A week from tomorrow we leave for Knoebels. A week from today we’re having a “stress test” at work and I am being asked to work a double. What the heck - afterwards I’ll have 5 days to rest up.
Y’all miss me? I have the regional accounting supervisor visiting me until Friday to observe my processes and help make the interface transition a little easier. She really knows her stuff and I like her. Just have not had a spare minute to post or lollygag at all. She is cutting into my mumping time and my lollygagging time. Plus Lucky Louie has been on vacay since she has been here. I can’t wait until Firday when my boy can get back to irk.
Glad FCD got home safely. Congrats Nuts on new gig and Sunny I hope the improvement continues. To everyone else Rosie’s sig.
The only upside to the TV passing beyond the rim is the price for it’s replacement has come crashing down like an errant soviet era satellite. Check warehouse clubs and Amazon for deals. Also look at the deals of the day at io9.
If you know anyone good with electronics, give them the remains–the odds are that a dollar of caps went sideways, an easy repair for those who know which end of a soldering iron to grab.
Majorly weird dream last night, even for me. We were on a cruise (ours is barely 3 weeks away!!
) and going thru the buffet line. At the station where they normally have a roast or ham being carved to order, there was a roasted dog - literally an entire dog, like a golden retriever except it was chocolate brown, and its hide was pulled back so the chef could carve the meat. People all around were all excited. I passed that station and got to the end of the line where they had the bread - a bunch of grocery store breads still in plastic bags. Definitely not the quality buffet one expects on a cruise ship.
Apart from that weirdness, I slept well. We got close to 3" of rain yesterday and they’re forecasting something over a half an inch today. It’s too cool to turn on the a/c and too warm for the heater, so the house is just damp and uncomfortable. Definitely looking forward to Saturday’s sun!
And with that, I need to start my work day. Happy Thursday!
we’ve got dreary rainy through the weekend. blurf!
Up early again. It’s trash day and I’ve got a full container to put out on the curb. I also got my annual property tax bill, it surprisingly didn’t change from last year, so I presume they haven’t re-evaluated my property value, just sent out the same old, same old. Works for me.
Next week the schools in this part of Ali-bama are on fall break, all the kids will be home 3-7 October, and lots of folks take a short vacation, which is great for them but makes getting enough players for my soccer team a bit hard. Looks like enough are staying in town so we can do it, but it’s going to be close.
Butters, hang in their, at least you seem to get along with the regional folks, I’ve seen times when the relationship wasn’t good and it ain’t pretty.
Oh, and Blurf.
Hopeful dance of happiness for Nuts.
I’ve been getting so many calls from agents it’s kind of ridiculous. At this rate my officemates will riot and declare Johannes Brahms persona non grata, my tone is his Hungarian Dance No. 5
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN 'Tis <snerk> 69! <snerk> Amurrkin out and cloudy with a predicted high of 91 and mostly sunny for the day. Tonight’s low is predicted to be 58. Well, BRRRRRR! The big plan today is to get the doo did. Dindin will be various leftovers cause, well, they need to be et up.
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then I suppose I should purtify for the general public. The place I get my doo did does not open until ten this mornin’ so I have all kinds of time.
Happy Thursday Y’all!
Happy Thorsday!
Another rainy day, and as FCM said, not hot enough to turn on the AC and not cold enough to turn on the heat.
The cat finally ran back upstairs to hide in the hall.
He’s kind of funny though, every time he runs past me, he pauses, looks me in the face, and meows.
Nothing special to do today. SSDD.
Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Gonna go to Training Camp before work.
Welcome back, Butters!
A chocolate brown golden retriever; how awful! I agree that’s not the quality I’d expect from a buffet, I mean, why aren’t they serving, say, pugs?
First of four (at least) days of rain. Iffn it doesn’t look better by Day 5, I’ll start perusing the inturwebz for ark plans.
Either “This is all your fault!” or, “You have to sleep sometime.”
Perhaps both. :dubious:
Is he making progress?
I use the 1812 Overture finale. ![]()
Hopefully, I get callers today who didn’t gulp down the entire bottle of extra-strength dumbass. Tomorrow, we do an early day. Ugh. (Normal hours are 9-6, but when the last calendar day of the month falls on a weekday, hours get moved to 5-2.) At least I get paid today.
Didn’t normally participate in MMPs back when I was a regular, but got a few things to share just for laughs.
My application for permanent residency here in Sweden, which I sent in back in late February, has finally reached the desk of a case worker. It could mean a swift resolution, or up to another six months of waiting. Hoping for the former, but we’ll see.
Took the test for certified Swedish to English translator last Wednesday for the fourth year running. The texts are simple, but that never means easy. Still, I felt very good about my efforts and hope this is the year. Will find out in December.
And, finally, just landed a contract for a book translation with Verso, a British publisher of radical and revolutionary literature. The book in question is a political biography of Karl Marx, and the contract has a rather attractive set of zeroes attached to it. Will be collaborating closely with the author on it, and it should be published sometime in early 2018. I actually have another contract with a Dutch publisher for a smaller book (and that with another nice set of zeroes on it) but they’re still waiting to hear from a Russian foundation about the grant money.
Either way, this will be a good start to going back to freelance. My big break has pretty much come in.
Cool.
Does a translator usually work with the author?
That’s a good question. This is only my second book translation in some twenty years so I don’t know how things usually go. I can only imagine that the collaboration would generally be productive, since both are committed to seeing a translation of high quality.
That is, of course, assuming that the author is still alive.
A noob Mumper from Sweden. What’s the protocol for initiation in this international case? Break out the squid, give the goat the day off but summon in a reindeer as a substitute?
Ruble, please check Geneva Convention documentation on this.
You’ll need to answer to your [del]Delta Tau Chi[/del] nickname. I propose Viking Zero.
Forgive Spiderman, Olentzero.
He is in therapy, but it looks like he skipped his meds again.
Howdy Y’all! I am now all coiffed. OK my doo looks like it did just shorter. Still, feels good.
Spidey I say we shorten it down to just Viking. Speakin’ of which, cool on the translation contracts and the buncha zeros attached to it!
OMG - today’s free lunch is great! The box lunch is a sub (I got roast beef) with chips and a cookie. They also had pickles, but I’m not a big pickle fan. Anyway, it’s free, bought with the profits of our snack cabinet. YUM!!
