The Labo(u)r Day MMP

Moooooom, how much light do you want to let (or not let) in? I have a double window at the front of my apartment that has both window blinds and drapes, sans valance. It allows me to darken the studio as needed. IIRC, you have chosen shades of grey for your walls, so a splash of color with the draperies would be nice.

Up, caffeinating, breakfasted, a load of towels and sheets in the wash and fixing to go into the dryer, a load of clothes on deck and fixing to do KP. It will be a little slothful today, other than a little playtime in the studio and taking Nelson to the dog park.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

How about a box valance in your preferred fabric or use moulding in a craftsman / Victorian / mid century modern / country etc style.
Eliminates the side drapes but you can hide your blinds when not in use.

No, there were box valences when we bought the place, and we immediately took them down. Granted, they weren’t as pretty as the one in your link, but I don’t think we want to go there.

As for light, I like to maximize it, but depending upon the time of year, sometimes the setting sun shines directly in right about the time we’re trying to watch the news, hence the honeycomb blinds. But we never want to darken the room, which is why I didn’t make full drapes in the first place.

I’m leaning towards just a nice valence, or maybe a valence/jabot treatment… maybe. I don’t know - I can’t visualize it but when I see something I like, I know it right away. Sadly, I lack a decorator gene.

Oh, yeah, back from erranding.

The ‘Low Rider Crew’ had me smiling right out loud. Thanks-fun image to start my morning.
Metal Mouse With your soccer schedule I’d be in bed at 1600, no 2300 about it (notice how suavely I slipped 11pm military time in there). I got worn out just reading your plan for the day. I would have to apply copious amounts of caffeine in between games. Hope there’s an espresso machine at the concession stand.

Keep Misty and you safe in that nasty air.

I love sharing authors and book titles. It’s Joseph Heywood, The book I’m reading currently (like until 15 minutes ago) is “Force of Blood” (copyright 2011). Its one of his ‘Woods Cop Mysteries’-he has other series but this is his mystery one. I have another good game warden series, based in Maine, also steeped in nature-let me know if you want that one. Heywood lives in Portage, MI. My youngest son lives in Ann Arbor, please say hi! if you see him. I miss him a lot.

FCMoooom with that pretty a view and window shape, I’d go with just a valance. Maybe a very favorite fabric of yours and longer as you say. I do love me some valances with such a purty view.

Red Mind me asking what sort of art Happens in your studio-I’m sure the others all know, but I must not have been paying attention.

Shoot, morning without caffeine is unthinkable, half ‘n half or not. I gave up on cream and sugar, slows down getting that first scalding slurp of life-giving liquid down my gullet. Seconds count when it comes to morning coffee.

I was seeing boxers with Mighty Mouse printed on ‘em. Guess we’ll have to wait on Ms. MetalMouse for the big reveal.

Boo

I’m beginning to think that the only way Tango is going to learn not to bother Pixel when she’s sleeping is to let her administer a beat-down. I thought he would exhaust some energy chasing Caelan around the house, but it hasn’t put a dent in his relentless “I’m gonna play with EVERYTHING!!” attitude. Which is good, I guess. Just tiring. Watching him rassle with the stuffed Halloween cat in the sun room wears me out.

I’d just let Pixel do the necessary whomping and only intervene if actual injury is involved.

Allie (aka the Princess) is still in a snit about not being allowed out to the patio. Oh well. Her lungs are the priority here.

Sloth day today, since DH and I are both feeling a touch ick. Could be air quality, could be Hades Annex’s latest round of kennel cough. Who knows?

I certainly hope we’ve met all supply needs for the near future, since I don’t want to go out in this and would feel guilty about delivery drivers venturing forth.

It looks like London out there. The sky was yellowish earlier but is now a solid grey with smoke. Nevertheless, I’m thinking of donning face mask (It’s officially almost n95 quality.), grabbing eye drops, and heading for the store. I need produce. I need to get oooouuuuuut! It’s only a mile away. I could make it. It’s not like I’d collapse on the sidewalk or anything.

Mooooom, if you get a new valance only, would it be in the same fabrics as the drapes? I like that fabric and love the look of the window with the valance/drapes combo. It’s a beautiful window.

Also, Mooooom, are you talking about painting the inside of the door that had the film on it? You don’t like the wood?

Nettie, I think Misty is the perfect name for that beauty.

MetalMouse, let us know that you’ve survived. Boo, the Mighty Mouse fantasy gave me a grin. I can see him saving the day. There’s no Ms. MetalMouse, and I bet he’s blushing just thinking about doing the big reveal himself. :open_mouth: I’d better move on.

DOT! Hope the instructor showed up and the driving session went well. I’m sure the instructor has to be used to dealing with nervous drivers.

Even lazier. Buy bread stuff from the bakery and dream about proper biscuits, like the ones my great aunt in Kentucky made. Didn’t realize then that I should have been watching and learning.

Congratulation Hippie. I realized that the biscuit recipe I printed out was from Left Hand of Dorkness for cheesey biscuits and I had printed out a recipe of yours for Omaha Smoke. Haven’t made it yet, still looks yummy. So I just bookmarked your biscuit recipe.

Misty is definitely the preferred weather and a lovely name for such a beautiful bird.

My parents are in the middle of that as well, so they battened down the hatches and turned on the HEPA filter. At least with all the smoke, it’s not getting too hot.

For some of you [deleted]perverts[/deleted] curious folks, half-dressed meant shoes, socks uwear and shorts, so the bottom half was completely done, just need the short to finish the job. And no, my underwear is standard-issue Wal-Mart boxer-briefs and that is all I’m saying to that.

