The Labo(u)r Day MMP

Just finished clearing a lot of miscellany from the dresser and chest in our bedroom. Much dusting ensued, too. When Roxy goes down for her nap, I need to get the stuff out from under the bed, then I’m going to remove the blocks and return the frame to its proper height. We raised it to store things under it, but now we don’t need to cram anything under there, so the bed can go back down. Yay!

It’s raining - a nice, steady shower. From the looks of weather radar and the forecast, we shall get lots of rain thru Friday. I don’t know how I’m going to keep Roxy entertained indoors all that time, but I’ll do what I must. Because I’m nice, dammit!

SIL still hasn’t arrived. I know he works nights, but he gets off at 11 and he now lives about 15 minutes from work. It’s after 10 - he should have been up at least a couple of hours already. It’s no wonder it’s taking so long to get their crap out of our basement!!! :stuck_out_tongue:

Gotta figure out what I’ll feed the kid for lunch. She had PB&J toast for breakfast - maybe grilled cheese for lunch? Decisions, decisions…

Happy Hump Day!

Cloudy, and not so hot, but the humidity is high.

No day care today as the dogs are still pooped from last night. The point of day care is to wear their little asses out, they are already worn out.

No pics of the pool Boo. Hard enough wrangling the dogs without trying to hold onto a camera too.
However, the plunge tomorrow has a kiddie pool and I can sit on the side and gets some pics. Their friend Jax was so pooped from the plunge he wouldn’t let anybody throw his ball but me today. He still wants to chase his ball, just not too far.
But it is great fun, even if most of the dogs don’t get in the pool. There was probably close to 100 dogs there, all running around and playing. I got a compliment on how nice my dogs are, being that shar pei are not supposed to be nice.

Lawn/fence guy is here. Already mowed the lawn, but he couldn’t start on the fence because his tools were locked in the shed. He is supposed to be done by tomorrow. I hope.
He has the side gate built and installed. He’s working in the front gate now, which also has to be hand built. Then two sections in the back.

I am so tired. I think once he leaves I’m going to take a nap.

Well, I gave up on trying to install the new kitchen faucet. Seems that either my arms have shrunk since I installed the last one, or my body just refuses to contort itself enough to get the job done. Called my trusted plumber guy and he sent someone over within the hour to do the work. Astounding service and worth the $200!

Smells like smoke may be back in the area, though not as bad as a few days ago. We’ve had extremely unusual (for this time of year) strong easterly winds that brought smokey conditions down from WA (shakes fist at Flyboy) and knocked out power to part of the city.

Time to roust the Ms out of bed and get some grub.

They did have a car at the garage ~sigh of relief~. It looks like the alternative would have been over 2 hours on assorted buses and trains, plus a half-hour walk at the end, and it’d still get me there late. Ain’t no way anyone else is driving over an hour out of their way to pick me up

The whole thing was not aided by the fact that both receptionists at the garage were brand new, neither of them knew how their systems worked, and they hadn’t quite got their heads round the whole thing yet (stuff like you don’t just go ‘OK, you car was here for an MOT wasn’t it? It failed’ then hand you the paperwork, smile and wander off- that means I am legally not allowed to drive it away). Normally that place has a very capable lady there, but she’s apparently off on a training course for the week, because there’s plenty of chaos to go around lately.

I was planning on spending today doing cooking and stuff, but it’s all running a wee bit late now. I should get some stuff done, but I don’t know if I’ll have time or inclination for the cookies I was planning on now.

I was craving bizkits this morning something fierce and I’m not even lucky enough to be Southern(Iowa and Nebraska). Now you’ve talked about it even more I may have to add to my grocery order this afternoon. It’s all your fault! As is the honey I’ll drizzle on them too.

My little Hattie wears a mask to her new preschool-they should be grandkid girl pen pals and I’d send a picture of Harriet in her mask outside school to inspire Roxy. Then Roxy sends back a picture of playing the piano…

Just found out I missed my Botox migraine injections appt Friday, I’ll probably have to pay a huge missed appt fee to get back in their good graces. So I’ll be under my bed too, except I’ll be reading a trashy novel. Good luck with the car dilemma tomorrow-I’d be happy to scoot over and give you a ride but I don’t have a pass port-plus, you all reasonably shouldn’t let us with our pestilence into your fair land.

Doing grocery shopping today too but it’s all on line so snatching up the forbidden impulse items is less fun-no donut holes or maple creme Oreos leaping into my cart. Just not the same. The pub sounds lovely. I’ll take a pint of hard cider.

Obviously you need a head mounted GoPro camera. You could do You Tube cute dog romping videos and get rich quick.

