First, Hi to all the new people. There are quite a few this week. Welcome to the Mump!
That’s horrible! Sorry you had to go through that. You certainly didn’t need more frustration when you were already worried about your baby.

Welcome, Joey. It’s nice to see a fellow cheesehead in the MMP. I am originally from West Allis (a suburb of Milwaukee, for the non-Wisconsinites). Gotta say, I really don’t miss the “big city”. I think I know which hospital you might mean, and yeah I can also think of at least 6 more that would be at least faster, if not better.
Also welcome to all of the other new “cool kids”.
I spent the morning doing the 1040 thing, and am pleased to say that I am getting just about everything back and then some. Enough to clear all that is left of my debt, and maybe restart my savings again.
I’m thinkin’ these Bengals would be good house “pets”.
That’s all. I’m takin’ a nap.
You’d have to have a pretty big house.
Or did you mean one at a time?
This is exactly what the Wife is doing as we speak…well as I hunt & peck. We’re having 6 or so of our oldest, closest friends over tomorrow for the game, and she is deep cleaning, spit shining and all that. These are the same people that drop in for the hell of it whenever, and see the house as is whenever they come by.
Besides, it’s FOOTBALL dear, no need to obsess over recipes, I ordered a bunch of slabs of ribs from Famous Dave’s, we’ll have cornbread muffins and baked beans. Throw a bunch of chips and snacks on the table and we’re good.
Oh, and beer.
It was St Lukes South Shore (in Cudahy). When I asked her if I should go somewhere else, she got real snotty and asked where I would go. I started off by saying, “Well, how about the real St Lukes (on 27th)” She, snottily, replied that I would have to wait even longer if I go there. So I suggested Childrens, St Mary’s, Sinai, St Joes, Froedtart, Columbia. It was probably Childrens that got to her. From what I understand, if you go to Childrens, no matter how minor the issue, you’re triaged and being evaluated within minutes.
When I say snotty, I should add that it wasn’t just snotty, she asked me where I would go as if to imply that this was the only hospital within 100 miles. For the record, all the other hospitals I mentioned above are about a 15 minute drive from where I was at the time. Why can’t the baby just get sick during business hours?
Hello Joey P and Brown Eyed Girl! Welcome to the MMP. Don’t worry, we don’t bite. Unless you want us to.
Scurrying around getting house presentable for Dopers.
Well, I’m not a parent, but among my friends and relatives, I have yet to see a baby get sick, enough to have to see a doc, during office hours.
And we’re back from our trek! We did get to the Trader Joe’s, which I found smallish and crowded!! But they had a whole bunch of stuff, and some of it was rather reasonably priced. OMG, I got a small chocolate cake for $6.99 (chocolate/chocolate, btw :p); I also got some of the Trader Joe’s Greek yogurt - if you’ve never had any of this stuff, you should try it. It’s plain yogurt that’s been strained, so the consistency is like sour cream. It really is delicious. I eat it as is, although I do add fruit sometimes (I’m like that - I love plain yogurt!). We also had lunch out at a place called California Tortilla–it was good, but expensive for Mexican fast food, imho. I had a spinach quesadilla and a small guacamole, and the ques was served with salsa and sour cream. Very tasty, but expensive. The burrito my daughter had was just huge!
Been to post office, folded towels, got some lunch.
Thus has ended my activity for the day. I went to Trader Joes and couldn’t really find anything that I wanted.
I may sort out my pantry this afternoon or tackle my closet not to sure.
Welcome to our new cool kids!
Not much going on here, yet again. I’m feeling slightly hungry, so I may have get something to munch on.
The weather here is very cool and gray. They finally opened up Snoqualmie pass. It’s been shut down since Wednesday. They opened it briefly on Thursday, I think, but an avalanche promptly came down on two cars, so they shut the pass again. Anywho, tons of snow up there in the mountains and the skiers have been chomping at the bit to get there. I watched a bit on the news about it last night, and you couldn’t even tell there was a major interstate buried under all that snow.
I guess I better find something munch on. I think I have some bagels and cream cheese. Maybe I’ll have one.
Valentine lists have been compiled and distributed. I’m already thinking about how to do it more efficiently next year. I figure this is one of those things you do a few times so that you learn how to get it right and then pass it on to the next volunteer.
