I don’t see the crime in using cake mixes - someone else measured and mixed some of the ingredients, you add the rest. Is scooping out your own flour that big a deal??
Yeah, I’m a fan of mixes. I also use frozen pie crusts. I know how to make my own, but the frozen ones work just fine and taste just fine. I have nothing to prove.
Home and exhausted. I let Higgs have the run of the house overnight. Thanks to her, I’ve been up since 3:30. And she peed in the family room - lovely thing to wake up to. So she’ll be confined henceforth. If I had some doggy-downers, she’d get them, too. Stoopit dog.
I was going to have fish for supper, but as I was digging thru the freezer, a poke chop fell out to the floor, so that’ll be supper, with some fresh broccoli that I just bought, and some cukes, and some crescent rolls-n-butter. It almost sounds healthy! And while I was buying the broccoli and a few other things (yes, I remembered the dog food) I picked up some Klondike bars. Life is good!
My big plans for tomorrow involve stripping and remaking the bed - the covers smell like cats and dog - ick. I’ll also do some knitting - I want to take a batch of hats to my mom this weekend.
Got sprung from work early. Good thing, too, since DH isn’t home and maintenance needed to come by about a problem with the fridge (NBD, but we do need another crisper drawer). Once DH is home and maintenance has delivered the replacement drawer (or the old one fixed, I’m not that particular), we’ll figure out dinner and other needs.
I will not miss this year. In fact, I’ll be VERY happy to have 2013 in the rearview mirror. 2014 has GOT to be better (not sure it could be very much worse).
Pizza has been et. Collard greens are cooked. N.O.T. have been cooked and cooled down. Black-eyed peas have been looked over and are now soakin’. I shall make N.O.T. sallit in a bit. 'Tis a simple recipe. 5 lbs. new N.O.T. cleaned, boiled, cooled down and sliced. One bunvh of green onions chopped fine. 1/4 cup of mayo and 1/4 cup of veggie or olive oil. A little salt and a little fresh black pepper. Mix it all up and chill. A very light but nummy N.O.T. sallit.
OYKW just told me he’d start slicin’ up the N.O.T. while I chill for a bit. AWWWW!
N.O.T. sallit is made. Peas have been soaked and ready to slow cook tomorrow mornin’. Chikin’ is salted 'n peppered. Greens are cooked. Tomorrow is cook peas, fry chikin, cook rice, bake cornbread. A good start to the big NYD feast! Oh and Bloody Mary mix made.
yummy dinner of a spinach knish, kasha varnishkes, noodle kugel, and a couple of rugelach. Doctor Who on the telly and a purry kitteh who will be brushed as I watch the New Year’s ball fall. Good Night, Happy New Year, and all that rot.
Swampy I heard earlier that you shouldn’t eat chicken or turkey on New Years as it means you’ll have to scratch and peck for money all year. My friends was going to serve chicken salad sandwiches tomorrow but she switched to sliders. I’m bringing a tub of pork barbeque.
One year on New Years I had pickled herring for good luck. I think the good luck is keeping it down, especially after a night of drinking.
Greetings from Petoskey, MI. The dramatic side of the family pitched a fit last night because they didn’t like the hotel, didn’t like the town, and other imagined slights. They are theo es who wanted to ski, but they were quickly backing out.
By this morning, cooler heads had prevailed and they said they’d go try out the skiing.
Nephew had teh Sick, so he stayed home. By the time people were taking a break, everyone decided they would stay on for the torchlight parade and fireworks, so brother called to see if he wanted to join us. There was miscommunication and brother thought he wanted to come along, when in reality nephew had been sick again (reception was really bad). So three of us who weren’t skiing came back to (not) get him. Fortunately there were other items that needed to be collected and I decided to stay, because I’ve had a different Sick (more flu-ey) and was starting to cough more and have a headache. So, lots of commiseration with all the Sickies.
Happy Birthdays. Happy Anniversary. Happy in general.
It’s so quiet around here, it’s echoing. Time to go home. Other folks have invited folks over and have been cleaning and cooking. I’m prepared to be pleasantly surprised. There may be games.
I am so grateful to have a dog who doesn’t care about the noise from fireworks, even when he wasn’t half deaf he ignored the noise.
I’ve been pretty lucky that most of my dogs weren’t bothered.