Time to pull on warmer socks and face the world. I’d rather pull the covers over my head. 42 degrees and relentless cold rain all day/day 2 of cold, grey and grim rain. Time to switch over to furnace. Once I spend 15 minutes on tiptoes reprogramming the thermostat it’s guaranteed to turn into a heat wave Friday.

Boo*

  • heading for the fuzzy afghan and trashy novel now. I’ll do grown up later. Maybe throw a little responsibility for good measure. Meaning picking up the middle schooler on time. Big whoopee, I know.

The police just pulled up outside our neighbor’s door. Again. For all I know, it could be a wellness check or something more benign, but since the neighbor just got out of the back of the car, maybe they gave him a ride from somewhere? Anyway, a few times a week the guy parks in front of my friend’s house (the neighborhood next to ours) in the middle of the night, a girl gets in and he leaves his car there all night. Cops have been by a few times, I assume to ask him why his car is over there. What weirds me out is that whenever he and his kids are outside he asks my kids to come inside and play. Perhaps I’m overreacting, but I don’t want them near that house. Also, I have somehow turned into the busybody.

At least it’s taking my mind off my stomach and my head. I woke up feeling like crap this morning - sore head, sore neck, gross stomach, stuffed up face. The sore head and sore neck is directly related to a crappy pillow. The gross stomach I assume is the crap diet lately. The stuffed up face, probably allergies. But they’re all combining to make it super difficult to think logically enough to answer my boss’s questions about the budget.

At work. Saw the ophthalmologist today for a cataract consult. I have the beginnings of them but don’t need surgery at this point. My eyes got dilated and now I look like Little Orphan Annie and am wearing sunglasses inside. Except I can’t see my computer screen with the shades on so I’m basically goofing off.

I’ve found that in my old age, I’m less inclined to contort and more willing to whip out the VISA or the checkbook. I wish my SIL was more handy - I’d be glad to pay him - but he’s only started learning how to do such things in the last 2 years that he was living here. Neither his dad nor his stepdad taught him how to use tools.

You and me both, sistah! My eye doc figures I’ll need the surgery within 5 years, so there’s something to look forward to!

I’ve fixed our bed, after vacuuming under it and disturbing Ziva. I also found a gazillion pairs of shoes belonging to my spousal unit. Some are so dusty, it’s obvious he hasn’t worn them in ages. I want him to do a major shoe purge. It never worked before, but I’m gonna lay down the law, dammit! snerk

I’ve got a carpet guy coming tomorrow and another coming on Firday. The second guy is from the company that installed the carpet 16 years ago - he’s already got an advantage. And I’ve got a number for a third company - I suppose I’ll call them too. Three estimates should be enough.

It’s a good thing FCD is so busy - we can afford to have all this done without emptying our savings.

I’ve decided supper will be bunless burgers. Sides TBD.

Nothing like being blasted out of bed at night by your phone screaming “Run now! Run far!” It’s OK, kitties…it’s only the fire department issuing another evacuation warning…FOR MY NEIGHBORHOOD!

Just a warning, not an order. The fire is still headed “not this way.” But they had to issue because of high winds overnight. On the upside, the winds have cleared a lot of the low smoke out of the area, and there is actually sunshine outside.

Spent the morning recording video for Back To School Night (Virtual). Such fun.

Greetings from Mars (or Mordor)! I am safe here.
The skies are such an unnatural dark orange with high-level smoke. Ash even came into the house through an open window and made a mess in the kitchen. It’s so dark outside that the TV people are having to use the lights on their cameras for stand-ups. I’ve got the lights on in the office - everywhere else in the house it’s like 5 AM twilight and the dog is confused.

The fires are nowhere near me - its just odd weather patterns creating a bubble of clean air from ground level to about 2,000 feet, and thick smoke is above that.

Howdy Y’all! Due to a sudden urge by a certain somebody we have been to the hog trough Golden Corral for a late N.O.L./early sup. Thus tonight’s planned menu will be tomorrow’s menu. 'Tis overcast and only eighty-three Amurrkin out. I may need my woolies!

Fence guy didn’t finish, he ran into a problem with the posts when he was hanging the new gate. Both posts for the front gate need to be replaced.

I didn’t get much done today.
Been a day of little irritations. Although on a good note, the fence guy told me there was some stuff going on out front, and it looks like the drug house across the street is being cleaned out. He said they parked a dumpster in the front yard and were throwing stuff out the windows into it.
It looks like the house directly across from me has been cleaned out too. Don’t know what happened to them, they were there, and then they were gone. They left the curtains open and you could see furniture inside, and the mail was piling up.

