The Joys of Having Grass in the MMP

Afternoon all. Got to the gym sometime after 1:30 and did 1,000 yards in the pool (if my math was good), 20 minutes in the whirlpool and 25 minutes in the sauna. Don’t know if that’s good or not, but it suited me. Then showered and gassed up car, $91.25 was the damage, good thing I only have to do it about once a month. Home now but may head over to the soccer fields to watch the littles and maybe help out if I can.

Butters, wouldn’t worry too much, Estonia is very small and right up against Russia, so they are very likely to be nervous and want their big bully of a neighbor under control. We shall see.

nellie, hope that’s all there is too it; I’ve gotten refunds the past couple years, but will be owing them a couple years down the road when I cash in some $$$ to buy a new car (probably not until 2025).

Unknown, I have an ice-maker in my refrigerator and almost always ice down my drinks. Good luck with the grass-killing effort.

FCM, the Colo-guard test is easy, pretty much do-it-yourself, the only awkward part is going into a UPS store to mail…stuff…

Sari, hope your issues, both internal and external, get resolved soon.

OK, need to check on the mail and get ready for my must-see TV (Pardon the Interruption on ESPN). Take care.

Wifey, RN came home after visiting her first patient. She said there was a small, dead raccoon by the side of the road a couple of blocks up. She said it wasn’t smashed; it just looked like it was sleeping. I decided to get my two miles in today (three times around the park and neighbourhood), so I passed it three times. It wasn’t a raccoon. It was a skunk. I felt bad for it. I don’t care for their spraying, but it doesn’t happen often. I hope there aren’t kits waiting to starve to death. :frowning:

@JaneDoe42 , that’s 53 days total. The only reason I go into the office is to talk with my friend Shari. I’ll still do the work but my heart and brain are not it. The chief nursing officer used to be my boss. Last week she told someone to email my retired colleague with a question instead of asking me. I get no respect.

The tooth is still safe in my head. Yay! Apparently it was loose enough for the dentist to say, “Yep, looks like it might be on its way out,” but not loose enough for her to help it along.

In other news, my son’s nurse coordinator called and gave us all the details for his surgery. Apparently she was given different information than the doctor gave us (which was in writing), so she blithely said, “Oh, just do what the doctor told you.” That didn’t sound right, so I called the doc and they said, “Oh, sorry - we meant he needs to have his COVID swab by the end of the day today and quarantine tomorrow and the next day. If that doesn’t happen, the surgery will be canceled. We didn’t tell you that? Oops. Our bad.” Which means that overlyboy will miss 3 tests, which he’ll have to make up in a few weeks.

So I ran him over for his brain skewering, emailed all his teachers and the school nurse, called the nurse and the school counselor and now I just need to call in an absence with the principal tomorrow. In the meantime, the doctor is faxing over the surgeon’s note. And this is why I have actual nightmares that wake me up in tears about getting screamed at about forms, guys.

When I grew up the house we were living in was the last street before a highway. One summer a skunk got hit out on the highway and the wind blew the stink right to our place. It was so bad that my father threw a shovel in the car, drove out to the place, and dug a hole to cover it up. When the song “Dead skunk in the middle of the road” came out that was what we thought of.

talky {{{hugs}}}

unknown, GG is now the size of my dog! No doubt that he’ll outpace Nelson soon.

doggio, my county has gone to medium risk, meaning masks aren’t required much of anywhere (including my irkplace), but like you, I don’t trust these denier yahoos around here and will likely wear masks when around others for quite a while.

Happy belated birthday dicey!

hippy, Ralphie is a pretty boy. I do have a question about the paper piecing of the quilt though: how do you remove the cardstock once the quilt top is pieced? I do paper quilting when I scrapbook and make cards and enjoy blocks that can be reduced to 3-4" using 1" pieces (sometimes halved or quartered).

Irked until noon, then was sent home for lack of irk. We have a late start tomorrow, so that’s more hours I’ll be short. On the good news front, my group of happy heathens is actually meeting in person for next month’s service. Most of us have been vaccinated and boosted, but will still wear masks. I’m wondering how the music will go.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

@missred
Once I get the top finished I will just work from the back of the quilt and snip the threads that hold it to the pieces and then pull the card stock out.

back of block:

Once it is all sewn together I just snip all of the red threads, pluck the loose ends and pull the card stock out

This is very cool!

Here is a section of the back where the card stock has been removed. Folding the quilt while working on it sometimes loosens the basting on its own.

Very cool!!! Thank you so much for sharing those. The finished product is going to be even more stunning than the part you show us!

I prolly won’t be checking in much over the next couple o’ weeks. This project for the university is growing. I did a 12 hour day today and yesterday, and am seeing them in my future for a while. I just need to remember to eat. The last project with this much time spent in the shop I lost about 15 lbs.

Stay safe erry one.

Maybe set alarms on your phone for things like meals/snacks?

Take care of yourself, don’t get too rundown.

That’s cool hippy! I’ve seen some blocks listed as paper quilting but was fuzzy on the concept.

Set reminders to eat VanGo. We wouldn’t want you to waste away to nothing.

Howdy Y’all! The planned activities of sloth, and general overall uselessness were accomplished. We are exhausted. Matter of fact we had to take a break from it all and day drink on the back porch this afternoon for a bit. Gin and tonics with a twist of lime so we could ward off both malaria and scurvy. We are havin’ our St. Patrick’s celebration over to the church house on Sattidy. I know that is two days after St. Paddy’s Day, but weekends are easier. Thus I have had discussion via text and email about that. The shoppin’ crew shall do their thing Wednesday afternoon. The beast briskets are already bought. Firday and Sattidy are prep/cook days and the festivities begin at five p.m. Sattidy. So, I guess I can say I was a little bit productive. Productivity, however, was by accident not design.

I’ve just ordered an extra magazine for my Walther P.1 (P.38), Why? I haven’t been to the range in like 15 years. But still, there’s an empty pocket in the holster…

Slept extra late, due to work, time change, and somebody panic barking because he thought he was alone. I made a mushroom Swiss burger with Dijon and fries and corn for dinner.

:face_with_raised_eyebrow:
But I second the food alarm.

“The true horror of surviving a nuclear war is spending the rest of your life with the people who prepared to survive a nuclear war” - Somebody on Twitter.

wordy, hope things work out, in spite of the doc screw ups.

Evening all. Did go watch the littles (4-5 year olds) play soccer; the hardest task is keeping their interest for more than, say, 20 seconds. Fortunately we have a guy who absolutely loves working with them and the kids respond to that. 30 minutes trying to help him wore me out. But the kids are cute and for some of them, it’s their first try at a sport with a gaggle of other kids. Some do well, some…are trying.

Home now and expecting rain tonight, tomorrow and 2sday night, so no soccer for that day.

Vango, take care of yourself first; I second the idea of setting some type of alarm to cue you when it is time to eat, even if it is no more than a candy bar and a Coke. Don’t make yourself sick doing this project.

talkie, hope they got all the instructions to you; sounds like the old left hand knoweth not what the right hand is doing. Best wishes to overlyboy.

Ok, getting near to bedtime, so need to finish internettin’, do some reading, and then off to Dreamland. All y’all take care.

Gotta go to the orifice mañana, 19:15 now. I’ll probably go to bed in an hour.
