Yes, it does, Nuts.
Happy Moanday all
Up, Caffinating and sore, three days of production hell but I survived. I had a pretty cool event Saturday, an awards ceremony for school teachers. Ten teachers split $225k USD! I ran the audio cues, lighting cues and was the Voice of God, busy, busy, busy. Sunday I made the loud for Candlebox, it was very much like being in a 90’s time warp. TVCTPMO made me use an alarmclock that had a 5 as the first number for all three days. I did not get into the Rock and Roll business to get up that early.
I need to eat and drink more coffee
Cheers
Jim
First time MMPer.
So, ZakalwePrincess has started piano lessons - which requires the availability of a practice instrument. After some research and discussion with the instructor, my wife and I decided to forego the electronic keyboard route and jump in with both feet. A little craigslisting yielded a nice console (upright) piano for sale nearby with a good price (for those interested - $180 for a Kohler & Campbell in good condition - it’s even in tune with the exception of the very lowest register). Call up best friend and off we go!
Get to piano owner’s house and like it. Back truck up to steps and load the thing in. Holy shit. Did you know pianos are REALLY heavy? I don’t mean big dresser or china cabinet heavy, I mean DAMN HEAVY.
Shit. What to do now? We realize that there ain’t no way the two of us (plus wife) are getting that beast down off the truck and into the house - at least not in one piece. Stop at the pub whilst research is done and texts are sent. One hour later, our workforce has doubled. 30 mins after that, piano is in the house. One worker has a pretty good ding on one toe and I have a pulled muscle in my shoulder/back and I have a lot less beer.
ZakalwePrincess arrives at the residence (she was sent off to make this a surprise). The look on her face (“Oh wow. I — I mean we — have a REAL PIANO!”) made it all worth it!
So, to as fine a set of good 'ole boys as ever walked the Earth, my thanks and the thanks of my daughter!
As song says:
That’s a great story Zaka!
Hey Z and welcome to the MMP, someone will be along shortly to give you a Mumpername if it hasn’t happened while I was typing. Sit a spell, have a cuppa joe or tea and blather along with the rest of us. We are here all week. Piano moving is not exactly fun, worth the beerverages eh’?
Voice of God, I realized that this might need some splaining
VOG is the hidden announcer that you hear at public events, this weekend had these gems
" Ladies and Gentlemen, Teachers from YES Prep public schools, Teach for America and KIPP Houston public schools please welcome to the stage, Jason Bernal, Sebah (pronounced SE-BA, and don’t screw it up like you did in rehearsal, twice) Ali and Luis (Spanish!) Elisando-Thompson"
(roll Audio, dim stage lights) “Please direct your attention to the screens as we announce our next “Teachers in Excellence” award winner”(Cue video roll)
My job is weird

There was a lovely trail of cat barf on the hood of my car this morning. I recognize the kibble (almost completely intact!) because, well, I’m the one who feeds the pair of ferals born on our property.
Set the tone for the morning, I think.
If it makes you feel better, my dog is still pooping mixed nuts.
Thanks for sharing!
I see none of you had any problems finding the new MMP.
I’m finally up and had my breakfast.
Mooooom you make me feel positively lazy as all I have done today is let the dog out and make myself a sandwich.
I love sleeping with an open window and this neighborhood is pretty safe and my window is fairly high off the ground. Even when I lived in the city I left my windows open at night even though two of them were on the porch and all somebody would have to do is cut the screen and step in.
I did start closing and locking the window over the basement stairs after somebody tried to come in that one. There was a roof over the stairs, very easy to climb up on and come through the window.
If this were my house I’d have the windows open 24/7 even though it gets a bit warm during the day. I love fresh air in the house.
I have a friend who never leaves her windows open, too scared even though her neighborhood isn’t bad.
I have clients who never open a window, they go from heat to AC to back to heat. I think it’s weird but I’m not paying their electric bill.
Nuts moving sucks
and moving a piano sucks even more
Rio I hope this week goes better for you

