a load of sheets in the washer and caffeine near at hand. It’s a brisk 58° in my back yard right now - a tease of autumn to come.
Today’s plans involve me driving across the Nice Bridge to Dahlgren to take some saltwater to my daughter’s classroom. She’s setting up her aquaria today, but first, she’s stopping by to drop off salt and the jugs to refill her tank. I’ll mix up the water for about 3 hours, then fill the jugs and take them to her. By that time, she should have her freshwater tank up and running. Plus there’s a new WalMart that just opened in Dahlgren - I’ll have a chance to check it out. Good times!
I forgot to share one interesting tidbit of my weekend. On Monday, I woke about 0315 and just couldn’t get back to sleep. So about 4 or so, I lit the candle on my dresser an sorted the contents of the dresser drawers. I filled 2 plastic grocery bags with stuff for AMVETS and a third with stuff that just needed to be tossed. Then I got back into bed and fell back to sleep. Maybe the need to sort my T-shirts was what woke me??
I think I need to forage for breakfast. Happy Wednesday!!
Up caffeianted, off to irk. I had some sad news, my friend has to put her bloodhound to sleep today, and one of my Hockey Convention peeps passed away from cancer last night.
Puttin’ presentations together at irk. Fun times. It’s more like one presentation to be presented a gazillion times. On the upside by the time I do presentation eleventyninetysix I should be good at it.
swampy, was it you who taught the person sending me that technical design how to split files? She sent four files labeled Part 1, Part 2… but all four are identical. I’m awaiting with baited breath (and does anybody know where that expression comes from, anyway? Am I supposed to use my breath to nab catfish?) the response to my question of “is this the whole file or am I missing 3/4?”
It’s a fishy morning here, sorta. I’m mixing up saltwater for daughter’s classroom - I’ll be delivering it in about 3 hours. I had to turn the heater off in the small tank - the water was way too warm - I knew that even without a thermometer. And a missing snail turned up in the small tank, so yay for that!
Another day… so Monday starts with an epic coffee pot failure. Luckily, being the type that believes in contingency plans, I had a moka pot I could use. Yesterday, on the way to work, my worthless piece of shit Suburban blew up while on I-5. Yep, 70mph down the freeway, then suddenly, smoke. Lots and lots of smoke. Didn’t know there could be so much smoke! Quite embarrassing. Cracked block. It’s a goner. So my Wednesday is going to be filled with paperwork at the bank to try to get enough $$ on loan to get a new-for-me car. Despite liking contingency plans, I don’t have a another vehicle or the cash to go out and buy one.
But… my oldest son is loving school! So some things are looking up.
The Master Speaketh concerning Bated Breath. It’s the Dope helpin’ The Dope!
Lance yikes! Hope the bucks for the new wheels comes through.
The rough draft of the presentation is finished. Now I’m seein’ if’n I can make it more interestin’. So far I am booooooooooorrrrrrrrrred just readin’ through it.
