The "Is anyone else actually watching the Grammys" Thread

It was? Dammit, our Tivo claimed otherwise so we cancelled the recording.

For me it just made me appreciate Janis all the more. Neither of them could hold a candle to her.
I thought the Lynyrd Skynyrd tribute was for the most part pretty good, but Gretchen Wilson was horribly off-key throughout the whole thing. Keith Urban sounded great though, and I normally hate that guy.

Seconded! I had heard all the hype about Kanye West and wanted to see how he performed. When they did the Gospel thing I thought, OK, Let’s see if he can sing.

Nope. On top of that, when the **** did rap suddenly become Gospel? I couldn’t take it and went to the bathroom during the last part of it, which I heard wasn’t too bad. But his dancing in a later set reminded me of earlier M Jackson-type showmanship. That part I liked.

And Queen Latifa. Ugh. I like her music for the most part and her acting is often enjoyable.

But I absolutely loathe jazz. I don’t get it, I can’t stand it, and I’m perfectly happy to leave it that way. That performance left me not only more hardened in my hatred of the genre, but it cost The Queen a few respect points in my book.
Also, who was the prick at the end giving his empty speech about the musicians not helping tsunami victims out of ego? The guy pissed me off so much in his phoniness that I almost had to Pit him. They weren’t helping to boost their egos? Then why the hell are you talking about it?!? Mention that many Americans are helping the relief effort and more can be done and leave it at that.

That asshole was the first to give a more shallow speech than Bono. That’s saying a lot.

It’s not gospel. But the song is called “Jesus Walks” and it really is about faith, so I don’t think it was at all inappropriate. Same message, just a different way of getting it across.

Are you sure the MJ-esque dancing you saw wasn’t Usher?

I’m so confused. I don’t even understand what you’re saying. Are you saying their egos are keeping them from helping the Tsunami victims? Or, are you saying that their egos are what’s motivating them to do something?

Quite frankly, I thought the song pretty much blew chunks. If they really wanted to help the tsunami victims, I’d like to see them dig into their own pockets and donate some of the millions of dollars they already make from the consumers. That would certainly be a lot better than releasing a really crap version of a classic song.

The second part. At least that’s what I saw the blathering referring to. Of course, I have no idea what point the jag-off was talking about, so little chance even I’ll know exactly what I’m asking as I’m still confused about the whole charade.

I can’t tell you much about him as I only know of him from the Grammy Awards shows of the last two years, but his name is Neil Portnow and he’s the president of the Recording Academy, whatever that is.
