I have moved to the back porch and my friend’s laptop doesn’t like it there. The weather is beautiful, things are growing and in need of cleaning up and I am as happy as I can be in these times.

Spent a few idle minutes figuring out our route/stops from Portland to MSP. Probably Portland>Spokane>Butte (MT)>Miles City (MT)>Bismarck>St. Cloud>MSP. That’s only about 300-350 miles a day (except for the last leg).
My nephew came through his pacemaker surgery just fine, but sore.
With only about a month and a half until the house is listed, the dishwasher started leaking today. Luckily, we haven’t cancelled our Sears Home Warranty yet, so I filed a claim with them. A technician can’t get here until April 5th. I’m really hoping that it’s just the door seal and that a replacement is easily found.
Lots of green appearing on the trees, and things are sprouting up all over. The neighbor’s ornamental plum is spectacular. Looks like we’ll have some decent curb appeal by the time the house goes up for sale.
Good evening all. Kept the bike moving for 60 minutes, a shade over 12 miles, so that exercise is done. Avoided nappage (barely) and now need to fix some dinner, had a mid-afternoon snack so trying not to eat a lot.
And I got nothing…except good wishes to all and to all a good night.
You too! We’ll be thinking of you.
Moomm That picture of Roxy made me laugh. She’s a character.
Butters We liked The Sinner. I’ll have a think and see if I can remember any other things that are similar. I know we found a few others.
talky I hope the end of your day was better than the first half.
Cookie I’m glad that your nephew’s surgery went well. It’s always a relief to hear that.
I spent most of the day wrestling with taxes and a few last minute things for the re-fi folks. I’m hoping that we’re finally done for this property, and almost done with the other. Then, Og help me, the plan is to buy a third. Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh
I have promised a few of you the recipes for butterscotch rice krispy treats, and I finally found it. Ta-da
Howdy Y’all! I spent a fair amount of the day between emails and texts about the big celebration on Sattidy and the fact that the Bishop is comin’. Originally he was to have been with us this comin’ Sunday, but the Presiding Bishop of the ECUSA apparently has called all the Bishops together for, well, I don’t know what, a tea party perhaps, and that is this weekend. Thus he will be makin’ a midweek visit on April 6th. I think all this schedulin’ bidness might be worse than church janitor Junior Warden bidness. Anywho, gettin’ folks lined up for that. This cut greatly into my sloth time. If that does not stop, I may lose my sloth license! 'Tis rainyish here. We supped and have been in chill mode, so all is well.
Cookie glad the nephew came through his pacemaker surgery unscathed.
Sunny I foresee Butterscotch Rice Krispie treats in my near future.
Swampy scheduling bidness is the worst bidness. The worst. I feel for you.

Always looking for viewings. I don’t do violence or horror. Drama is my genre of choice.thanks @Sunny_Daze .
Upon further inspection, I see standing water in the dishwasher, so it would appear that the pump has given up the ghost. Come to think of it, the thing was making some racket the other night, so that must have been its death rattle.
Murphy’s law and all that @Chefguy. Still a pain in the ass and an expense.
I sure hope that appliances are easier to come by than a year ago. Our dishwasher gave up the ghost and while there were many black dishwashers available, white ones were rare and hard to find. I hand washed dishes for a verrrrrry long 2 1/2 months.
I spent a wonderful day outside. I had planned to just sit on the back porch and enjoy a nice spring day, I was forced to be somewhat productive because the dirty table and chairs were lessening my enjoyment. The chest freezer and mister compressor cover also got wiped clean, then I put all of the piddly stuff that had gathered out there in their proper places. Inspired by that, I got into the yard and dealt with all the things that bothered me but were too minor to go out in the cold and take care of.
THEN I sat on our nice clean porch and stitched and smoked weed (Having grass is a true joy) and drank beer. Today has been a wonderful day.
Poor GG had a bit of a tough day, though. My porch table is right next to their catio, the kitchen window is also close. GG didn’t understand that I was right there and was standing in the sink beating his paws against the window in frustration when VBC thought she would come out and get a treat (a friend’s cats’ kibble, we trade back and forth), so GG followed her. I thought that meant he understood, but no. I went in to pee (you don’t own beer, you just rent it for a while), he was suddenly all alone and he was scared and it was horrible. Deaf as a post hubs could hear GG wailing through his gaming headset, so he opened the big door so GG could hear his voice and have a bunch of bugs to chase around the house.
Up from nappage. Making Redneck Stir fry and having a Manhattan.
So why do you let a mad genius wander around a compound with a fully equipped machine shop?
Cheers! You deserve it. ![]()
Most of you are probably snoozing by now, but I promised myself I’d post before bed, so here I am. Today was busy:
Last night my daughter called to say the appraisal for the house they’re trying to buy came in $20k over the sales price. The closing is supposed to be in a week, and they HAVE to be out of the rental house by 3/31. I figure this has to be a common problem these days, when you have to bid way over the asking price to have any hope of getting your offer accepted. They don’t HAVE $20k. They’re pouring everything they have into the down payment. Anybody have any suggestions?
Today was shot day–the two shots I get for the mast cell disorder (itching). I took an Uber there, but when I got out, I though I’d see if I could walk all the way home (5.4 miles). Then the sun skulked behind clouds, the wind picked up, and it started raining, so I only got 5-6 blocks. Then I caught a bus. Then I walked about 3 miles to get home. I’m proud of myself for abandoning the five-miler. Usually I can’t do that once I get a challenging idea. I was a dripping mess when I got home so took a hot bath.
Moooom, that’s the face I imagine @JaneDoe42 making while she swung the cane. I love the braids!
swampy, do you and OYKW celebrate anniversaries? You seem like such a happy couple. I guess every day’s a celebration at your cave, though, right?
cookie, gorgeous quilt!
