I usually cringe at “me too” posts, but it’s just been said as well or better than I could hope to, so…
This, all of this, exactly. Including the older, married and crushing parts…
As well as this (except for the “did not participate” part.)
Well, except for the cavalier freedom simster seems to be giving you to leave – we’re (OK, I’m) not having any of that!
(J/K :), won’t actually hunt you down – I’ll just be sorry to see you go if you decide to)
C’mon, I don’t actually believe any of y’all exist. Why should umkay be any different?
Seriously, all we have to go on for any of us are our words, so until proven otherwise, all we can do is accept it at face value. No need to provide 3 forms of ID.
Is anyone actually asking for umkay to provide any ‘proof’ that she is who she says she is? I might have missed it if someone did. The only thing mentioned was that for a brief time, given the spoofing of NotOkay, that it crossed the mind of a few people. As I said, for about three seconds, I thought back to Wally, but immediately dismissed it as lunacy in this case, as it is quite obvious that Umkay is genuine.
umkay, I agree with the sentiments of the others…you have nothing to prove, and you certainly do not need to reveal more information about yourself in an effort to ‘convince’ anyone of anything.
Now, on to more important things, like…has your brother installed any new cool super gadgets for your flying chair of doom?
I’ll post and then I’m taking a day or two away from this.
For the record I never doubted umkay and don’t now. The only reason I suggested she interact with a mod was because she felt frustrated about the situation. It seemed like a simple way to cut to the chase. That’s it.
I feel old. To me, the Internet remains both a great connector AND a huge layer between people. I think of the old cartoon with the caption “On the Internet, no one knows you’re a dog!”. And other threads where someone was actually misrepresenting themselves, let alone the crimes we read about online misrepresentation. So her frustration at the turn of events seemed very understandable.
I am sorry if my suggestion came across as anything else umkay.
Yes Virginia there is an umkay
I came to the Dope in search of knowledge and firmly believe that most of us did as well, I do not lie on the Dope and believe that most of you tell the truth as well, I stay out of the PIT because I see enough of the dark side of Humanity. Call me naive, call me a fool, tell me I over use commas and write run-on sentences but I have no doubt as to the veracity of umkay.
notokay you have violated me and mine as well as the rules we here all try to abide by. I have no idea of what you were trying to accomplish but what you have done is made an enemy of me. This is my home, our home and you shat on the living room carpet. Do not find yourself in a room alone with me or you will live up to your screen name notokay.
The people here might be ones and zeros but they are, to me, as real as my flesh and blood friends. I rise every day and check in on my fellow Mumpers, see if I have any truths for GQ, opine in IMHO and even check out GD. I am a proud Doper, if still a newbie.
I am not sure that I have a point here, other than my anger at YKW and maybe this post belongs in the pit so apologies to all the Dopers and Mods if it does. I am just glad that we got our girl back, crazy flying chair O’death and all.
Disagree-- a “good” hoax should at least be difficult to pull off. It requires making people believe something otherwise unbelievable… A witty young quadrapalegic with a penchant for writing may be notable, but certainly not unbelvable. Getting people to fall for that would be as good a hoax as if I started an “ask the barber” thread and it was later uncovered I was an electrician.
Hey umkay, didn’t you know you’re meant to wait for three days before coming back from the dead? How are you going to convince anyone that you’re the Messiah now?
based on evidence from other thread - I am rescinding my post to umKay until further evidence (one way or the other) is received - at this point, its not looking good and it appears I was duped.
I don’t feel bad about it- I think the thread (up until the end) was fascinating in many ways and I think I learned a few things out of it.
I wil say this - a good hoax does not have to be difficult - it just has to work - the best hoaxes aer clearly more difficult to do - but this was still a very well done hoax given that other, more knowledgable on the subject, posters were also taken in.
I don’t post much, so you don’t know me, Umkay, but still, I’m very happy that you are well!
I actually read this thread before I saw the unpleasant end of the “ask the…” thread (of which I read the whole thing), so I never had to do any sort of mourning for you, but it’s great that you are doing ok, in any case!
