Woo Hoo! Valentines into the mail this morning! They may get to their destination a bit late, but they’ll get there.
Wow Welby, that junior assistant manager definitely was a douche bag. Good for WelbyWife going off on him. Who ever heard of a restaurant not putting price increases on the menus?! Geeze!
Oh yeah, goiter is also caused by both hyper and hypo thyroidism, neither of which iodine helps, unfortunately. LOL
In anticipation of the coming winter storm, which the weather people are truly waffling about this time, I’ve already told my boss that I won’t be coming in tomorrow. I would go in if it was just going to be snow … well, unless they predict more than 4 inches, that is. But the latest I’ve heard, it’s supposed to start as snow, then change over to freezing rain and sleet. Which means ice, because the temps have dropped back below freezing. This after actually getting (relatively) warm and into the 40s earlier today. I can deal with snow, but not ice! As for Wednesday, I’ll see how things look.
So this evening, after stopping at the grocery store to get a few extras that we forgot yesterday, I decided it was the night to fix a nice drink. I retrieved my fifth of Seagrams Seven … which I had to wash the dust off of! laughs Yes, that’s right - it has been that long since I fixed an actual mixed drink. I’m working on a “highball” now - a jigger or so of the Seagrams in an ice-filled glass of ginger-ale, and it’s tasting pretty good. I have had a drink recently - my NYE Mimosa of OJ and champagne. I definitely don’t want this to become a nightly habit, though - too much alcoholism in my family. But a nice drink every now and then is okay for me, I think.
Oh yeah, Happy MMP all, and a very belated happy anniversary to the Rebo’s!
I know how you feel! I started one in IMHO a few days ago, asking for some advice about teaching demonstrations, and it sunk like a stone. I think the timing is half of it - sometimes new threads come up so fast that a few are bound to get lost in the stampede.
I am much happier than I was this morning, because I got my thesis proposal signed and turned in! And my thesis advisor LIKED IT. I was freaking out because my preceptor was being so negative about it, but you know what? She doesn’t know diddlysquat about Asian American literature. So she can kiss my ass. Muahahahahaha!
Emphasis mine. I’m thinking you better cut back on the nerve tonic, sugar-pie… Tell ya what - I’ll buy your first tank of gas, and I’ll bake you something. C’mon, you know you want to!
I got a response back about the craft show. $60 for a 4X8 plot of hallway. It’s being held in an elementary school in King George county, which is pretty much in the middle of nowhere. The likelihood of selling $60 worth of stuff in such a setting is not too high, so I can’t see spending good money to sit for 2 days. I need to scout out another not-too-expensive craft show.
Pizza and Beerverages will probably handle the last two. Sleep the first.
We’re under ‘storm watch’ again, which means my alarm gets set for 3 am, and I hit the roads to see if there’s gonna be school. There is, but it takes me to say so.
I will admit to not reading beyond the first dozen posts because I wanted to participate in the whine festival
now usually it’s my lower back, where the lst two or three vertibrae have been attacked by the arthritis; but today my upper back, between my shoulder blades, was in agony. I could not sit still, so I toughed it out as long as I could to finish a project I’d started at around 1pm, and left at 4pm. I was home, in bed, lying on a heating pad by 4:30.
But it still hurts. waaah
I have soooooooooooo much work to do this week it ain’t funny. Oddly enough, my current worry is what to wear to our department dance party on Friday. It’s supposed to be a bit silly, so I think a lot of people are coming in dresses from high school proms and stuff. I do have a Chinese chipao that is the height of Asian cliche, so I might wear that. Or I could just wear the dress I got last Saturday. I’ll post pictures later and y’all have to help me decide.
The mood of the MMP seems a bit blue today. Hugs and kisses to everyone!
Way back in the misty recesses of long ago, Ellen showed up in the MMP. She was real nice then like she’s real nice now. (She has brown eyes. Did you know that? It’s true. Ellen is a Brown Eyed Girl.) So, since she was (and is) nice, people would talk to her.
As is tradition, when you talk to people in the MMP, or on the 'Dope in general, you embolden their name. It’s a sign of respect. And it helps people pick out their name in the rest of the blah, blah, blah that is the average, run of the mill post. (Not that we get that here in the MMP, but it happens. It happens Out There.)
Only, this one time? I was emboldening Ellen’s name? And I ran out of emboldening? So instead of being “Ellen”? It was only “Ellen”? And it sorta stuck. (Like much of the MMP, things “stick” for no good reason. Like everyone getting nicknames on top of their screen names. It just works that way.)
