The kanicbird konundrum

OK. I’ve read it now. Let’s look at that.

Most people do not have to see seven professionals in five years. Just because you have, means there is obviously a problem with your mental health that you are at least halfway admitting to yourself. Otherwise you would be resistant to even have seeing them.

But I don’t believe she would have said “to keep doing what you have been” if she knew you were driving drunk and expecting an ArchAngel to protect you, and those you put in danger, from harm. If you continue that destructive behavior, you will hurt those around you.

As an addendum, kanicbird, you are going to have to keep trying with mental professionals. Social workers aren’t all that great with this type of thing and Lord knows that Psychiatrists are not all created equal. You need to find someone that will help you avoid destructive behavior. Your journey is not done. Find that profesional.

Well, hearing an angel use a Jedi Mind Trick to get you out of a DUI and seeing demons in the faces of your neighbor’s cat would probably qualify.

I read it, and either you are blowing more smoke up our asses, or you managed to find “professionals” that ought to have their licenses taken away. Anybody willing to believe that you are doing fine and/or dandy after you described to them how the"Arch Angel Micheal" stopped a policeman from giving you a ticket you admittedly earned for drunken driving should be locked up next to you in the looney bin. If you are telling the truth you are a danger to those around you. If you think this is “LOL :)” funny, you are currently the biggest jerk currently on the this message board. That should be the only thing “debated” in this thread.

You may do with it whatever you like.

There IS a huge gulf. A Trekkie is a Star Trek fan who takes his devotion to the show to extremes.

A Trekker is a hand-held GPS device for the blind, developed by HumanWare.

Not sure why you keep bringing up Scientology to rebut atheists. It’s just another religion not to believe. It’s a minority religion that seems particularly wacko because it started recently, but in the end it’s only marginally more nutty than transubstantiation, the virgin birth, and the Trinity.

What’s REALLY scary is that I believe Kanicbird has said he works with children.

The DSM created by same group who until the 70s officially regarded homosexuality as a mental illness? Of course; I see no reason to consider them immune to prejudice & political pressure. And since many are no doubt believers themselves both their rationality and honesty on anything touching religion cannot be trusted.

Father Dougal: God, Ted, I heard about those cults. Everyone dressing in black and saying our Lord’s gonna come back and judge us all.
Father Ted: No… No, Dougal, that’s us. That’s Catholicism.

's ok, he’s probably hallucinating them too.

Dude! This is WHY I keep bringing up Scientology. You refuse the science behind modern psychology, and you think everybody except you and yours is “delusional”. That’s Scientology in a nutshell!

You can’t pick and choose scientific theories. That’s what the the global warming deniers do. Face it, you are a disingenuous hypocrite that preaches science, but denies it when it doesn’t fit your preconceived hateful notions. You’re a fucking bigot, and your are not going to allow any amount of scientific research to prove you otherwise.

Nah, I already said it above.

Seriously? You insist on comparing a discipline which relies heavily on self-reporting by patients with admittedly fractured thoughts and deviant behavior to a discipline with quantifiable results? Yet eleven posts back, you refute kanicbird’s assertion that his therapist patted him on the back and sent him on his merry way.

You don’t even believe kanicbird’s self-report, nor do you believe his therapist’s assessment. If you don’t consider psychology to be reliable scientific process, why should we?

Don’t be ridiculous–Der Trihs is hardly “refus[ing] the science behind modern psychology,” as you falsely contend. He’s pointing out that psychologists, practioners of a very soft science, have historically made some poor value judgments (as regarding homosexuality as a mental illness, for example) that are held in contempt today because they (the practioners) allowed themselves to be ruled by their own subjective values rather than any scientific principles.

You’re making a fool out of yourself by blowing this up into Der Trihs’ wholesale rejection of all of science, and his consequent hypocrisy.

Two things.

  1. Psychology is, as far as I can tell, about as soft as real science gets (without descending into pure quackery). Yes, it is a legitimate discipline with real insights and real knowledge to offer us. But at the same time it’s far more likely than, say, Biology, Physics, or Astronomy to be hit by the prejudices of the time, in part due to the aforementioned “self-reported” nature, and in part because so much of it is in how you interpret it.

  2. I think Der Trihs wasn’t claiming Psychology fallacious so much as to say that if the majority of people are nuts, nobody is going to come out and say it, but rather will pretend that said insanity is the norm.

He is hypocritical. He backed himself into a corner, as did others, by denying the DSM-V.

Yes, the DSM is changed over time, that’s why it’s “V” now. (It’s actually V point something or other but I won’t get into that). Iit is how mental disorders are diagnosed. The whole field of psychology updates that constantly. To deny its validity is to deny the whole field. DerTrihs is claiming that it’s politically based. That’s bullshit.

Okay, explain how homosexuality changed from a mental disorder to not a mental disorder in the late 20th century–purely in terms of science.

You know, I don’t give a shit. My fucking point is that there is a difference between run of the mill religion (not snake charming, faith “healing” bullshit, but every day religion) and schizophrenia, and anybody who can’t see that is an idiot. Some atheists have an ax to grind, I get that, but that doesn’t make them less of an asshole for grinding their ax in a thread about a schizophrenic. It’s really a matter of tact.

I damn well know I’m not showing tact here, but I am the guy that stands up and says, “HEY! You’re being an asshole!” I am not going to sit by and let unwarranted attacks go unanswered. And why should I?

I’m not even that religious, but there were too many posts that are clearly bigoted against those that are. Assholes aren’t even posting about kanicbird, they are grinding their goddamn axes regarding religion and I don’t fucking appreciate it.

So you can fucking bite me.
