The Joys of Having Grass in the MMP

Happy Moonday!

Happy Belated Birthday Dicey!

Chilly 26 degrees at the park this morning. Only two people and three dogs showed up.
It didn’t feel so bad out there, and it’s supposed to get up close to 60 today.
I hope that will melt the rest of the ice.

We’ve got mice again. I’m not surprised because they have been steadily cleaning out my neighbor’s house, the mice are going to go somewhere. We had one in the trap two days ago, a dead one in the middle of the kitchen floor yesterday, and I saw one run across the kitchen this morning. I don’t know if Adam or Ripple killed the mouse. I think Ripple because there was no damage to the mouse. But he usually barks at them after they are dead, he wants them to get up and run so he can keep playing with them, and I never heard him barking.
My park friend suggested I get more cats, he has some that need homes, but my dogs play too rough.

I guess we will be dealing with unemployment again today. I promised my son that if I talk to them, I won’t get nasty or snarky. I forgot to call Best Buy last week, there is a charge on my account that I have no idea what it is. I also have a package coming today that I have to deal with. I was going to order something online, and I filled out all the info, but I never hit send. Well, it’s going to be delivered today. I’m a bit annoyed at that, but if I like it, I’ll keep it.

I need to order groceries today to pick up tomorrow. It won’t be a huge order, but it will be enough to be annoying.

I suck at decorating. It doesn’t help that I really like Boho/Victorian, but I hate clutter, and dusting.
I also like Japandi.
Bit of a conflict there.
My walls are bare, no pictures or art anywhere. No curtains except in the living room. I can’t find anything I like and so I never got any. All the windows have shades so privacy isn’t an issue.

Annoyances abound, but I know it’s more internal than external. Issues with my mother that I thought were resolved long time ago are resurfacing.

Ooopsie, that is what we called a day night pearl. They were very popular in the 70s.

And back. Good news about my bloodwork, so yay! Not so great about my weight, but I knew that - it’s been a bad few months. She had more blood drawn today to check if I have rheumatoid arthritis or just osteo - I think she’ll be ordering xrays for me, too - my hands are starting to look like my grandmother’s. Plus this year, I’m due for a colonoscopy, but she’s letting me do the mail-in test. There’s no history of colon cancer in the family, and I’ve had 3 scopings done with no bad news, so yay. Next time, I’ll go all in, so to speak.

I got McLunch - meh. Now I’m home waiting for FCD to return - should be any time. He went to Annapolis to get some mahogany to make the name plates for the boat. Stuff is dang expensive…

Guess I should don grubbies so I can feed my azaleas.

@Misnomer

Thanks for the compliment. I love working with batiks. On West Side Story: Unlike the original film, this cast actually does their own singing. The casting is perfect, and the screenplay is a very nice refresh. Note: The girl playing Maria, Rachel Zegler, is making her screen debut. She has an amazing voice, as does Ansel Elgort as Tony. Mike Faist redefines Riff. I am sure you will enjoy this.

Yep, that’s what my mom always called it. I know she didn’t get it in the '70s, though; I’m thinking maybe early '90s.

Yay, indeed! Good feeling, innit?

The longer she stays inside, the better. She’ll have a better sense that this is where home really is, if she goes out. I’m glad you’re settling in. Your house sounds lovely.

talky bummer about the tooth. If it’s not one thing, it’s another. Whatever they need to do with the tooth, I hope it is easy and over with quickly.

sari {{{hugs}}}

I suspect we’ll be having sushi for dinner. 'Beamette has voiced a craving.

We have a small lawn in the front yard. A gardener looks after that and the flower beds. The back yard is not landscaped, which is irritating. I’ve got a mental map, but who knows when we’ll get to it. My husband would like to do it all at once. I’m thinking if we could at least do sections, maybe we’d get it done. Oh well. Right now the mustard and lupin make it look pretty.

Thanks for the birthday wishes. The gift from my parents is still in the mail, so my birthday isn’t over yet.

Had a good lunch at the Greek place yesterday and got to bring home some leftovers. I could get used to that.

Hubby’s still gets easily tired, but at least he was able to work today. We have to make sure he gets fully recovered, especially since COVID is still gaining ground here.

And now we’re starting season 2 of Upload.

Happy Monday!

We are trying to get rid of our grass. Lawns aren’t really a thing here because they want so much water and attention, so we used grass killer and waited the amount of time indicated by the instructions and planted clover. It was beautiful the first year but the grass keeps wanting to come back. It’s appears to be about half grass now and we are going to kill everything again around the end of the year.

Clover doesn’t want as much water as grass, so that weakens the grass, but it also fixes nitrogen in the earth which is good for the grass. I have the feeling I will be doing battle with the grass for the rest of my life.

