The storms didn’t hit down here in south Jawja. It was really warm though. I think yesterday’s high hit around 84. I don’t know if’n it did or not cause I did indeed spend the day cookin’. We made enough corned beef and cabbage, stew and smashed N.O.T. to feel 125 people. Plus, as is our tradition, additional corned beef briskets that folks could take home for the mere donation of seven bucks. Several people [del]got drafted[/del] volunteered to bring desserts. One person brought two “adults only” cakes. MMMMMMM… were they ever good! One of the cakes has Irish whiskey in the batter plus she injects a little more whiskey into the layers once they’re done and cooled. WOOHOO!!! And yes, there was a keg of green beer and no I did not get all drunken. I was in church after all! Sheesh people gimme credit for some decorum. Oh and the best part was, we had a separate clean up crew. I think that’s a fair deal. Plus it meant I could get outta there which I did around eightish. I woulda posted last night but I was tahred!
I tried to post yesterday mornin’ but couldn’t get the Dope to load. Does anybody know if the board was down around seven yesterday mornin’? I mean I couldn’t even get the straightdope front page to come up. So I gave up.
We’ve been invitated to N.O.L. after church today. YAY! No cookin’ for me. ‘Tis Palm Sunday which means we get to do a big processional into the church holdin’ palm leaves whilst we sing this hymn. Who says we Whiskypalians don’t know how to have a good time!
swampster, the Dope was indeed down till almost noon yesterday. But if I had my way, it’d be set up to deny you access randomly, just to mess with you.
OK, maybe not.
Oven is pre-heating for my yummerrific casserole. Taz is batting a twist tie around the kitchen floor - he is so easily amused! **FCD ** is still crashed, but I’ll be waking him up to enjoy breakfast. He’s got another half an hour or so.
Meanwhile, I think I need a shower. I mean, I know I need a shower, but I think I’ll shower now. Ta!
FCM’s French Toast Casserole is teh yummmmm. I took it to a brunch a while back and got all sorts of requests for the recipe. I cheated and made it with cinnamon swirl bread (can’t remember if I cut the slices in 1/2s or 1/4s). Also, I used Penzey’s Baking Spice. Very successful.
MsW that Lego competition sounds like fun! And, in case you haven’t noticed, jumping in with something that isn’t part of the current topic is actually expected. Trash-talking and 6-year-olds sounds like a challenge. My 9-year-old nephew brought a box filled with Legos with him this weekend. They’re currently on the dining room table.
I’ve been awake since 5 or so. We got home around 10:30 last night; after I dragged the kids to a volunteer meeting (where they watched Harry Potter and helped make sandwiches in the background), we went over to visit friends and wound up staying for dinner. The kids really like each other and only get to see each other about twice a year, so they didn’t want to leave. I had fun chatting with Mom; we live very different lives, but can always find something to talk about.
Hugs for Pie.
Hi kai!
Now I’m getting sleepy again. Let’s see if I’m allowed to sleep a bit more. It’s really a good thing that I’m not a parent. I’d be grumpy all the time.
We did indeed go out last night. Except we’re so old that we couldn’t quite make it for the third set. I think we got back here at about 1 a.m. The band was pretty good, however, this bar really is not setup with a stage and the way that they had to place their sound equipment made everything sound hollow and somewhat distorted. They weren’t real happy about it either. Also, the lead singer had a bit of a cold. He sounded decent, but probably only about 90% of how he normally sounds. But, in general, they are pretty awesome and we will go back again. As a matter of fact, they play in Akron every couple months and next time we’re going to try to see them there and invite some of my friends to go with us! Also, I ‘officially’ introduced myself to the lead guitarist (we had only talked online before) and we talked about going to that new church next sunday. Ah, the irony. So, I’m looking forward to that and TVMan didn’t even sound too resistant when I asked him to go with me. (Churches, you see, are all run by The Man etc., etc.)
I had a good 9 hours sleep - helped along by a couple of Mike’s, my pain pills, and a nice spring breeze wafting in through the window . . . so why am I so freakin’ tired?
Mornin’ Mumpers. I have to work from 6-10 tonight to make up for the Sunday I had the Death Plague a few weeks ago. Plus the storms last night washed away all the warm weather we had yesterday. May not be a bad thing, I found out that the shampoo I’m using right now attracts pollinator flies.
Complicated Roommate and I went to the K-Dub for breakfast which was teh yum. This is where I get back at everyone singing the praises of Tim Horton’s coffee. Y’all don’t have K-Dub breakfasts.
Spaz, I’m jealous. Well… as jealous as someone could be when they’ve had yummy steel cut oats cooked flavoured with dried cranberries, blueberries, cinnamon, cardamom and brown sugar, that is.
