The Independence Day MMP

BooFae but if she moves her appointment she will miss her usual visit with the regulars.

I’m off to get my car serviced. Wheeeeeeee!

No plans for the Fourth.

Independence Day is almost the only holiday I celebrate in any way. I’ve been doing this “ritual” since July 4, 1972, so this will be number 47.

Always, read the Declaration of Independence slowly, aloud, and stopping often to think over what I have read; sometimes I rewind and read a phrase, sentence, or paragraph again.

Often, I read the Constitution, also slowly and aloud and with pauses to think about something. Sometimes I also read aloud the Articles of Confederation, and a few times the Constitution of the Confederate States of America, both for comparison and reflection.

My neighbors will explode a year’s salary in fireworks starting about dark (and until midnight or so). I sit on my front porch and watch it all as I lift a pint or six.

Happy Independence Day to all!

Come visit us in Pittsburgh some day. I remember this hot August night right after we got our first place on Woodlawn. I woke up hearing shots in the distance and thinking “now who the heck would poach deer in this heat?” It wasn’t deer. Now as long as the crime scene tape doesn’t block my garage I don’t even think twice about it.

I’ll probably do what I do every year, which is along the lines of:
Watch the Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest on ESPN
Inspired by that, I’ll then eat more than my usual share of hot dogs for lunch - usually a full 12-ounce package, but instead of regular buns, I cut up a Sourdough loaf (similar to a loaf of French bread), scoop out most of the insides, and cut it into enough pieces to use as hot dog buns – lesson learned a long time ago; it’s not the dogs that get you - it’s the buns
Watch the July 4 episode of The Price is Right, which is pretty much the last new episode before the new season starts in September (CBS used to air a “back to school” episode for college-age kids in mid-August; this year, they’re not, but an episode that was supposed to air last week has been moved to August, possibly because it includes a trip to Japan and there was a reasonably large earthquake there recently)
At 5:00 (Pacific time), watch the Boston Pops concert and fireworks live (it’s on Bloomberg - decades ago, it aired on A&E, then CBS got the rights to it but only aired the last 30 minutes of the concert plus the 30 minutes of fireworks that follow)
The concert should be over before NBC gets to the New York City fireworks on its show
Then, at 9:30, watch the local fireworks outside my window - I would watch it outdoors on my balcony, but the fireworks tend to be shot low, and there’s a giant tree in the way

I just canned 11 quarts, and 1 pint, of dill pickles. There will be more. I do this for friends. A friend of my daughter wants me to make her a batch, as well. I haven’t even done the housework, or the laundry, yet. Bah.

Howdy, Just coming here to say how much I have Windows 10. All my desktop icons have disappeared and I have had no luck restoring them. Arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrgggggggggggggggg. Hate it.

We might have found a new (used) car for me! As part of refinancing our house, we took some equity to replace Romeo’s and my cars. We decided to upgrade Romeo’s just by a few years to something in better condition and wait to get a much nicer one. Since I do most of the family driving, we’re upgrading my car to something newer. I’ve decided that I like the Equinox; big enough, but not too big. My father-in-law found really promising one that we’re going to check out tonight. Fingers crossed!

Home, thoroughly exhausted. That is all. :stuck_out_tongue:

Don’t care for this holiday much anymore. Will likely stay home with one or more small dogs in my lap and watch TV.

Butters, “In old country, windows have you
Earlier versions of windoze used to do that sometimes if you had too many icons on your desktop. It would get confused and refuse to play with you anymore. Don’t know that that info will be much help in your situation though.

Swampy, (or anyone else, even), do you have a recipe for pimento cheese you’d be willing to share? Does it have cayenne in it? Have you ever made it with peppadews instead of pimento?
The reason I ask is that the deli at Fred’s makes it and it’s really good but for some inexplicable reason it gives me a bellyache. I’d like to make my own without any strange and unusual ingredients.

Happy Moonday y’all.

Howdy Y’all! I did finish spiffin’ da cave today due to it bein’ cloudy, then rainy out this afternoon. We even had a tboomer. We swiped The General’s sup.

Ruble HEE! I say Yogi would get that cooler open in no time. He’d just see it as a fancier version of a pic-a-nic basket.

Midget glad you survived.

Bumba ummm… it’s called pimento cheese for a reason. Substitute another pepper and it becomes [insert name of pepper] cheese. :stuck_out_tongue: Anywho, for me it’s extra sharp cheddar cheese, pimentos, mayo and black pepper. No exact measurements, just mixed up to taste. Cayenne pepper is also OK but I prefer ground black pepper. Another really good thing is to use roasted red peppers (slow roasted and brushed with olive oil). Then it becomes red bell pepper cheese. You can find all kinds of recipes for fancified pimento cheese, but I like it basic.

wet one, I don’t have horses (my lease doesn’t allow anything over 100 lbs, which in 560 square feet, would be pushing it) but my friends who are hosting the party do.

butters, you have my deepest sympathy with Windows10.

