The I Don't Have A Topic MMP

I’m right there with you Cookie. As a 73 year old Orygunian with a heart condition, (among other problems) this pisses me off too. The only saving grace is that the daughter unit is a teacher, so good news for her.

I’m sorry. Totally my fault for not explaining properly. There is a small chain of grocery/department stores around here called Fred Meyers that was bought out a few years ago by Kroger. I should have said Fred Meyers. Sorry.

No, I wouldn’t. Can’t improve on perfection.

Also, your governor is an idiot.

Ask her if she has relatives in Olympia, Washington. I think they live downstairs.

Gotti, I’m so sorry about PWAISON’s continuing employment issues. No wonder he’s down. The world needs good stylists. Seriously, it does. I wish I had a solution.

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 44 Amurrkin out and cloudy with a predicted high of 56 and mostly cloudy (partly N.O.S.?) for the day. I have a doc and vampire appointment this mornin’. Today is also laundry day. Sup shall be tacos 'n fixin’s cause today is Taco Tuesday. OLÈ! Other stuff may or may not happen. We’re all willy-nilly like that.

gotti so sorry PWAISDN is havin’ such a tough time with employment. Maybe the vaccine will be the light at the end of the tunnel or whatever. Hope he’s able to get back to irk soonest.

Cookie and Bumba I think your goobernor deserves to be a one termer. I’m hopin’ the Jawja one becomes a one termer in two years.

shoe I had my share of yakkity co-irkers. Sometimes I think some folks need to be reminded that not everyone loves the sound of their voices as much as they do.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, alas, alack, woe of woe, and bother of bothers, I must needs purtify and don appropriate bein’ about the public attire. How I do suffer!

Happy Tuesday Y’all!

Oh for… after all this madness, just had a call from the new job agency going roughly thus: ‘Hi, really sorry I didn’t get back to you earlier, but did you need accommodation for the first few weeks or the job, or did you manage to sort something out?’

They had suggested they could help earlier, but only in an initial phone conversation, nothing in writing, and then there hadn’t been a single mention of it again. As a bunch of the info they gave me actually turned out to apply to a different -much higher paid- role in the same agency, which they usually deal with, I assumed that was an error.

Oh well, he did say that if there are any mixups with the moving- which is, after all, not out of the question- they can still sort something last minute if necessary.

WOOHOO!!! Daughter is scheduled for her COVID shot tomorrow. MD’s guv is da bomb! He’s got a plan and it appears to be going well, since she’s in the second priority group (educator.) I’m in the next group, so maybe soon? Especially when we get some competent adults in charge on the Federal level. < happy dance >

Nut - glad there’s a contingency, just in case. Too bad it wasn’t made clearer sooner, but at least you and your menagerie won’t be living in the car.

Leftover pizza for breakfast. That’s as far as I’ve planned for today, tho I’m thinking I might give both upstairs bathrooms a good going-over. FCD should be finishing his report today which means starting tomorrow, I may be helping him in his shop. We shall see. Onward!!

Happy Tuesday!

I have no menagerie any more, except plants :frowning: No bees, no weird newt things, no nuffink.

Still got more plants than is quite sensible though.

I’m sorry about your critters. (Plants are funny that way. “Take me! I’m low maintenance!”) Good luck with stuffing your car to the gills - did the same about a year ago.
Hope you can still see to drive safely!

Meanwhile, I’m over here laughing bitterly at the “Teachers get shots first! Boo! Out wit’ the guv’nor! Caved to unions!” and then “Teachers get shots! Yay for our guv’nor! Schools shall re-open!” posts.

Look, I’m just happy someone is getting vaccinated, since - despite serving medical patients in person all day, not to mention handling cash exclusively at work - I have no idea when I might get mine.

But I’m probably just cranky, as everyone else around me celebrates their stimulus payment like drunken sailors - or responsible bill-paying adults - and I get to do neither, as there is no $ coming to me for absolutely no discernable reason.

