The "I've finished the rhubarb pies" MMP

I’m just glad there was some Ativan left over from DH’s meds. Apparently it has anti-nausea effects, but right now, I’m exploiting its anti-overwhelming stress effects. Not quite blissed out, but at least I’m not looking to strangle anyone.

Haven’t heard from the mortuary yet, but DH should be ready to pick up today or tomorrow.

There’s a very un-publicized charitable agency that claims to serve employees where I work. They claim to be able to help with final expenses, so I put in a claim. Thing is that they’re so slow and they can only pay a vendor/creditor directly that it’s almost useless. I had to pay the mortuary last week to get the process started, and the charity contacted me yesterday and said since I’d paid already, they can’t reimburse me.

WE HAVE ACHIEVED THUNDERBOOMERS!!!
and in case I didn’t hear it myself, Smokey just ran haphazardly around the apartment.

Yes
although some Dunkin Donuts sound good right now

and who could ever resist a Destroyer Device of any type?

Got a phone call I don’t want to deal with, from an ex-friend who not only left a message but sent a text telling me she left one. I don’t want to be rude to her but I just don’t care to talk to her anymore.

… aaaaaaaand the storm’s gone.

Howdy Y’all! Hump Day has been survived. YAY! Only one more for me this week cause I’m takin’ Firday off. Matter of fact I am takin’ the next three Firdays off to use up paid leave. I shall start dindin when OYKW shows up as 'twill not take long to make a stir fry.

gotti just damn. Hope somethin’ breaks for ya soon.

I prefer Krispy Kreme myself. We have KK and DD here and I say KK is way better.

All this time I thought flytrap was a guy. :smack: :o
We had cake (which I didn’t eat) earlier for a wedding shower & just got back from Thank You ice cream in the other building; currently sitting like Homer Simpson in a food coma. Is it beer-o’clock yet?

Knew there was something I liked about you, swampy.

Took a nap this PM, to rest up for the lawn mowage due to take place this evening. I bag it, and the way it has been growing this week (lots of rain on the weekend, lots of sunshine since), I suspect my usual ‘two bags full’ will be augmented considerably.

Bought another new pair of athletic shoes, in the past I’ve only had one pair, now I find myself with three. Guess maybe I should get off my butt and start doing things?

Fortunately, the mortuary is willing to accept whatever comes from the charity, then bounce it over to me. Looks like the recent holiday delayed everything, particularly the filing of death certificates, and he won’t be ready until Friday. Not that I’m in a rush, but I’m surprised that a one-day holiday could have such an impact on the process.

Next in the series of how the universe is messing with me is that I bought doors for the bookshelves in my office. Unfortunately, somewhere along the way, Ikea changed the Billy series and the doors sold now don’t fit the shelves sold then. Now I need to lug 100+ pounds of doors back downstairs, strap them onto the car (vs just lay them in the bed of the truck I no longer have) and drive back to a little corner of Bay Area traffic hell.

Or do I keep the doors and buy the new shelves that they fit, then sell the old ones on craigslist?

I’m thinking buying the new shelves might be easier on you, especially if you can order online and have them shipped.

[offering hugs, purring cat, and chocolate chip cookies]

Dindin was good if’n I do say so myself. I say so a lot. I’m a good cook.

I liked the Dr, but I wasn’t too impressed with the practice. I showed up at 2:10 for my 2:30 appointment. I wasn’t given the paperwork till 2:30, and I wasn’t called back till 3:10. I saw the Dr about 5 minutes later, then I sat another 20 minutes, waiting for x-rays. In all, I was there almost 2 hours!!!

Diagnosis: probable irritation of the rotator cuff due to a possible bone spur in the shoulder. He said it was entirely possible that sleeping in an awkward position was the cause of the irritation. He prescribed a course of steroids to beat down the inflammation along with exercises. If it doesn’t get better, he wants me back in 4 weeks. I like that he has a conservative approach - never even mentioned surgery, unlike the last Dr I saw who was talking surgery right off. So we shall see how the meds and exercises do.

We went to Kevin’s for supper, since it’s fried chicken night. Tomorrow, the pressure washers come clean our house. And that’s pretty much it for today.

Except that it’s been gloriously cool and breezy and the house has been open since last night! Yay!!

I got a haircut, went to the airport to watch planes come in, and bought a tote at Tar-Jay. Now it’s martini time.

I suddenly wish to purchase a 3 pounder.

{{{{gotti}}}}

FCM, I hate steroids. They make me crazy.

swampy, I prefer KK ,too.

Fifty years ago, at this moment as I type, the tornado sirens were going off in Topeka. At the time it was just a “big” tornado, not it would be an EF5. Went right through the middle of time, destroyed much of the university, many homes and businesses, but narrowly missed the Capitol building the downtown, and the hospitals. I was eleven and sheltered under the bed with my sisters and mother, in our basement.

I remember watching “Lost in Space” and being upset at break ins for weather updates.

You know the TV journalist Bill Kurtis? He was on the air at WIBW TV, interning during the summer while a law student at Washburn University. His calm on air demeanor, and the words “For God’s sake, take cover!” are credited with saving many lives. It also brought him to the network’s notice, and his career was changed forever.