FCM, I thought kids Roxy’s age were exempt from wearing a mask?

Some jurisdictions it’s under 2, some are under 5, private or non-profit concerns like museums affiliated with Universities can set their own mandates-usually they can be more strict than the local or state governmental ones but never less restrictive. Calling it a patchwork in any one city would be unwarranted politeness.

BTW, if it wasn’t clear, I favor universal mask-wearing and starting wearing one without fail in late March. Had to sew ones for my family, even the at that time 2yo. Everybody got fuchsia pink ones, even the fellows, because that was the only spare fabric in the house-my daughter’s dorm curtains got to rise from the ashes : D.

With five cats, scooping the litterbox is a daily chore. Especially when one cat (Samantha) refuses to bury her stink and two cats (the Boondock Kittens) have weapons-grade diarrhea. No, there still isn’t any canned unsweetened pumpkin in Apple County, how could you tell?

{Gladys Kravitz} Abner! There’s something going on over at the Stevenses again! {/GK}

:notes: I wear my sunglasses inside so I can’t, so I can’t see! :notes:

My dentist’s office called to let me know the dentist won’t be in the day I had my crown scheduled. So it got moved up a week with the other dentist at the office. Which means that I’ll be getting my tooth drilled next Wednesday morning. Not looking forward to it, but one of my co-irkers had to clock out early today because one of her molars broke in half this afternoon so I’m heeding the warning.

sari, Echo sounds like Nelson does when we go to pup swim for his annual swim test. I have a blast watching the poodles, labs and huskies go down the slide.

Moooooooom, as kids taking music lessons, my piano book had the tune as Twinkle, Twinkle, the song book for the recorder had it as Bah, Bah Black Sheep and Sis’ first grade music book titled it as The ABC Song. There are a lot like that.

metal mouse, your comments about getting out of the MG reminded me why I no longer sleep on the ground when camping. I could get down, but it would take a derrick to get me back up. :stuck_out_tongue:

nut , I hope that it was nothing major with your car and you get it back this afternoon (or already have, given the time zone difference).

swampy, I didn’t realize that buffets were open anywhere yet. I occasionally get a gnawin’ and cravin’ for cheap Chinese buffet, but right now, just settle for takeout.

I got a lot accomplished at irk today, including giving some training to a new lead in another department. He had never done inventory research and I went over the basic steps with him. So far, he’s brought some good changes to his department that help me out, so I’m all for giving him more tools to do his job even better.

Dog is walked, menu / grocery list made and supper et. After KP, I’ll continue to work on a studio project. The main one that I’m doing is almost done and the side project that I’m using scraps for will be put up online, so I can recoup the money spent on the main, personal project.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

Try Friskies Lil’ Soups. They have a Chicken and Butternut Squash one that the critters around here love. Chewy usually has them on sale.

I saw some pet-specifically packaged unsweetened pumpkin at PetCo in the cat section. I wanna say near the wet canned food? I’m sure it’s overpriced compared to a can, but if you’re desperate, you might try looking for that … ?

It didn’t rain so I didn’t have a soggy irk day. But i’z tahred & been sitting on my butt since I got home. Now I gotta get back up for a minute, since that chicken boobie apparently will not cook itself. Rude!

After a short nappage this afternoon, coached soccer from 5-7pm in the 88F heat. Didn’t even try to keep up with the 7-9 year olds, but still had to move around some, so I let the Underground (Subway) fix dinner. I think with 4 soccer practices a week, all 5-7, that dinners fixed at home may become a rare occurrence for September and October…

talky, let me get this straight…he wants YOUR kids to come into HIS house to ‘play’. I make damn sure your kids never get close to him…just sayin’. You ARE NOT over-reacting at all.

Sari, glad the neighborhood may be getting cleaned up a bit (of course, you don’t know who may move into the drug house next…)

gotti, glad you’re safe, keep an eye on the winds…

FCM, I always liked 3 estimates. That way if one is $$ and the other two are $$$$, you can check on the cheap guy to see if he’s legit. Conversely, if two are low and one is way high, you can toss him right out…

Nut, glad the transportation situation was resolved.

Sub sammich is half consumed and need to refill my Pepsi, so all y’all take care.

Looks like we dodged a bullet. We had planned to spend this week out on the Oregon coast, but then my wife had some medical things happen that I noted earlier in this thread, so we cancelled. There are fire evacuations going on up and down the coast, and I-5 is closed in some places. Portland is grim with smokey skies and temps in the 90s, and there are fires in towns near us, but so far we’re safe. This is the worst conditions on the west side of the mountains in 120 years .

cat, have you tried da Jungle for canned pumpkin?