Oops. Drier stopped. Hugs to all!
Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave.
I don’t know. Did they have the sales price in writing, or was it “sales or appraised price, whichever is higher”?
I’m confused here - usually this would be good news - you’re getting a good deal in that it appraised higher than what you’ve contracted to bid. In my experience, you just worry if the appraisal comes in too low so you can’t get the mortgage. Am I missing something?
I keep forgetting to say, but hippie, I’m really impressed with the quilt. That’s one project I absolutely want nothing to do with because I’m pretty sure I lack the patience to get it just so. One of my husband’s aunts used to hand-quilt throw pillows and they were really impressive in their detail. Not to my personal taste, but the workmanship on a well-made quilt always leaves me in awe. Well done!
I want all this talk of dying dishwashers to stop right here and now. Ours has been periodically making some gawd-awful noise and since it’s closing in on 18 years old, I figure it’s a pre-death rattle. We can’t afford to replace it for at least a year (thanks, MD Comptroller of the Treasury) so if it dies, it’s dishpan hands for me. Dammit.
I think I got decent sleep last night, but I would have liked more this morning. Such is life. I’ll be getting the kidlet shortly. Meanwhile, I’m caffeinating.
Happy Wednesday!
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN 'Tis 61 Amurrkin out and cloudy with a predicted high of 76 and mostly cloudy for the day. It could rain some. Or not. TWPTB are all willy-nilly on this. Today we shall procure comestibles for da cave and then I shall meet the other shoppers to procure comestibles for the big St. Paddy’s doin’s on Sattidy. We made the executive decision last night to go to the hog trough Golden Corral for a late N.O.L./early sup to take care of the need to feed today.
Nellie we don’t celebrate anniversaries or bdays. We are just not big on givin’ each other gifts and such. The fact that we allow each other to live is present enough. ![]()
MOOOOOOM if you listen to Madge you won’t have dishpan hands.
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, bother of bothers, I suppose I must purtify and don appropriate bein’ amongst the great unwashed attire. How I do suffer!
Happy Hump Day Y’all!
Thanks. As this project comes to a close, I am getting the next one ready
Good morning everyone.
It’s currently 41 degrees and cloudy. We’ll see partly sunny/cloudy skies and rain throughout the day.
I was busier than I thought I would be yesterday, with many calls and impromptu meetings, along with my regular meetings, calls, and work. My day started early and ran long and today will probably be the same, with a short “break” during the day because I need to take Polar to the vet.
I’m still tired as all get out and didn’t sleep well.
The kids, grandkids, and my mother are coming to my place on Sunday. I am already girding my loins for my mother’s unwelcome comments for what I should be doing, WHY did I pick that color sofa and any number of other things she can think to pick at. I AM looking forward to seeing the kids and grandkids though.
Sorry to hear about appliance woes, those are no fun. I grew up in a house without a dishwasher and hand-washed dishes until I moved out of my house. Since then, I’ve always had a dishwasher except for when my new dishwasher bit the dust right after installation and I had to wait two months for repair and then a replacement dishwasher. That was a long two months of hand washing dishes. I hope everyone’s dishwasher hangs on, and that repair costs are minimal.
I suppose I should get on with my day. I really, really donwanna.
My mother refuses to have a dishwasher - even when they redid the kitchen, even when there were more than 2 in the household. I think it’s a weird matter of pride.
We don’t have a dishwasher on the boat, so that’ll be fun - especially with the little sink in the galley. That’s why I’ve already declared that this summer, it’ll be paper plate and solo cups! But I still want to use decent flatware, and of course, pots and pans and such will have to be washed.
Despite being fed before I got him, Toby snarfed down 6 oz of formula, then proceeded to fill his britches to an epic degree. I cleaned him up and changed him, and now he’s snoozing in the swing. We’ll see how long that lasts. Daughter has a staff meeting tomorrow afternoon, so I’ll have to pick up Roxy after school. Since I’ll be down that end of the county, I’ll probably run to WalMart for critter supplies (litter, food, treats) then swing into Aldi.
Always something, ain’t it?
Morning all. Didn’t sleep well last night, awake about 3am and then off-and-on until 7:30, so doing the swimmin’ may be a chore. Have scheduled a meeting with a lawyer to go over my will on the 28th, so that will be another chunk of change out of my pocket. Ah well, at least my dishwasher is only 2 years old and only has to work once a week, so it should come close to outlasting me. LIke you Taters, never had one growing up, so now it is a treasured commodity.
Taters, enjoy the visitors…and least 2/3 of them…on Sunday.
nellie, I can’t help them, feel bad because I’d figure they would have made (and had accepted) an offer they could live with. If the owner was going to do an appraisal, you’d think it would have been done before listing the house.
Unknown, GG is a riot…well, to read about, I imagine to live with might be another thing.
OK, need to do a few house things, break fast, and then head over to the gym for Wake (swimming), Shake (whirlpool) and Bake (Sauna) day. All y’all take care.
Rough start to the day. It never ceases to amaze me how big a jackass some people can be, especially clients. Yes, I get you pay us to do things, but you don’t pay us to be punching bags and no, my team isn’t obligated to sit on a call and take it.
Just got the confirmation in the surgical app with all the details, so I guess this thing is happening tomorrow. I’m going to come scream into the void here tomorrow, I know it.
hippy, I meant to tell you, too, that your quilt is lovely. I wish I did something more than knitting sometimes, and this is definitely one of those times. There are so many gifted Dopers.
Off to distract myself from wanting to vomit now. Like I said, gotta get the panic out of my system now so I’m chill tomorrow. I am pretty sure I’m going to cry after they wheel overlyboy to the OR. Thank goodness they give these guys anti-anxiety meds. I’m pretty sure they won’t share, though.
