The Joys of Having Grass in the MMP

Talky, best of luck with overlyboy’s surgery. I’m sure everything will go just fine. The docs may not be great at remembering to send instructions and what not, but that just means they’re focused on being good at doing surgery, you see.

When I was a kid my mom got a dishwasher. It was not built-in. It kind of looked more like a washing machine - the top flipped open and you had to remove the top rack to load the bottom rack, then put the top rack back in for glasses and such. Then you’d roll it out in front of the kitchen sink and attach it to the faucet with a hose (so the sink couldn’t be used at the same time). Man, that thing made a god-awful noise, too. It’s amazing how far things have progressed in just a few decades.

So, the Vegas trip went well. We are focused on a particular 55-and-over community in the very un-Vegas-y area of Lake Las Vegas, on the northeast edge of Henderson. We’ll likely bid on a lot when the next bunch become available, probably in a month or so. Then, construction would take about 8-10 months. Not a done deal yet, but we’re pretty set on it. Talking to our money guy next week to make sure we can make it happen. It’s kind of overwhelming but very exciting.

Heaved. did the refesher safety training. Naptime(til Gordie wakes up and starts looking for me).

nellie I’m glad to hear from you. I was worried. {{{hugs}}}

Swampy I think Madge was a lying liar, who lied…

Hippie what pattern are you doing next?

Metal Mouse I get a chuckle out of you saying that you’re off to Wake and Bake (and Shake).

talky sending you strength. Void screams welcome here.

Wheelie Your house adventure sounds very exciting! I, for one, stand ready to offer opinions on flooring options, and paint. :stuck_out_tongue:

Well, you are a dog butler. It’s right in the name.

I need to get groceries. Other than that, I will probably be a lazy person today. It looks like the next wave of COVID is starting and my brain just needs a pause. I might zone out tomorrow too, because.

My grandparents had one of those. When they had a kitchen fire in 2002, I thought they would get a built-in. Nope. Wouldn’t be covered by the insurance, and they didn’t have the extra money. So they got another one. I’ve never met anyone else with one.

I’ve never gone through the experience of buying land and building. I hope the experience is a very positive one for you.

Talking to my coworker in Shanghai, and the whole place is on house arrest. She sent me some pictures of the COVID testing going on - it’s hard to believe they’re back to that.

Had planned to take Monday off, but as hubby was sick, he has lots to catch up on. Maybe we’ll do next Monday. The weather will be nice, as it has been for the past weeks.

Except yesterday, when we had the Sahara dust. The sky was the same color you get in late summer, just before a major thunder & lightening storm. Rather unnerving to have it last all day, but we knew it was just due to the dust.

Had the gutter guy come by today. They will redo the drainage from the upstairs balconies. Last year’s hailstorm and poor drainage meant that the balcony directly above us became an ice bath. Fortunately no permanent damage, but don’t want that happening again.

Other than that, not much exciting going on here. We need rain. Lots of it. I really don’t want to water, but as the temperatures rise, and we don’t get rain, the trees are going to need it. Even the grass is starting to turn brown.

Thank you - I’ll need it. And you’ll hear lots and lots of screaming.

Enjoy the slothage; I need to get groceries, too - I keep forgetting that even if I’m sleeping at the hospital, everyone else will probably need food. Dang. Thank goodness for grocery apps because I don’t have the time or inclination to bother.

Thank you!
We did a new build when we bought our townhouse in Naperville in 1998, coincidentally with the same builder. It was actually pretty easy; we don’t have to deal directly with contractors or anything, so none of those headaches.

Frankly, I’d have been perfectly happy with a pre-existing house, and in a larger acceptable geographic area, but Mrs W wants what she wants. There’s a reason “Happy Wife, Happy Life” has become a cliche. It’s very true!

I wouldn’t be beefing about the dishwasher except that potential buyers require things to be functional. Buncha damned snowflakes.

Donated about six bags of food goods to the local Transitions shelter today. Another hundred pounds or so we don’t have to pay to ship at $1.30/lb, and someone can get some good out of it. On top of that, we will not have the same amount of storage space in the new place. I’m still scratching my head over how much we had on the shelves; literally cases of tomato products, and probably ten pounds of pasta. WTH?

About the only sorting/disposing chore left is all the paper the wife has generated over the last 12 years. Boxes of the stuff. Reams and reams. Much of it is research she did for conducting tours at the museum, and I suspect there are a lot of old tax records that can be shredded and disposed of.

That’s my way of looking at it. We built 2 houses and I hated the experience each time. I’d rather see exactly what I’m buying. Not that I expect to ever do that again anyway. In theory, this house is it. Period.

Supper will be steamed shrimp with salads on the side. I got a hunk o’corned beef, for tomorrow’s supper, since it was on sale. Time for a little chillage before starting tonight’s feast.

The sink in my current rental home is shallow AND the faucet is low and sticks straight out, so washing dishes is a huge P.I.T.A. here. If I had spare cash, I’d consider replacing the faucet.

