Sent my resume off for a few jobs and posted more stuff to my portfolio. I have more to put up put I have to fiddle with images and post some PDFs.
Not quite that high here, but if we’re at risk of flooding, I’ll be able to tell by all the animals going 2 by 2 down the road…
Back from class. I finished the tall vase I threw on the first day, partly finished the yarn bowl, and didn’t do anything to the big bowl since it was way too wet. heck, the yarn bowl was too wet also, but I messed with it a bit and I think it’ll work out. Then I grabbed a blob of white clay and made a fish sculpture for the wall, loosely based on a yellow tang, sorta. One of my classmates thought it resembled something else. As long as it’s recognizable as a fish, I’m happy. It will be glazed very colorfully.
And yes, I did remember the crackers, among other things. I decided supper would be quiche - one with fake crab, the other with ham. There will be plenty left over for breakfasts, so yay!
I think the rest of my afternoon will be spent knitting. I’m pretty sure I can finish the afghan for my bro and drop it off when I go to Mom’s on Wednesday. So I’ll be a knitting fool for the next few days. I think Netflix will be my friend…
Hey Ruble… Maybe you’re going to get a zombie buddy.
Here ya go, Paula.
Also, check out all the other Mumper’s recipes that have been collected over the years!
Muahaha!! My creation, it lives!!!
Well, my silly plan’s finished, after meaning to get round to it for 2 whole months.
I’m going to a juggling convention next week, which is generally rife with odd games, so I decided to make one- you know those steady hand tester things, the ones where you have to get a loop down a wire, without touching? It’s basically a giant one 'o them, but the twist is the loop’s mounted on a cycle helmet, which you have to wear… It’s like a steady head tester, which I get to unleash on a lot of drunk people. I gave myself blisters 'cos I’m rubbish at DIY, but it works, so it’s all ok.
Oh, and hugs to the folks with the nasty back stuff, I’m reading it with a bit of dread 'cos the reason I have time to make silliness is 'cos I’m off work with a possible slipped disc pressing on a nerve, (they decided they can’t justify an NHS scan 'cos they’d never operate unless it was waaay worse at my age, so just told me it’s probably that, and should just get better eventually)… Mine’s reasonably mild, and it’s still *#~% nasty!
Few things get my sympathy like back problems. I hope your hubby is feeling better soon, Moooooom and doesn’t need another surgery. It’s good the pottery class is going well and I hope you’ll post pics of your clay fishie for us.
May you be on the mend soon too, gotti.
That funeral sounds like a wonderful and moving tribute, swampy. Once again, condolences on your loss.
Yay Paula! Keep at it and we might be calling you twiggy someday!
You deserve major kudos for helping clean up from the flooding, kope. Yoi! Totally above & beyond the call in my book.
I had no idea you were nuts about juggling, Fill! I hope you have fun at the convention!
Well today’s sammich supper was the last of my balogna with some Colby cheese & mayo, a kisher dill on the side. Tomorrow might be the last of my Colby in a cheese sammich and I still have a couple of pickles left too. We’ll see.
The landlord’s son left a message on my phone saying the plumber will be here Saturday to replace my can. I need to give the bathroom a major cleaning first. Maybe I should celebrate the new pot by stocking up on some TP? Maybe the swanky kind with the lotion? After all, I am down to a mere four rolls.
Anyway we’re a day closer to the weekend. Yay!

I had to take a library book back yesterday and I remembered your remark about the Julia Child book, GT, so I went upstairs and looked and there it was. So now I am reading along with you. Looks like a very interesting read, not only because I loved Julia Child, (although I don’t much care for French cooking), but because I’m old enough to remember Eisenhower, Adlai Stevenson, and Joe McCarthy, or, as I call him, Karl Rove’s illegitimate father.
Got a call a few minutes ago from one of the local B&Bs. They desperately need 200 little bars of soap and 30 of the bigger bars! Tomorrow morning!
I’d better quit screwing off and get to cutting and labelling.
Laters.

The second was several hundred topless wimmin holding a protest like the one Spaz avoided a couple weeks ago inside an apartment I was renting.

