Would it excite you all if I mentioned that Gettsburg is on my short list of places to locate my new start up? Just had an enchanting discussion with the Adams County Economic Development folks and they were very encouraging.
Cool! Does this mean you, the lovely Lady Chance, and the Chancelings will be doing an investigatory trip around, say, July 23rd?
Only if you’re coming to the party.
To Anita Vacation and danceswithcats: I simply do not yet know when I’ll be gone. If I’m here for it, I’m here. I would like to be, but just don’t know yet. It depends on other people as well, not just myself, when I head home.
I’m considering making a three-stop weekend out of it- first, we’ll go to Aberdeen Proving Grounds, if we can get in to see the tank field; then to Antietam, and up the pike to Gettysburg.
How many Yankees are going to show up? How many Rebels? It’s hard to tell with the witty comments people have in their location boxes. For the record, I’m a Yankee (born in NY State.)
I’m not doing chicken this year. As a matter of fact, the deep fryer pan was misplaced when we came back, and as a consequence it didn’t get cleaned out. When I discovered it a few months later…
I got there too late last year for most of the other food; it seems that the scenic route is actually faster than using the turnpike.
No chicken? Damn, that was some seriously excellent chicken.
bump
Since we’ve got to have a date to reserve the pavilion and everything, we’re thinking July 23 works best for most people, so we’re going with that date.
Food, etc. to be determined. Last year’s chili-and-chicken thing worked out well.

If Verrain and I haven’t moved on to Nashville by then, we’ll be there. It WOULD be a great way to say good-bye to everyone.
Nashville? Not Minnesota?
Nope, not Minnesota. The lab in Nashville is able to give Rich a lot more of the experience than the one in Nashville would. Granted, we haven’t heard from the Mayo Clinic lab yet, but we aren’t waiting either. Vanderbilt just impressed the hell out of him. (Add to that the fact that Rich will be near his best friend again, so that makes it a gimme for him.)
At some point between now and then, I definitely want to do some form of get together here in Philly for as many people as we can get together. I just don’t have dates yet.
OK, I’m officially in. Leave appied for, and I am road testing potato salad once a week until then.
Unless everyone really wants me to bring Kimche again.
I am certainly willing to ride share with up to three folks, or one or two folks with attendent folklings. Pick up near Fairfax, or the Vienna Metro station for more distant dopers.
I have a big Water cooler, which I intend to use to cool my food, which will then contain clean ice, and water. (I will wash the potato salad container quite well, don’t worry.) Anything else I should bring?
I will also bring my camera, and try to upload the best dozen or so shots before going to bed that night.
Tris
OK…
danceswithcats check your e-mail again.
Tris, please, no kimchee. Potato salad is more than sufficient, and goes better with most outdoor entrees besides. (Oh, and I’ve got something for you.)
If everyone could send an e-mail to gettysdope@yahoo.com with a rough idea of what you’re bringing, it’ll help with the organization. You’re not married to this; it’ll just give us some idea of who’s bringing what, and to help us build a list of who’s coming to facilitate things like directions and reminders and what-not.
Robin
pout but I liked the kimche! It had that wonderful cabbagey yum!
Good thing the cats don’t mind.
Robin
I’m glad someone liked it. I personally didn’t want to even be downwind of the stuff.
However, I did appreciate that someone tried to bring something from another culture to the event, even if it wasn’t to my personal liking.
I’m being facetious when I tease about the kimchee. Lord knows I’m guilty of eating some fairly offensive ethnic food. Ask Airman about the three jars of gefilte fish in our cabinet.
Robin
No kimche?!? I’m out.
Actually, with all the conversion stuff going on at work, my weekends are either tied up there or squeezing in some family time. Last year was fun, and I regret not being able to attend this year.
Have a great time, all who attend. Hopefully, the weather will be as gracious as it was last year.
Hey, by popular demand, I will bring enough kimche for fifty people. Judging by last year, a pint should do fine. I will place it on the leaward end of the table.
I will bring potato salad too, for the faint of heart.
Tris
I can eat a pint of kimchee, I think!
And I’m definitely going to come, barring something unforseen. No idea what I’ll bring. I’m trying to talk Blue Kangaroo and the Kangaroo in Black into coming with me, but it’s close to their anniversary trip.
I’m in with a gentleman or two. I’m not sure if anything I brought was eaten last year (it was cheese bread and sausage rolls). How about I bring a plate of brownies?
Since one of the gentlemen writes military fiction under the name H. Jay Riker, our plan is still to rent a room or two in Gettysburg and do a tour of the battlefield on Sunday, if anyone’s interested in joining us.
I also spoke to Polycarp’s wife this weekend and strongly encouraged both of them to come.