It’s another beautiful day in the neighbourhood. I’m off to pick up a package of vintage patterns that were mailed to my old address by mistake, as well as any other mail that may have ended up there in the last month or two.
Then I’ve got a whole afternoon to myself… The Boy is going uptown for a tux fitting (one of his good buddies is getting married this summer, and he’ll be in the wedding party). Incidentally, I’m secretly hoping that the colours for the bridal party match something I already own - I nearly went broke buying dresses, shoes and handbags for the Summer of Four Weddings two years ago, thankyouverymuch.
So, the question is… do I spend my lovely afternoon wandering around enjoying the spring weather, or do I make it a productive one by giving the kitchen a good clean and getting started on a sewing project? Tough call.
Hey swampy! Guess what song we started out with at church today. Go ahead. Just take a wild guess! We always start Palm Sunday out with the Baptists next door and the Whiskypalians from across the parking lot and sing a song that all of us are likely to know (although there are always leaflets with the words).
Not speaking to The Man, beebs?
Gotta go get stuff done. Laundry, for instance, would be good.
I just got some weird email totally cussing me out about how my class sucks and I’m full of “fucking bullshit.” It’s weird because it’s a very small class and the name it was sent under belongs to a Chinese girl who doesn’t even speak English very well. There is no way it could have been her - she just doesn’t have the language skills to write an email like that. There’s only one student in that class that might have done this - I only say that because I barely know him, since he doesn’t come to class very often - but in order to pull it off he would have to know the Chinese girl’s name - in CHINESE, since that how it was signed; I only recognized it because I happpen to read Chinese - and know her email address as well, since it was very similar to her real one (for example, if her real email address is hazel123@somewhere.com, the insulting email was sent from hazel_123@somewhereelse.com). And anyway, how would he know my class is “fucking bullshit”? He’s been to like three of them, total. I don’t think it’s him either, since he seems pretty apathetic about it all. But who knows.
I suppose I’ll have to report this on Monday. Ugh. I wasn’t feeling exactly cheerful today, but the email really pissed me off.
Howdy, all. I’m a slug, too – I got up at 8:00 and let the dogs out, then slept till nearly noon. It was loverly. I feel slept out for the first time in weeks.
Papa Tigs just came home from Sam’s with something I’m not sure I’ve ever seen, although I’ve heard him talk about often enough from his years in Asia – four-count prawns! I.e., jumbo shrimp that are so big they’re four to the pound! We’re talking shrimp the size of your fist! Omigod, I am drooling on my keyboard! And he also brought home two red crab legs. At least two feet long, and an inch or more across! I’m sure Kai is used to them that size, but I haven’t seen them that big since I was a kid living in Seattle! I am DYING here! Of pure bliss, need I add!
I guess I’ll forgive you, Muppet, for not liking Great Big Sea with your bad associations. Fortunately, I don’t have your problem. I associate them with nothing but fun and Vertical Motion.
There was a guy who lived down the hall from me in college who used to build whole little cities out of Legos. White Legos, to be specific. He did an amazing job, too. But his Legos got all burned up when his roommate got stoned and set the room on fire (by twisting up a large garbage bag, hanging it over a wastebasket of water, and setting the bottom alight – “Cool, man! Look at all the neat colors! Trails! Oops, the room is on fire!” <g>) Anyway, he was really weird. But he made cool cities out of Legos. (Yeah, I’m revealing my age, aren’t I? <g>) I’m sorry your son got discouraged by the trash-talker, but hopefully next year he’ll get the best revenge, by winning the whole thing!
I guess I should go do something constructive. Like finish this Smithsonian inteview that I really, really should turn in by tomorrow. It’s not that it’s difficult; au contraire, it’s quite interesting. It’s just that I Don’t Wanna. Even if our spring weather got too cold to open the windows again today. Fortunately, most of the next week looks good for fresh air. I loves me some springtime fresh air!
I tried to post earlier but the board was screwing up. So I’ll try again.
So much for spring! We got a couple of inches of snow yesterday. It does look prettier, since the older dirty snow is covered up. Apparently this is normal weather for this time of year, in that you don’t know WTF it’s going to do next.
Nope, not in the bridal party, so I’m not actually obliged to match. I just want to make sure I look purty when I’m standing next to The Boy in photos.
It’s just my Thing. I feel a little uncomfortable when I don’t feel like I’m appropriately dressed, and one of the factors for “appropriate” is making sure I don’t clash with The Boy’s outfit if we’re going someplace special. Yes, I know it’s weird.
(When we first met, The Boy’s only suit was a lovely shade of eggplant purple… can you imagine how hard it is to find dresses that go with eggplant purple, besides the usual black? Oy)