You say that like it was a bad thing…
Still blurf. The insomnia’s back. I have a special brand of it. I can spend 5 hours not sleeping and as soon as the sun starts to come up, I’m out like a light and can barely function if I wake up before the sun sets. The stupid sleeping pills aren’t even working.
So, I have 2 options - either I go back on a night schedule or I try to stay up for over 36 hours til I’m so tired that I can sleep at night - trying to jumpstart the night sleeping thing again. I love school and I’m glad that getting my degree will most likely mean I never have to work in a factory again but I have to admit that I miss working nights. When I get my degree I’ll just have to find a morgue that operates at night. Creepy.
The mosquitoes are getting to be worse than ever. We’ve had so much rain that the whole state is saturated to the point of being the perfect breeding ground for the little bastards. They’ve been swarming my back door so every time I let the dogs out, more come in the house. But, I can’t complain too much because at least it’s raining here and we’re not in a drought. Then again, West Nile was found fewer than 5 miles from my house about a month ago.
CatDude - Congratulations! That’s wonderful news!
Nava - I used to have a bank like that and it pissed me off. I got a new bank. My bank is now open 7 days a week and the only thing about them that annoys me is that I can’t deposit my own checks into my sweetie’s bank account any more because of some new system they have. Dumb. I don’t get checks often but when I do, they go to him. I don’t imagine that TDBank is in Spain though so this information doesn’t help you at all. Sorry
VunderBob (I can’t remember your nickname) - I’ve been having bizarre dreams lately too. Yesterday I dreamed that my boyfriend and my ex-brother-in-law smoked pot together and then made lunch by putting a bunch of pressurized cans in the microwave of a local diner. I caught it before they exploded though. My boyfriend has never smoked pot and he hates my ex-BIL (who lives about 1000 miles away anyway).
Last night I dreamed that my sister and her ex-husband (who was actually my other sister’s ex) were living in my house to share custody of their daughter. Then there was a huge fight and I kicked my sister out and kept my ex-BIL and niece at my house (even though my ex-BIL is an abusive bastard and I hate him). Finally came to my senses and kicked the jerk out and let my sister back in and we all went to some street fair in Virginia, where a random stranger gave me a quarter with a picture of Elvis on it.
I have no idea why I’m mixing up my sisters’ ex-husbands. Hell, I have no idea why I’m even dreaming about my sisters’ ex-husbands in the first place. And, what was with the Elvis quarter? I’m not an Elvis fan or a coin collector.
I also had the dream about the Zombie Vampires but that’s a normal dream for me.
I am starting to long for the days of not remembering my dreams.
Din din last night was pork loin with an herb rub, scalloped potatoes, and peas. Din din tonight is leftover night. We have 2 small pieces of chicken with Southwestern herbs, meatball grinders, and the leftovers from last night which were supposed to be my lunch today.
What could possibly cause a B&B to need that much soap all at once? Since I’m new here…you make soap? What kind?
Just for the record, I make goooooooooood quiche. One ham and spinach, one fake crab and mushroom.
I’s stuffded.
Temps have plummeted to mid 60s, and they’re still falling. Yay!!
It was, hence use of bizarre as an adjective.
A high of 58 today brrrrrrrrr
I am a single girl for the next few days. mr ems has gone to visit his momma. What should I cook this weekend?
Other than that very quiet round here
Ooh, if it was me ems, I wouldn’t cook. I’m perfectly content with a bowl of steamed peas or something like that. Seriously, when my husband was an OTR trucker, I rarely cooked a meal for myself. I just ate salad, or steamed some veggies. Once in awhile, I’d make myself some kind of stir fry dish.
On the other hand, I have to cook…a lot… so, I look forward to not having to cook.
taters I was bordering on the side of ordering pizza
I said I would make chili for Sunday so he can re-heat some when he comes in. Not worth cooking for one really…
Worked, came home, made dinner. for me and roomie. Tested a bit with “just friend”
Taters, I love to cook. and clean. And alphabetize spices. and yet I’m still single.:dubious:
congo, my dreams typically run towards the "sungod robe with pickles"type. Hope yours get normal.
gotti, hope you get the back gets better. I’d rather have my arthritis than back issues.
No. No, you wouldn’t. Trust me. They’re equally awful.
mmmmmmmmm, eat something he hates!
I make what’s called cold-process soap, a.k.a. lye soap.
I sell to about 6 B&Bs and they usually buy 2 to 4 months worth of soap at a time.
They are required by law to throw the used soap away when guests check out, so they want little bars. My little bars are about 0.8 ounces and are good for a day or three at best. My half bars are about 2.4 ounces and are good for about a week. They go to the rental cabins owned by the same person who ownes the B&B I made the little bars for, since she rents the cabins by the week.
Mmmmmmmmm, I suggest haggis.
Glad you found the book, Bumba. Hope you like it. I was born while Eisenhower was still president, but the first president I remember (and only just barely) is Kennedy. I’ll look forward to hearing what you think about it.
Hmmmm, apparently I was still tired when I got home, even though I slept quite well last night. I started to cook some rice, sat down to watch a show online, and woke up more than an hour later. Fortunately, I had the rice on super low heat, so the bottom got kind of crusty, but nothing burned. Went for a walk, but I’ve been kind of groggy all evening. I’m hoping this doesn’t mean that I’ll be awake all night. I’m already up past my bedtime, but I’m pretty yawny, so I hope I’ll be able to fall asleep soon.
Read everything, but not much stuck, I’m afraid, so **rosie’s **sig and extra hugs for all.
