Good afternoon, Mumpers! I’m putting off walking errands because it’s raining, and I know even with an umbrella, I’m going to get uncomfortably wet in the Not Our Shoe area. When did I become such a wimp?
I’ve moved something like 17 or 18 times ( Like a rolling stone), and hands down, the best free boxes are from the liquor store: sturdy, nice size, and solid. I was not fond of produce boxes due to holes or gaps, but maybe that’s just me.
Speaking of moving, yesterday I wondered if I was going to have to move to get peace and quiet, but today I’m hopeful I won’t. First of all, while Downstairs Neighbors (DN) were yelling yesterday, they stopped within a couple of hours. Second of all, we all got a text today from management today saying there were a lot of complaints about loud music over the weekend and reminding people of the quiet hours. So maybe that will help.
nut, good luck with the move!
Moooom, good luck with La-ZpBoy. I’ve never heard anything bad about them, so good to know.
{{{{wet one}}}} Nobody tells us that we’ll never stop missing our parents–those of us blessed with good parents, that is. Both my parents have been gone (for 10 and 32 years respectively), and I miss them daily. Here’s an extra hug: {wet one}.
Howdy Y’all! We now have a cleanin’ lady. She shall come twice a month to do her thing. Bonded even. Yay for that! We have also supped. ‘Tis rainy and ick out so glad to be doin’ Vestry via Zoom. I’m thinkin’ a hot cup of caffeine would go well right now.
{{{WetOne}}} I miss my parents, as well. Hope the cataract thing goes well. No problem with 'em yet for me, but eye doc assures me that one day I will.
OK, gonna go get me some hot caffeine and steel myself for Vestry in fifty minutes.
Domino’s made supper - mushroom/spinach pizza for me, BBQ wings for FCD, salads for both of us. OK, I made my own salad, but he got their garden salad. Anyway, food has been ingested and the dishwasher is swishing away.
I used to have a couple of parents.* My dad (would have been 109 now) died a month before my 16th birthday, and my mum (would have been 106) died a couple weeks before my 31st.
Another day of sloth here. Library was supposed to reopen today, so I will go tomorrow to return books I have and (hopefully) acquire more.
I think they used to sell Carhartt stuff at our local Krogers, but I dunno if they still do. They’re pushing their own brands of stuffs a lot these days.
My father died almost 20 years ago. My mom about 6 years ago. My youngest brother died 50 years ago and my middle brother about 4 years ago. (I don’t have any time sense, so I could be off by a year or two.)
I don’t remember any of their birthdays 'cause, to me, once you’re dead, you quit having birthdays.
I don’t know why I think that way, I just do.
It’s grey and dreary here and 41f at the moment. I’m perfecting my layabout pose as we speak.
In a little bit we will need to take the pups for their daily walk. That’ll be the high point of the day.
Thanks for the hugs. I think about my mom and dad every day. Some days make me sad. Good news on the cataract surgery. The MD can correct my astigmatism so that I need only readers. The bad news is insurance doesn’t cover the corrective lenses so it’s $2600 out of my pocket. Oh well, I’ll be saving several hundred dollars every year by not having to get speshul progressives in expenses frames. Cuz I’m like that.
Missed the edit window. It’s 6pm. My eyes were dilated at 2:30 and I still look like Little Orphan Annie. Minimal lights are turned on. I don’t want to wear my sunglasses at night,
nellie, in my younger days, the likker sto’ was my favorite box place too. The boxes even had dividers for glassware. Nowadays, I buy most of the boxes when I move, but leave the pros do the heavy lifting.
TSC has Nelson’s preferred dog food should Chewy ever quit carrying it. I tend to purchase plants there in the spring.
We got snow here in middle Tennessee! There’s not much, but it made driving a little messy today. I went to the doctor this morning and stopped at the big Tuesday Morning in MJ on the way home. I found the plastic storage baskets I was looking for yesterday. When I got home, I did a bit of organizing in the studio before taking the car in for its oil change. It’s back to irk tomorrow.
The purging of the paper continues in the basement. Eight more boxes to go. Today’s find was an autograph from Marvin Gaye, dated 1976, that the Ms got at one of his concerts. We’ll put it with the signed letter that she got from Jim Jones (yes, THAT Jim Jones). Also found all of her stuff from when she worked for Cesar Chavez and the Farm Workers Union.
