Oh, could you add another guest to our count? A few of you might remember my friend Dave from my Fall Foliage in the Mountains Fest. We’re bringing him along.
He can take the place of my Dave, as he’s got to work.
All of the chili makings were secured this evening, so tomorrow night will be cookitude-two crocks worth. NOAA says chance of rain Sat morning before 8AM, and otherwise a chance of t-storms in the afternoon-true darn near any day it’s this hot.
Lacking virgins and volcanoes in which to sacrifice them (why waste a perfectly good virgin that way? ) we’ll just have to cross our fingers and hope for good weather.
Bummer. Tell him he’ll be missed.
Apple cake just came out of the oven.
Ginger, I just e-mailed you.
I realize that train tickets to you are going to be a bit expensive. I assume you don’t want to drive south into DC to drive north to the event, so I’m wondering if anyone in DC or NoVa has room for a BlueKangaroo and her desserts.
Let me know if you are willing to come get me.
If not, AnitaVacation and Triskadecamus, do you have room?
Probably (we still have one passenger up in the air). The best arrangement would probably be to pick you up at the Vienna Metro station around 10am. Can you manage that?
I don’t see any reason why I can’t (except for the whole not a morning person part), so I’ll e-mail you.
I’m not going to make it, sorry!
My wife will be making the eggrolls Saturday morning, so they will be nice and fresh, and possibly still warm. Is there anything else we need to bring? We don’t live far and a folding card table and chairs will fit in the back of the van.
I did a dry run for the moon pies and the crusts didn’t work out well for travelling, so I am turning my apple filling into apple cobbler. The pasta salad is done, as well as the cookies. Is there anything else that we should bring with us?
What sort of facilities, etc, are located at this park? Is there a pool or pond? I note that there are pavillions and playgrounds, but what else is there?
What, you need entertainment beyond that provided by your fellow Dopers? Harrumph!
Actually – not much. It’s just a city park/picnic site type place. Bathrooms, roofed picnic tables, some playground equipment for the kids, grills – that really is about it.
Remember the book exchange everyone!
I’m riding out with Scuba_Ben – we’re shooting to get there about noon.
Happy Gettysdope Eve, all!
Trust me, I am more than content to hang out with fellow Dopers and yak while enjoying good food! But, if the kids come along they are easily bored. Nothing could be worse than bored teenagers!
While the pavillion is covered completely by a roof, I do recall that last year we spilled over considerably. So in addition to the roles of “Food Mod” and “Bozo Bus Driver” I’ll volunteer to be “Mother Hen” now and remind everyone:
Bring a hat and wear sunscreen. This is “Gettysdope” not “Gettaburn” for cryin’ out loud!
One trick we used to have a family reunions was to have the older kids teach the younger kids some skits and have them perform them for the adults.
Very true!
Some of the Dopers in attendance will be late teens early 20s, so they might find folks of the non-geezer persuasion to talk to. One of Norinew’s kids is a teen, IIRC, though I believe most of the offspring in attendance will be single-digit types. Also, we’re not far from “downtown” Gettysburg, with lots of shops, etc., so they could go bum around there for a while.
Or, eff 'em, leave 'em home.
Not having been able to secure take-out clamshell containers (I’ve been busy and unable to go with my MiL to BJ’s), I’m bringing 30 sets of those Hefty interlocking plates (Giant has them on sale this week), one large roll of Saran wrap and one large roll of foil.
Also, if everyone who volunteered to bring drinks could please bring water as well, that would be wonderful. I don’t want people going to the hospital with dehydration, so everyone needs to drink lots of water.
Robin
I’ll bring my multi-gallon water jug.
I’m also bringing a few games from Looney Labs and Cheapass, and Siege said she’s bringing her Fluxx deck. Does anybody have Cranium Command? a luggable stereo?
I am bringing a big orange water cooler, of the type that construction companies use, complete with cup dispenser. I will fill it with ice and water, which we will have to stop and get, just before we arive. Or, if anyone has extra ice available, we could use that instead.
Tris.