My parents want to pay to re-wire the basement of my rental house just so I can plug in my dryer, but don’t grok that I can’t take Nikki to the vet because I can barely pay bills.

Y’all have a nice morning.

ooops - brain fart - I was confusing you with shoe. Do you two look that much alike?

I know what you mean about plants, tho. When I finally graduated from college and my parents were helping me move the last of my stuff, I was cramming potted plants in every crevice I could find in the car. They were not impressed. But we got them all moved safely, so there’s that.

It’s sad how disorganized the vaccine distribution has become. Our governor has been doing a great job - he’s a Republican who is actually listening to advice from medical professionals and the man displays leadership! Can you imagine? There there’s the ass in FL who is letting localities do what they want to do, plus he prioritizes the elderly over health care professionals and first responders. Yeah, there’s a plan…

OK, no more. The whole situation makes me stabby.

On the plus side, I’ve got lots of stuff being delivered this week. I ordered new shoes for treading the mill, some curtains, some filters for the critter fountains, plus I’m getting a replacement for the damaged top of the dog’s end table/crate. And with luck, my Roku will show up some time before hell freezes over. Yay for new stuff! Because, yanno, there’s nothing like stuff.

I got enough exercise yesterday afternoon/last night that I could eat enough to feed a small family. First, I waddled on the treadmill and did some yoga stretches (which was an excellent recommendation). Second, as my family was settling down to watch The Mandalorian (in which I’m relatively uninterested), my friend from around the corner called and asked if I’d be interested in walking her dogs with her. What ensued was a 40-minute powerwalk in subzero temperatures, but it was worth it.

I’ve scarfed down some oatmeal and fruit and am working on cup #2 of coffee. I have another case of not wanting to talk to anyone, which seems pretty constant lately, and am just sitting here dreaming of lunch. I need to get on overlyhubs to call the garage guy. On Saturday as I was bringing the girl home from soccer, the garage on my side slammed shut with a huge boom. Come to find out one of the wheels had jumped its tracks and the tension wire holding the thing up had snapped. Ordinarily we would just manually open it, but it seems somewhat unstable and I’d rather not crush my husband today.

On the subject of removals, I thought that you might be interested in a story from my dim and distant past. Well before mobile phones and computers.

I was in my early twenties and got a job as a truck driver in London. It was a fairly typical (at the time) business with five assorted lorries doing just about any haulage work they could get, including removals.

Removals always happened on Saturdays and each lorry would have a crew of three. One day we were sent on a big job involving all five vehicles. It was a big old house with five floors and it was owned by a charity. On each floor there was a woman with one or more children - several different races and nationalities and some not speaking much English. They were not even expecting us.

As the new boy, I was given the top floor, where there was a black woman with three children aged from baby to toddler. She didn’t have much and we got stuck in packing up, throwing stuff in drawers and wardrobes and then fighting our way downstairs as the other drivers were doing much the same thing.

We shifted what furniture there was and dismantled the beds (the baby was still in its cot), and in three hours or so, we had it all in the van and ready to go. At this point, the woman told me that she had no idea where they were moving to and no means of getting there. All the other (more senior) drivers were long gone so, in the end, I put the woman and children in the back of the lorry and took them with us.

The new house was as big as the old one, and when we got there the other teams had just dumped the furniture all over the place. We weren’t paid for time after 12am and there was clearly no tip coming, but I couldn’t just abandon this family. We carried the bigger bits of furniture up to the top floor and assembled the beds. I thought that it was the least we could do, but my two porters were most unimpressed at having to put in an unpaid hour.

May I please nominate my goobenor to be unceremoniously unelected too? The heartless jerk that wants human beings doing high risk work to provide all of us with meat to not be vaccinated unless they can show a green card? That jerk?

Afternoon, mumpers! It’s grey out there today, the weather app says “Oh, shut up and enjoy the sunshine” and promises me 4C/39F to 8C/46F which is much milder than the last few days. I have been out to drag the big recycling bin back after it was emptied, and I also went to the post office so I’ve had a bit of fresh air already.