I’ve only ticked one of the items on the to do list today. I didn’t realize that the recycling center was closed on Mondays, so that one will have to wait until tomorrow.

I fixed a fusion fried chicken tonight that went well with last evening’s leftovers. It’s kind of like Nashville hot chicken goes to Calcutta. The marinadt has peppers that would melt paint in and of themselves (I actually got a dust mask from the tool box because deseeding them got me all choked up), Indian spices and bunches of fresh cilantro and mint from the patio. The buttermilk kinda tempered the heat, but it’s still plenty spicy.

Look, for me; I’ll be there, somewhere.
When I left irk, I put the winders down as I walked up to the car. (I had left all moveable glass cracked so it wouldn’t be too hot in there, sitting in the middle of the asphalt parking lot.) I got in & turned the car on & the thermo read 108°!!!
After a bit of driving, it dropped all the way to…98°; at the red light, I pulled out my phone & looked; NWS stated the somewhat-nearby airport was only 96°, so I do feel my car’s thermo was accurate.
I stopped at the Maul on the way home; walking past Vicky’s Not Telling there was a woman coming out; she noticed I was looking at her footwear (open in the back, open toes, & furry across the top, IOW, bedroom slippers). She asked me what I thought of them; I just shook my haid slowly from side to side.
I ended up walking past her again upstairs; couldn’t avoid eye contact. :o
Exclusive video of Swampy (or his cousin) in the hawt cement pond.

When I got out of work, it was 93 degrees. At 9:15 at night.:dubious: Shorter day tomorrow.

Ruble, it was like that back when I lived in the Hood. “M80, legal fire work, legal firework, 6 rounds .45ACP in a snitch…”

Glad you’re better, Midget.

Batkid, cool! I don’t have any photos from back then. Not that it matters, the Statute of Limitations has run out…for most things.

CharmaChameleon, sounds like a damn fine way to spend Independence Day. And welcome. Your [del]Delta Tau Chi[/del]Mumper name is George.

CharmaChameleon is not of the jungle; therefore, I propse Color Shifter, or just Shifty for short.

Shifty! I like it.

Took the car to get serviced today. This was my big accomplishment. I must do many more things tomorrow. All of the things. I’m starting to Freak. Out. about the move. :frowning:

Well Da Jungle was -------- interesting. We had lightning around us so even though we had trailers in the yard, the yard was shut down and we couldn’t put them on the door. And then when we were able to get them on the door the decision had been made to send everyone home. I was on Trailer Dock and Release duty so much of my night was fiddling-work while TPTB did brain-stuff. So now basically we have a 10k bonus of packages to move tomorrow. Ya just gotta laugh sometimes.

Well, I’m up. It’s entirely too early. After some coffee, I suppose I should get all the hovelwork done, that I failed to do yesterday. At the moment, I’m just trying to wake up enough to function somewhat properly.

Tomorrow will be the third birthday of our dogs, Shayna & Poe. They are Husky-mix rescue mutts. Brother and sister. I plan on making them some pupcakes. I lurves our puppies, and they deserve pupcakes, damnit. So, that’s on the agenda for the 4th. I’ll most likely be slipping a calm-the-hell-down-pill, into one of Shayna’s pupcakes, though.

Time to make my coffee, and get the day underway. I foresee a nap in my future.

Happy Toosday!

It’s going to be another hot day in the 90s. It’s dark and 72 degrees out now.
It’s supposed to rain tomorrow, not that I want it to rain on anybody’s parade, but if it keeps the drunk neighbors’ celebration indoors I will be happy.

Today is pick up groceries day and trim the dog’s toenails day.
I have to put the last load from the washer into the dryer this morning or else I will have to wrap myself in a sheet to pick up the groceries.
That would not be a good thing. The toga look doesn’t work so well on me.

It’s going to be a busy day today, although nothing special.

Ripple is still limping but there is no swelling or heat, and I can squeeze his leg and paw without him reacting. I think we need to make him give his paw a rest, but that is not easy.

I feel for you** Sunny**. I hate to move, and every time I swore it would be the last time.

I need to know - what are pupcakes?

Happily, I got good sleep last night. I feel almost human this morning, plus I don’t have to come back here til Moanday, so that’s a bonus! Last night, I was able to remote into the server at work which means I can do all the drafting I need to do for **FCD **from home. YAY!!

When I get home tonight, there will be eggs to boil. And that pretty much sums up my day.

Happy Tuesday!!

Up ,caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to work, laundromat after work. It’s 76 out, an 97% humidity.

Do it!.