Welcome new people!! I’m not surprised that bbs2k is sending people here; I think he and LOUNE are recruiters.
Do they have Biggs anywhere but Cincinnati? As soon as I read about it I was pretty sure where you were from, Brown Eyes (we need a better nickname for you, but I’m too tired to think of one).
Is there a full moon? I think that’s the reason for all the crankiness with SOs.
Made it safely to the garden lectures this morning. They were really good. I couldn’t remember who was speaking today (I remembered the four lectures, but not when each one was), but it turned out that the ones I most wanted to hear were today (they were scheduled pretty well; they saved the best for last). First one was really knowledgeable with good pictures and ideas; second one was a pretty well-known (in these parts at least) horticulturist/stand-up comedian. We laughed a lot AND learned a lot (it was about diagnosing plant problems).
Sounds like the right way to handle the less than stellar medical attention, Joey. Glad the baby is better.
Guess I should think about what else to do today…
I’m sure I’ve missed lots - hugs and other appropriate greetings to all.
Back after a bit.
GT
OK, you can stay.
We’re home. With Dog. He will have a new name eventually, but he’s a real love, and one of these days, he’ll kick Scruffy’s ass! We spent a couple of hours with the lady who runs the rescue. She has 11 cats, 10 of them Bengals, so we got to see a variety of coats and colors and personalities, including the massively fat tuxedo cat who’s about 14!
What we’ve learned is that Bengals get into everything and they like to be up high. We’re to expect to find doors and drawers opened, stuff knocked on the floor, and lots of vocalizing. He took to **FCD ** right away, which is what I’d hoped. For now, he’s confined to the blue guest room with the cat tower set by the window, the litter box, food, water, and a scratching thingie. We probably need to get some of the jingle balls in there for him to play with. Over the next few days, we’ll introduce him to Bernie, then to Scruffy. With luck, in a week, we can let him have the run of the house.
Pics will be posted after he’s chilled enough that I can take a few. But he’s a beauty and a lover and I think he’s going to be a great addition to the zoo.
We also ran to my clay supply store and I got some tools and some clay stain. Then we went to Fells Point as saw my sister working at the Cat’s Eye. One BIL was there visiting, too, so we chatted with them a bit before grabbing lunch then heading back to meet Dog. It’s been a long day on the road, but a good one. And I’ve even emptied and filled the dishwasher - go me!
Bad day here. Hoping my evening out will improve my mood. Why is it that --oh, never mind. By the time I post all of this etc, I won’t want to post it. I have to go get dressed for going out. Must print out directions, too.
I will say hello to all the Dopers for the MMP. I do hope I find a parking place.
#1 son has two friends downstairs with him–all of them “playing” his electric guitar AND Guitar Hero. It’s getting um, loud. Time for me to go.
I’ll share . . . but you have to come to me.
Lounging is in full progress.
I am also shopping online.
I walked past and looked at my pantry a couple of times…I am still thinking about sorting it out
I was thinkin’ more along the lines of three or four at a time. Ya know, introduce 'em slowly so they become acclimated. Like one should do for all “pets”.
I grilled a big steak and we had steak sallits and cheesey bread for supper. Twas num. Tomorrow is brunch Sunday, so I’ve also made a ‘nanner puddin’ to take. A smaller one was also made just for ol’ y’all know who. With the way I’m workin’ these days, I have not been able to do a whole lot of spoilin’ so I had to make him one of his very own. Besides, there will be much “appreciation” later tonight.
Yay for “Dog” Moooooom. If y’all do rename him do name him “Cat” cause that’d be to predictable. Don’t name him “Mr. Snugglepuss” either. This will cause him to plot a most horrid manner for your demise.
Now that I’ve gotten caught up - welcome to all new mumpers!
I just ate an apple, and while it was good, it wasn’t satisfying. I don’t know what I want, but it wasn’t an apple.
**MBG ** - You’ve got Famous Dave’s there? Ain’t they great?!?!? Last month, we discovered one not too far from us (but far enough that we won’t overdo it.) Maybe what I want is ribs??
Stoopit dogs don’t seem to have figured out that there’s a new critter in the house. When **FCD ** went to check on him, he was still under the bed. We need a new name - Dog doesn’t work for us. I suggested Doug, but I was voted down. Guess who will be cleaning the litter box from now on?
I’m back.