Since we have an ever-changing priority list and a Vaccines Minister who is as competent as you would expect from a tory minister…the vaccine calculator says that I have between 22,755,773 and 26,045,733 people in front of me in the queue. Basing their estimate on 1m vaccinates per week and a 70.6% uptake, I should get my first shot between 21/06/2021 and 14/07/2021, and I can expect my second dose between 13/09/2021 and 06/10/2021 . I think that roughly translates to Not Going Out.

bob_bob, you’re a good guy! My spousal unit would have done the same thing.

I just suffered thru a bout of domesticity. I cleaned both bathrooms upstairs, including scrubbing the tub that is now only used to bathe Higgs. Then I ran the mop over the kitchen floor, discovering that there are spots in the pattern on the tile that look like dirt spots, but they aren’t. And I finished with the floor in the basement bathroom and laundry room. I won’t scrub the basement tub, tho I might let some bleach water sit in it for a while. But I will go back and clean the sink and terlit.

And, believe it or not, I did all that without benefit of frilly apron or string of pearls! June Cleaver would be aghast!!! :open_mouth:

Almost time to think about lunch. And I’ll push the vacuum around the common areas. And maybe dust?? Or is that too much of a disturbance in The Force??

I’m in the third group to be vaccinated in my state, behind essential workers/first responders and people over the age of 75. I’ll be in the 65-74 group. Maybe February. Looks like Ali-bama is doing about as well as they do anything, which means it’s not a disaster but far from perfect. We’ll see.

Breakfast has been ingested. Supposed to be in the mid-40’sF the next couple of days, so not in a hurry to go outside.

bob the second, nice story and good on ya.

talky, glad you don’t want to crush your husband today…there’s always tomorrow, however…

gotti {{{ }}} to you and PWAISDN; hope it all works out in the end. And hope the eye issues can be corrected. And you were wise to have some cash for times like that; many don’t.

shoe, I got a stimulus payment of $13.55 total…I’m really stimulated over that, let me tell you…

Nut, at least it is nice to know that you have a fall-back option if things get screwy on the move. Good luck.

Cookie, have you checked if those autographs may be worth some money? Doubt it would be very much, but hey… And sorry for the washing machine news. Not having one can be a real pain.

OK, time to balance the bank accounts and check on things here and there. All y’all take care.

? Think you may have mixed me with someone else. No eye issues here other than needing to use reading glasses. And what’s cash?

You are right, it was wet one who has the eyes…my bad. Be well.

Spent a few fascinating days there in early '86.

Had a nuke on my first boat we called that. His LCPO was called Chief Bob, and the “Bob” moniker spread through the division – Joel-Bob, Lex-Bob, &c. So when the guy whose name really was Bob came in…

Have no idea where I am in the queue for vaccinations. They’ll get around to me eventually, I suppose. Right now I’m much more interested in where our stimilus cheques are.

Last night the doorbell rings about 6:30. I look out and there is a man with a big shiny badge around his neck. I thought “now what have the neighbors done???” It wasn’t the po-po though. He was a process server looking for my brother. The one that died over 7 years ago. I offered him a copy of dead brother’s death cert but he didn’t need it. I’m assuming he will check the giant database of dead people and find brother’s name. He was very polite and we had a nice chit chat.

I got coal-rolled.

He missed. :stuck_out_tongue:

Howdy Y’all! I survived the doc and the vampires. I also treated OYKW and myself to link snausage bizkits from Pearly’s (NUM!) because I am nice, dammit! Also, laundry got done and we et an early sup of taco’s 'n fixin’s. OLÉ!

Nuts good to know there’s an option for housin’ in case you needed it. Would have been nice of 'em to offer earlier, but better late than never I suppose.

2Bobs good on you and a great story!

wetone JDD had to deal with stuff like that when his brother died. He told one especially persistent person to go dig his brother up but he probably wouldn’t find any money as his brother was cremated.