Then, instead of just being “Ellen” (or even “Ellen” which is the real way it is) someone became “Ellen Cherry” (because cherries are red, duh). Since it’s way too hard to write out “Ellen Cherry”, it’s just (“just”, ha!) Ellen. The red runs out the same time the emboldenation does.
Had I really been thinking it probably should have been “LN”, but it’s way too late for that now.
Or rather “LN” because that way the “N” is “cherry”. “LN” = “L” “N” Cherry. But again, way too late for that now.
Okay, fifteenth try at posting this. The stupid hamsters keep telling me I’ve already posted it. 'Cept I haven’t, obviously. And it’s SO vitally important that I get these exact words up in the thread, after a…
Cute toddler, rosie!
Not one person commented on the pretty basketweave pattern I’m knitting into a scarf for Papa Tigs? I realize it was near the end of last week’s MMP, but I’m feeling insecure enouggh that I need some validation here, people!
I’m also only a few rows from the end of the first piece of the big wrap I’m knitting for myself – it’s lace-weight yarn and light as a feather, but the rows get longer and longer, and these last rows are close to 375 stitches each. Then, when I finish this chunk, I get to knit three more just like it. O frabjous day. But it’ll be worth it in the end, I keep telling myself!
I’ll buy you the second tank of gas, Swampy. I don’t think you’ll have much luck in the burly men department around here, unfortunately. But isn’t the satisfaction of knowing you’d bring so much joy to your friends enough to bring you here to clean for all of us? Plus it’ll keep you busy so you won’t get in trouble with all this free time on your hands! See, we’re just looking out for your welfare!
Rue showed! Rue showed! It’s getting almost like Cecil turning up!
I live in fear of welbywife. She’s very nice, but I sure, sure wouldn’t want her mad at me. Nu-uh. I would have liked to be there, though. That must have been great to watch.
Neurotic Co-Worker is Powermad and Neurotic. Tomorrow will be a joy. All day with her. And Wednesday. I’m going to shoot myself.
It’s lovely, MamaTigs. And it looks so warm! I’m hopeless at knitting, I can never get the patterns to come out so even like that.
I remember the knitting phase that swept Korean high school students in the late 90s. Every schoolgirl sat on the bus and knitted lopsided scarves for their hapless boyfriends. Those things were hideous.
Ah, validation. Whew. Thanks, rosie and Haze. (What, we don’t do colors for rosie? I always picture a pretty pink rose when I think rosie, hence rosie! Hey, it makes as much sense as Ellen!) I love the pattern – I’ll try to take an actual in-focus photo when I get it done. Which should probably be soon if he’s going to be able to wear it this year.
Hi, Rue! I feel so honored!
They’re predicting possibly 1/4 to 1/2 inch of ice for us Tuesday/Wednesday. I am hoping that the electric company tree-trimming that went on last year will last into this year; we managed to not lose power at all last year even when branches were falling all areas all around our immediate neighborhood. But we’re doing all the emergency prep just in case, obviously.
What I was going to post earlier, when the board was wonky:
Haven’t read in detail past the OP really (although I have to say IT’S NOT MY FAULT) cuz I’ve been busy since I got home. Noticed that welby had a story and that swampy has an interview on Thursday (yay! even if it weren’t interesting, it would be good practice). Also, that FCM won’t be financing swampy’s trip to Merrylande. Toddler is indeed cute.
Probably won’t get to catch up till tomorrow as brother is here (taking up valuable MMP time!).
*In the meantime, I have taken note that: *
Rue posted!!! (Rue who? OK…I’m just writing that cuz it rhymes); plus also, he told a story!!! 2) poor LiLi has to work with Neurotic Coworker who sounds about as fun as Jahdra’s former Annoying Coworker, and 3) the reminder from Mama Tigs, whose scarf I admired (both color and texture) in the old MMP, but evidently failed to mention. Also, 4) rosie definitely needs to be a darker shade in order to be legible. She also needs to feel better. And 5) I never noticed that Ellen was to be written only partly bolded and partly cherry. Guess I’ll have to stop priding myself on being detail oriented.
We’ll look forward to the dance wardrobe choices, Hank; you’ve probably noticed we’re really good at selecting stuff for people.
I, too, would like for it to be Friday as it is remotely possible that I’ll have a 4-day weekend.
Happy Monday! (How can I be tired when it’s only Monday?)
Yeah, that shade of pink turned out a bit more anemic than I’d expected. But I was too lazy to go find a darker shade, knowing others here would do my work for me. There’s a method to my madness, you see.