Yay! Picu
What public holiday is it today ScarieBoo?
hugs, kisses, gropes, slaps, chocolate and caffeine to those in need
I’ve got to do something besides play here all day
like that is going to stop me
I copied this post from my FB because I didn’t feel like typing it again:
Great story, Zaka! If you’d lived closer to me, I could have made you a deal on a piano. Mine has been sitting in the tiniest bedroom for years. It has stuff piled upon it and its bench. I can’t recall the last time I played it - 8 years maybe? One part of me wants it gone, but the other part clings to it. That’s why I still have my accordion - altho I did play it 6 years ago when my daughter was teaching 2nd grade. I took it to her classroom to show the kids and let them try it. In fact, my folks had given it to me when I was in the 2nd grade. It seemed so huge back then!
Anyway, welcome to the Kingdom of the Mumpers! Since you like beer, you and **swampy **and **doggio **will hit it off well!
I really should go convert the ground beef to meatloaf…
I now have a new I Know A Guy to fix my car: Mr. Night Audit Lady. He not only did the transmission/differential service on my car he found that my oil filter was loose and causing me to leak oil and I have a busted CV boot on my car. Polly Subaru is going back up to Weavervegas tomorrow for her new boot and again when she needs an oil change. Plus he’s letting me have the boot at cost so yays! And boos to the oil changing place down the street from the Stately Manor. They used to be pretty good when I started going there four years ago. They’ve slowly degenerated service-wise so the heck with them.
Besides, I’d rather go to Mr. NAL because that way I’m helping out NAL who has another mess of medical bills to deal with on top of an oxygen tank.
I’m sore from going up and down a mountain yesterday so after I straighten up the Stately Manor I’m going to fritter away my afternoon with some Skyrim.

You got off seriously cheap.
Of course, the various recently surgerized spots in my spine are all going “OWWW!” just thinking of moving a piano.
So I should be irking but instead I am reading
and stretching and well, not doing shit.
I need to get up and get dressed and bop on over to Best Buy but of course my phone is behaving this am. Except once again I have a VM with no indication that somebody has called.
I haven’t delivered a newspaper in over two years and one of my old customers called me to tell me he didn’t get his paper again today and how much he misses me and do I have a number he can call to get his paper delivered correctly because calling the paper is not getting any results.
He’s a nice man so I put out a few calls to see if I can get him a direct number to somebody who can help him.
Still waiting… waiting… waiting… to hear from the mortgage company.
My ear is mostly better, my eyes are still red.
Well, you didn’t really expect them to be sorted, did you?
Do your research on any car your looking at, especially if its used. The time and effort is more then worth it.
The Princess of course lacks snooze button, and is a champion at “get underfoot”, especially when any of the following apply:
human is not wearing her glasses
lights are not on
human is not fully awake.
In other news, blurf.
I’ve researched the tar out of it for two weeks now. I just called the dealer and told him I would take it for the price we negotiated this morning and to pull it off the market, I’d be there in two hours. He said someone has it out for a test now and that I just better hurry there.
I’m so disgusted I could spit. I hate the process, can’t stand 99% of the salesmen.
It is apparently “Zaka”.
Yes. Yes it does.
Heh. Thanks! Nice thing about this one is that it came from a family with a piano student who had progressed to the point where a better piano was needed/wanted. Guy cut me a bit of a deal on the price since it was essentially the mirror of his story when HE bought it. There are nice people out there…
Some would argue that what I like isn’t beer. See the story below.
Yeah, I realize that now! I also have learned why comedies and cartoons always show a piano being dropped on someone’s head (assuming a safe isn’t available). Dear Og!
Okay, so the other story from the weekend:
On Saturday we attended a party at a friend’s house. The theme was “White Trash Bash”. Not my favorite, but whatever. ZakaPrincess refused to dress to fit the theme - which upon reflection fit perfectly since most WT families always have the one that makes good and escapes the trailer park. Anyway, I wore my lawn mowing clothes (old t-shirt with sleeves cut and cut-off cargo shorts, camo flops, and an old camo trucker-style ball cap). Orders were to bring cheap beer - NO CRAFT BEER allowed. Now, as it happens my beer of choice in a bar is Miller Lite. At home, it’s Natural Light (WAY cheaper), so I was set.
We get there and it rapidly becomes apparent that only one other guest had any idea what a WTB really is. The costumes were a mix of Deliverance and Beverly Hillbillies. I commented to my wife that I was probably the only one there who didn’t actually have to buy/make anything specifically for the party.
So, the beer selection is: Natural Light, Miller Lite, Keystone Light, Michelob Ultra (see what I mean about not getting the theme?), Busch Light, and Bud Light.
The first event is a blind beer tasting - shot of beer, name the beer. Most right wins. Well, I won. 4 of 6 right (for the curious, I reversed Natty and Bud Light - they do taste really similar). Next closest was 2, but these guys are mostly micro-brew types.
Only big upside to the party was that I discovered Golden Flakes Louisiana Hot Sauce Pork Rinds. Wow - are those things awesome! Now to find a regular supply!
Another Monday and another morning of ex snoring on my couch in the kitchen. He should be getting served with the divorce papers later this week, we’ll see if that gives him a kick in the butt. According to a letter I gave him, August 31 is supposed to be his last day here. Yeah…if you could go ahead and pack your things, that’d be greaat…mmmkay…