Do you get seed catalogs? I’ve only gotten one this winter which is really disappointing. I love seed catalogs so much that I make a point to order at least one thing from every one I get so they will send me another catalog.

I’m cutting way back this year, there are only two of us, I don’t need to have four tomato plants.

Fingers crossed for good news from the vet.

Are those working days or calendar days? Do you have the “I don’t cares” short timer attitude yet? It’s a very liberating feeling to KNOW that as long as nobody is going to die, it doesn’t matter that much.

This is very routine stuff, he might not even need to stay over night. A friend with a pacemaker once told me that he had to be careful in hardware stores because they store the magnetic sweepers head up which puts a dangerous amount of magnetism at chest height for him. Maybe warn your nephew about that, but yeah, totally routine and he’ll start feeling much better without the constant AFIP.

I recognize all of those words individually, but cannot understand the sentence, LOL! I’m also not a hot drink person, but not only do I want cold drinks, I want COLD drinks. When I was working, I would fill water bottles half way with water and then toss them in the freezer so I could fill them with water as I was getting ready for work. None of that tepid bottled water for me!

Thanks, Thumper (my new name for you). I’ll let him know.

If you kill the grass again, you might just lay some plastic sheeting over it, cover that with topsoil, and let starve it to death. The plastic will help keep it from returning. We did our back yard with cardboard and newspaper, covered with bark chips, and it was very effective. Weeds occasionally pop up but are easily dealt with.

Snert!

Most of our yard is the Arizona standard river rock over landscaping cloth, I just have that one clover patch and I do want to keep it. I like watching the butterflies dancing over the field of white flowers.

Your yard is wetter than mine, it kinda surprises me that your cardboard didn’t fall apart after a year or so.

Important IRS BULLETIN for @Chefguy , @JaneDoe42 (or your mom), et al: I see the IRS form I got says, “We contacted you about this issue, but have no record you’ve responded as required.” Since I just got a notice a week ago saying they needed more time to resolve the issue, obviously something has gone amok at the IRS. (Judging by the several extraneous commas, I’d say “the English language,” for one.)

After seeing Cookie’s post, I googled, and MANY people have been getting these false notices, according to CNN and other sources:

Imagine having filed and paid your taxes last year, then months later you get a letter in the mail from the IRS saying you didn’t.

That’s what’s happening to many taxpayers this year thanks to automated notices being sent by the IRS.

But if you got one, don’t panic. There’s a fair chance the IRS simply hasn’t seen what you already sent in. That’s because it’s dealing with a mountain of returns and correspondence that has built up over the past two years. During that time, the agency was called on to deliver several rounds of economic impact payments and other financial Covid-19 relief, while trying to protect its own workforce from Covid-19.

The good news is that you’re not likely to get another notice for awhile. The IRS announced this week that it will temporarily suspend issuing more than a dozen different types of automated notices indicating balances due, unfiled returns and other deficiencies so that it can work through its pandemic-induced backlog. [Here is the list of notices being suspended.]

TL;DR: The IRS is so backlogged, their computer has been automatically sending out delinquency notices for tax stuff that has been submitted up to TWO YEARS AGO but that it hasn’t been able to get to.

I’ll catch up with the other posts later.

Great googly moogly.

Holy cow. Thank you, I’m calling mom now.

No, but i get seed emails. Mostly, I just buy seeds or plants locally.

Been lazy since lunch. We’re going to have green salad and egg salad for supper. Guess i should make the egg salad… soon…

Holy socks, Batman! Today completely kicked my ass.

I have skimmed but am too beat to reply to y’all fine folks just now. Have some pasta in the nuker (don’t judge!) and I think shortly, imma take a nap.

Will check back in later. Just wanted to say “hi” I guess.

heh when did that happen? id like to hear the story on it

I can’t get my car serviced until Firday so my trip to the springs shall have to wait. It’s way overdue. The lawn guys will be here sometime between Thursday and Firday.

I did go out and pulled all the weeds out of my little garden. It needs more pots IMO. I also finally did my laundry. The last load is in the dryer where it will probably stay for a while as I’ve just decided I need a nap. I know it’s too late to nap but the time change has me all confused.

I made a box of rice a roni and added a bunch of cheese to it and that was breakfast and lunch.

Just saw that the UN has put the World on nuclear notice. I don’t want to be vaporized. Or worse, just radiated enough to be horribly sick and then die. What a mess.

Got link for that? (hoping this turns out to not be for real)

It was one of those blurbs that pop up on my phone. I don’t normally read or watch fix.

Actually, never. I was thinking of Ralph Williams, who was earlier than Worthington in the California market, although it’s true that Worthington opened a dealership in Anchorage during the oil boom.

Oh the cardboard is long gone, but the grass never recovered to any extent. I think the bark chips are a naturally inhospitable environment.