On the bad side, the washing machine has developed problems. The interlock isn’t working, which means no clothes can be washed. I signed back up for a home warranty service, but it won’t even be looked at until the 26th. Screw it, I’m ordering pizza for dinner to soothe my troubled soul.
Thought y’all would want to know that I have successfully survived another Vestry meetin’. My term ends end of January next year. Only twelve more meetin’s to go! Now 'tis snack and Netflix time!
We’ve just been told that our moron governor, Kate Brown, has decided that instead of seniors with issues being the next in line for vaccination, that teachers will instead be next. In other words, she’s caved in to pressure from the union. This means that tens of thousands of teachers and staff will have to be vaccinated (which won’t start until at least April), which pushes people like me who are most at risk to the end of the line. Well, fuck you, governor. We’ll be seeing you at the ballot box.
I walked errands: the UPS Store to return a jungle item, home to get the rolly cart, then the grocery store. I got wet. So did the rolly cart. So did everything IN the rolly cart. Such is life on the edge of a rain forest. In between those errands, I found out my niece, who is having a birthday today, got word that her husband had broken his leg. Happy Birthday to her!
Red, I did the same with likker store boxes and glasses! I’ve never been able to afford professional movers, but I hear that’s the way to go. Smartest $200 I ever spent was when I moved here and hired a three-person crew to unload the U-Haul. It took 'em less than 30 minutes to unload the truck, and because I had all the boxes labeled re: where they were to go, it was really organized. My friend who drove said truck is only 4’9, so we weren’t sure how we’d get the 5’0-wide queen mattress up the stairs to my apartment.
Herald, damn, that’s a lot of loss. Hats off to you for putting one foot in front of the other. Don’t know if it’s worth much, but here’s a huge, squishy hug: {{{{{Herald}}}}}
Bumby, what I hate about these vaccine plans is how they prioritize, and how that pits one group against another. I have many former colleagues still in the profession, including several who are high-risk. They had no choice but to return to work, and to heck with their odds of survival. One just got out of the hospital with COVID. I have no consolation, just hope that you get the vaccine soon and are safe…'cause, you know, we all lurves ya.
Swampy, what??! You’re going to divest the vestry next year? How’ll they survive without you? Glad you got a cleaning lady.
nellie, I always had friends and family with a UHaul until this last time. I hired movers who got me loaded from an upstairs apartment, drove the 32 miles to my new digs, unloaded everything (cartons were labeled, so they even put everything in the right rooms) and set up my bed in just under 3 hours. Best $600 I’ve spent in a long time. Most of my friends are just as decrepit as I am, so the days of buying pizza and beer to get moved are over.
Carhartt at a grocery store? They’re a very popular workwear brand out here, but I’ve never seen them sold at a grocery store. Around me, Tractor Supply has a bit, and a small chain called Boot Barn has more. I get most of mine on Amazon or the local “Army-Navy” surplus store.
My “place” in the vaccine lineup has gone from Phase 3 (ordinary people) to Phase 2 (Financial services IT) to Phase 1C (over 50) but today, they floated the idea of essentially first-come, first-jabbed.
Loosely related to that, PWAISDN is in a bad place and I have a whopper of a headache from trying to reopen his unemployment claim. The salon he was working out of has closed permanently, so a couple days ago, we went there to retrieve his stuff. He’s been shut down since mid-December, but the salon closure was a surprise and a kick to the head. Not sure how much more he can take - his net income last year was dismal.
My darling governor has announced that meat packing plant workers can’t get the vaccine unless they are a citizen or have a green card. I mean, it’s not like working in close quarters with hordes of others creates risk or anything or packing plants has been a hot spot…
The only saving grace is I’ve never known a doctor or a nurse who asked someone for their green card before giving them care. I will be really hard to get them to start now.
Long dang day at irk. The Monday crew does not necessarily feature grown-ass adults, but does include one girl who’s very sweet and heartfelt but also shrill - oh, so loud.
Plus, she has a brand-new boyfriend, so guess what she screeches about non-stop?
I know I have leftovers (I didn’t forget!) but those never excite me and I needed a touch of comfort, so I got two tacos from Taco Hell on the way home. One has been assimilated as I type.
The other will be, after a peaceful smoke. And a couple shots of cheap booze, cuz ugh what a long day.
That sounds awful for each of you. Yuck. Here’s hoping he finds some way to land on his feet soon.