… and if I had a buttload of spare cash, I’d get a portable dishwasher as described above. They sound like the perfect solution for me.

Whelp. Today was InCrPoo’s official last day. The general manager even brought in cupcakes, and we’ve never had any sort of going-away farewell here for anyone else. He really is … was … a fixture around this place.
We even tried to think of some sort of parting gift, and came up with nothing. I went, “Ammo?” and that got a laugh. (We didn’t know what specific guns he has, though.)

Feels like the end of an era.

Next up: Dickeys v 2.0, where I start running the joint. :wink:

I didn’t smooch him, but I did give him a hug goodbye, and told him I’d be happy to buy him a beer anytime.

… and will admit, cried on the way home.

Now I’m consoling myself with a store-bought eclair, some booze, and the devil’s lettuce.

Tomorrow, I gotta get up & do it all over again knowing I may never ever see him again. But his voice is etched into my brain.

This has been running thru my head today - I have absolutely no idea why…

shoe {{{hugs}}}

Even after a quarter century of marriage, I can remember how it feels to crush on somebody that hard, and it can be devastating. Hugs to you.

I haven’t been Mumping for a while, so I’m not fully up to speed on the InCrPoo saga. Is he aware of your feelings? Is there anything stopping you from texting him tomorrow and saying, “Hey, let’s go get that beer” ?

@Sunny_Daze

a week ago I bought the fabric for my next project:

Here is the pattern. This is just to indicate colors and pattern setting. There will be a lot of these put together:

What size will the finished quilt be? What do you do with the finished ones? I’m just Ms Questions today. :slight_smile:

@Sunny_Daze
The one I am just finishing will be 78" x 78" Many throws or lap quilts are 48’ x 60" and not really large enough to wrap up in while napping on the couch.

For my new project, I am not sure. I bought 3 yards of each fabric. That is enough, I think, for a queen sized bed spread. We will see how it progresses.

Just a note: the hexagonal pieces are 1" on each side, about 1 1/4 across

This is very cool. I’m just joining my mom’s quilting club and I’m very excited about quilts right now. I’ve haven’t done it in years. :tada:

Best of luck (and good medicine) on your son’s surgery tomorrow wordy.

hippy, I like the hexagonal patterns. I gave a couple of hexagonal blocks ~9" to Sis that my great grandmother had pieced and never completed, since she’s much more of a quilter than I am. I learned a bit of quilting when I would go to west Tennessee for my late sweetie and his dad to go hunting. I hung out with his Granny Sarah, who always had something on the drop down frame in the parlor of the old farmhouse. She was much better at it than I. :slight_smile:

Irked, came home, took Nelson out, where he got to say hello to Jim, the Belgian Malinois two doors down and play with his sister Molly (a mini Aussie). Et and fixing to do KP.

I haven’t had a dishwasher since my first apartment in Nashville 27 years ago. Most one bedroom units in my price range in this area have a minimal kitchen. I didn’t grow up with one either.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

The Evergreen people did it again.

This made the news the other day. I just looked at our chart of that part of the bay and I saw why it’s not causing a traffic jam. There are two ways of getting out of the Patapsco river, and this ship is grounded in the short cut channel, but ships can go straight out into the middle of the bay, then turn south. Maybe it’ll add an hour to transit time? Probably less - I didn’t bother measuring the exact mileage difference. But it’s pretty obvious that they strayed out of the channel. Sounds like the navigator needs to be fired. Or the pilot??? hmmmmm

I just finished repairing the two rips on the bimini. They’re not beautiful patches, but they should get us another year out of the bimini, which is great. We can’t afford to replace it this year.

Supper was good. Somehow, a carton of Tin Roof Sundae fell into my cart, so it looks like we have some dessert for later. :wink:

I highly doubt it. Smart kid, but also oblivious. The number of times I’ve heard him say, "I never know when a girl likes me … " { massive rolleyes }

Well, my limited free time + energy has been occupied by Gentleman Caller lately. Who is much closer to my own age, and, um, highly aware of my intentions.

However, InCrPoo and I do have each others numbers due to work communications (ah, modern romance) so I will keep your suggestion in my back pocket.
I like it: light-hearted, low-key.

Meanwhile, to occupy my time - and because I had a reminder in my phone - I went to the local car wash.
Now that the snow has melted, I wanted to get rid of the salt crud and hopefully stave away the horrible body damage I see on older cars 'round here.
… and a former employee (and persona non grata y’all, this guy stirred up some bad drama at work) still works there!
I was still in my work shirt, so 95% certain he recognized me.

Coming from a big city (DFW metroplex is no joke) this was one of those “ah, so this is small-town life” moments.

Brought home two bags of romaine lettuce for Le Ratties. It had gone south - not bad-bad, but nothing you’d wanna serve paying customers.

I made a comment about how I’d barely serve them to my rats, was about to toss both bags in the trash, and then went … “hmmm.”

Rattattas never get such a delicacy; they about to be happy!