Refereeing is done and coaching in about an hour, tired but still able to go, at least the weather is cooler (80’sF) and lots of clouds blocking the sun out. Have taken on both water and caffeine but come 4:30 pm I rather think nappage is likely. So far the rain is staying away.

OK, need to reorganize and get ready to do my coaching thing. Take care all.

You can see how we’d assume just skivvies and socks, though, right?

Seriously sorry we went there. I still think you and Mighty Mouse have a lot in common, and I notice you and he are never in the same room at the same time. Just sayin’.

Okay, driving session is done. Went pretty well overall. I’m tired and hurting, but it’s mostly my left leg (the weaker/less functional one anyway, but luckily, not the one I really use when driving) and… that just means I stick to short trips for now. Even short trips will be huge.

It’s not a pure clearance. She says it looks good, but wants me to ask my PT what she thinks and wants to do a couple more sessions. I mean… maybe. It’s like $125 a session and I don’t have that to throw around. Plus, I know how to drive. I have my license. Stopping was my choice, so I don’t need anyone’s actual permission to start again (as long as I do it safely and responsibly).

Anyway… it’s a freedom I have today (after some rest) that I didn’t have yesterday. I was thinking if I feel up to it a little later on, I might celebrate by having some variety of drive-thru food for dinner (and a smoothie, which I’ve been wanting for like six months). What kind? I don’t know yet. I have options!

You tease :see_no_evil:.
BTW, I’m not a pervert, I’ve merely got a smutty mind. Red blooded ‘Murican girl and all.

If budget is an issue, we girl Mumpers can take up a collection and send you the fun stuff:

Boo bad girl Boo Again. Will it never end? Nope.

Howdy Y’all! Been a day of almost marathon sloth here at da cave. I did manage to go to the burly butcher sto’ for some half ‘n half and ‘nanners. I got a pint of half ‘n half. We will buy a quart whilst out and about tomorrow for deheathenization. Speakin’ of which, I got a text yestiddy mornin’ askin’ me to ush yet again as the ones (a couple) who were supposed to, called and said they would not be able to do so. So, I shall ush for the fifth week in a row. I was lookin’ forward to ploppin’ down in a pew and just bein’ a regular old church goer. C’est la vie!

MOOOOOOM since you don’t want drapes, I’d go with just a valence then. I have two windows in my livin’ room with just valences and like ‘em just fine. I agree with goin’ with a splash of color with the gray walls. However, if you’re feelin’ fancy, you could do this.

FCM, how about this? I’m not even sure there’s even a window - it looks more like a random wall with curtains. Your cats would have a great time with that giant dangly thing in the middle!

Well, I did it. I did it, and I’m glad, glad, I tell you! Sorry. Too many Perry Mason episodes as a kid. I masked up and walked to the store. It was wonderful. Yes, my eyes burned, but the mask blocked almost all the smoke particles. I also converted my change to dollahs in the machine: $14.76, people! Next round’s on me. Unless you want more than ice water, in which case, just come on down. I have a liquor cart full of bottles that are just sitting there doing nothing.

Thanks for invite nelliebly. The ‘strong stuff’ for me nowadays is when my Coke Zero isn’t caffeine free.

Glad you got to go out. Whadja buy, hunh, hunh? Candy, chips, cookies? Tell all. (At this point I’d just about kill for a fresh apple, orange or melon).

Boo

Well, still alive. My feet are propped up and I dread when I have to walk to the kitchen (or anywhere), but I’ve got several bottles of water and some Pepsi inside me so I think I’ll survive. Just the first real full day of soccer I’ve had since October of last year and my slothful ways caught up with me. Still, it was fun, the kids seemed to enjoy it (boys 10U tied 1-1 and girls 12U lost 1-7 to a veteran team–and us playing our first game together) and no yelling parents (yet). Rain never showed, not even a rumble of thunder, but a lot of clouds helped keep me from burning up.

Will not be an active Sunday at Casa Rat.

Dot, good news on the driving, if you need any help on the PT, well…

Boo, you are incorrigible…so I will try not to incorrige you…but budget is not a problem…

Everyone else, maybe more later, right now I need to clean up and find the energy to seek sustenance. All y’all take care.

Guess I should have known better than to ask for decorating advice from you comedians! :stuck_out_tongue:

I got fabric to cover the seat cushions, and FCD approved, so that’s a win. I was halfway looking at curtain/valence fabric, but I really wasn’t in the mood, so maybe another time.

The stinky carpet from the basement has been taken to the landfill. I cut it into 4 sections, so the rolls were manageable. FCD and I drove down to the dump along with what appeared to be half of the county. It was a long wait, but it’s done. Then we swung by daughter’s place to see what progress she’s made. The answer is “very little” - but she had friends over and all the kids totally trashed Roxy’s room - toys everywhere!!!

A couple is coming in the morning to take the hutch - yay! So I just went over the cat-induced scratches with some Old English scratch-cover - it looks nice! I also tested the lights and they work, and I removed all the cat hair, so that’s another win. I’ll be glad to have it out of here. Then I need to find a sideboard or buffet or small chest so I can store my tablecloths and place mats.

We also stopped at Tractor supply and ordered 2 tons of pellets. They don’t deliver, but one of the employees slipped me his phone number - he’s going to bring the pellets to me tomorrow or Moanday! I just need to get $100 to pay him - I’m sure he’ll prefer cash to a check. That means in the morning I need to clear space in the garage for the pellets.

The rest of tonight is for chillage. I did order a bedding set with matching curtains for the guest room. Now all I need is a bed and some furniture for the room. Off to check Craigslist…

Does that mean you’re vetoing both of our suggestions? I’m crushed. Have you no taste?? The next time you go on a cruise. Swampykins and I will redecorate for you. You’re welcome.