My father was even closer, being near downtown at a meeting at church. The meeting people were in the basement already, and kept hearing a "rushing mighty wind sound. When they went outside and looked to the east Dad says “the sky was black with debris.”

Thankfully we were all okay. Nobody in our family suffered losses, but we knew a lot of people who did.

MOOOOOOM glad things went well at the doc and hopin’ the prescribed treatment works.

CupCakes I know it’s just my twisted prevert of a mind thinkin’ this, but I keep thinkin’, “rushing mighty wind sound” at church only happens fifty days after Easter.

:stuck_out_tongue:swampie, I did have that in mind, which is why I used the phrase!

I wonder sometimes what episode of Lost in Space I was watching, before the tornado hit. I lived and breathed that show, but now when I see old episodes it’s SO corny.

No bio of Bill Kurtis is complete without mentioning that night.

Doggio, does RDU have a good plane-watching spot? There used to be a designated area in St. Louis when I lived there, right under the pattern, and I spent many an hour there. Loved Saturday mornings when the National Guard would be taking off for exercises (initially F4’s, then later F15’s).

Then they tore it out to put in a third runway for the increased traffic TWA was going to bring in…then TWA was sold to American, who pulled 80% of the flights out of St. Louis.

FCM, hope the treatment helps.

Baker, scary story on the tornado. Huntsville has a big one hit every 10-20 years, the last one was in 2011, it hit west of the city about 10 miles from my house and knocked out power for a week.

Lawn is mowed and managed to get the clippings into two bags (albeit 30-gallon ones and they are full). Only bad thing is I forgot to bulk up on my foot protection and blistered the back of my ankles pretty good. Hopefully they’ll heal by Firday.

That’s because I signed up for 5 soccer games this weekend (tournament starts Firday) and may add 1-2 more if needed.

There’s an observation deck overlooking Runway 23L and a restaurant/observation deck overlooking Runway 23R. And Marine Corps Harriers occasionally stop by the General Aviation side for a fuel up and a potty break.

metal mouse, I remember that tornado. I took my pickup down to help a friend haul (small) logs from the downed trees at his place.

Growing up in the Midwest, it was an annual rite of spring heading to the basement when there was a tornado warning. Although I don’t remember it, I sat out the Palm Sunday tornado of '65 hunkered down in my aunt’s basement nex4to the coal furnace. I rode another out when I was 11 in the basement of a family friend and came upstairs to very little house left.

I’m up at zero-dark-thirty because of reasons. I suspect that the large grey cat draped over my arm has a lot to do with it.

Couple things. FCM, hopefully the steroids and exercises will help. Steroids make me crazy, too, but they WORK! The week of crazy is worth no pain.

BatKid, go for the advanced program. Trust me on this. I’ve got two master’s degrees myself, and they’ve been fairly helpful at least in getting the interview, if not the job.

So we’ve hit another roadblock on our journey to home ownership. The only thing left was to get homeowner’s insurance. We don’t have that, and I’d rather stay local, so I called an agency to get a quote. Found one for less than $600. So far, so good, right? I got a call back from the nice agent to tell me that because the furnace is so old, they might not be able to write a policy. :smack: No insurance means no mortgage which means no house. The agent thinks we might be able to get insurance if we pinky-swear to replace the furnace in a few years, which I’d been told would probably have to happen anyway. But she made no guarantees and their guy is going to have to check it out and take pictures and then the insurance company will make a decision. Other than that, our nefarious plan is continuing apace.

Got Airman’s student loans sorted out, too, as a bonus. The recertification for his payment plan was due on the 27th, so that’s done. (The servicer is slow as hell, so it’s wise to do it in advance of that date so they can’t screw it up.)

Blurf.

Hello all. The night before last my friend that had been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer just six weeks ago landed back in the hospital when the bleeding ulcer that originally started all this with the diagnosis started bleeding again. She was given multiple blood transfusions, put into ICU, intubated, sedated and very nearly died. So I spent the night before last a mess, in tears knowing it was almost over for her. Yesterday while in the middle of a job interview I received a text message from her. She was awake and breathing on her own. I broke down right in front of the interviewee. The interviewee is a friend so it was Ok.

Yesterday I had credit card refresher training at 0800 and it was supposed to be an hour. It turned into 3 hours. Once back at the office there was a fire alarm at the Child Center across the street so we took in a bunch of cribs with babies. You put 40+ infants that have been woke from their naps in a room and boy oh boy what a racket they made.

I get home finally around 5 pm. Hubs has gone with a friend to KW. The friend called me and said hubs was not felling well, was having visual disturbances and seemed confused  I told him to bring him on home. I packed a bag and was fully expecting to take him immediately to Miami to the emergency room where his Dr is. He got home, refused to go and said he was just tired. SMH.

This is part of the rhythm problem and he is wearing a heart monitor for another 2 1/2 weeks then we go back to see if he needs a pacemaker. Now hubs is mad at his friend.

It was rainy all day yesterday and with all this going on it may have been a good thing we did not go to Miami as I hadn’t had much sleep the night before. We shall see what the day brings today.
