Your garment’s in a bunch because someone upthread equated religious belief with insanity and you, as a believer, take that personally. Whether you like it or not, religion requires one to suspend a certain amount of belief and subscribe to a regional mythology while denying mythologies that contradict your own. The DSM-V refrains from commenting on religious subscription to a belief in magical beings, invisible spirits, and the ritual simulation of cannibalism (except in cases of extreme fanaticism) because to recommend treatment for adherents would raise a political shitstorm of Biblical proportion.
If the same patients claimed to give ultimate authority to Zeus, claimed that Athena died and was resurrected in order to excuse our sins, and required the ritual consumption of Pixie Sticks and YooHoo the DSM-V.infinity would recommend swift intervention.
And if you don’t believe that the DSM is politically dirty, tell me why it isn’t the universal handbook for dealing with mental illness in every country, in every culture, and by every mental health professional regardless of location, language, and/or ethnic background?
Just to add about the medical evaluations, which all agree. The one who initially suspected psychosis <?> changed her opinion on that and medication shortly after. All have agreed independently that what I am doing is something that people do, though less so in ‘western’ culture. It is very common in Native American and Eastern culture to seek out answers for life in the spiritual, it is a normal and healthy human condition is how I infer that.
The reason I had so many mental health care professionals is we quickly got to the point where they would say they don’t want to go further, as they see real progress in what I am doing and they don’t want to interfere. When you are looking for help from professionals and one tells you outright that they can’t help you tend to seek out someone who can, so that is the main reason for the number of them.
As for the, what some are calling drunk driving time. It may have been very well stopping drunk driving. I do not know what my BAL was, I don’t believe I would have exceeded it though I don’t know (and I believe the limit was higher then), I may have exceeded the lower standard DWAI, though I don’t know that either. A single case that may be border line DWAI in 10 years did not raise the alarm of these professionals.
I sent Monkey With a Gun to his room for a time-out because of that tantrum.
ETA: get back in there until you learn how to cast aspersions on your brethren without resorting to playground taunts.
You were drunk enough to see “the Arch Angel Micheal”… or this post of yours is as full of shit as all the others. Why don’t you do us all a great big favor and stay the fuck out of Great Debates? You seem to be deliberately ignorant on all things scientific and religious, and I can’t think of a single thing you’ve spewed on those topics that have advanced the conversation meaningfully.
Might as well, attempting logical discourse with you comes with the same odds.
kanicbird, hey. Listen: regardless of your religious experience or mental health, we’d really like it if you wouldn’t drink and drive. Risking the lives of others disrespects His children (that’s your brothers and sisters, k-bird) and it makes us all nervous. Sure, God might have your back, but He really has more important things to concern Himself with, and some of our loved ones are sharing the road with you. If you have His direct line, I’d rather you collaborate on some of the Big Problems rather than amusing yourself with trivial tests of faith.
So this is the best you psychology people can do. Where is your deep understanding of human motivations and personalities? Where is your ability to figure out the best way to approach a person, no matter how odd?
I can’t think of a way kanicbirdhasn’t been approached, yet he is as deliberately ignorant now as he was when he first got here. He has been given dictionary definitions of scientific and religious terms over and over again, and he continues in conversations as if nothing has ever been said to him. He isn’t here to be “approached”-he is here to spew.
With all due respect, I do suspect psychosis. You are obviously experiencing frequent breaks from reality. As an aside, forget the assholes in this thread, let them attack me.
Anyway, you simply have not found a professional that can help you yet. Don’t be resistant to help when it is offered and don’t commit the sin of pride by thinking you don’t need help. You may be charming enough to convince a work-a-day shrink not to take their time with you, but that does you no favors. None at all. Nobody can do this for you, but professionals can help, and you must work with the professionals. Reality is slippery for you, you are going to have to let go of your pride a bit so you can get a better grip.
