Well I am home from the house hunting.
I don’t even remember how many houses we looked at.
I really really liked the Victorian. The pictures were so pretty.
So we get there and it’s next to the cemetery, it’ll be quiet on that side (or at least one hopes so).
Beautiful stained glass door, beautiful stained glass windows.
French doors between the living room and dining room.
Off street parking and small fenced in yard.
And probably needs $50,000 worth of work just to make it livable.
I didn’t even go upstairs because I was scared of the steps.
I still like it, but damn it was a mess.
It has 2 bedrooms and one bath.
Then I went and looked at another house, I think it’s still considered a Victorian. Big bay window in the front. Four bedrooms and two baths, one of the full baths is on the first floor.
The fixtures are new, it’s livable, a little more house than I need but it needs a lot of work.
The layout was nice. The kitchen has been mostly done and is decent.
It’s a mess but I could live on the first floor and fix it up and get to the second floor later.
It listing says it has 4 bedrooms and 2 baths. It has a living room, kitchen, bathroom, two small rooms and an enclosed addition on the on the first floor. Three bedrooms, a full bath and porch on the second floor. Then a finished room in the attic.
Big house, more than I need. Fenced in yard and some kind of parking in the back along with a shed that looks like it’s falling down.
I skipped the one I could pay cash for.
It was kind of sad, the neighborhood had some beautiful houses but most of the houses were boarded up and it looked like the house had squatters living in it. Somebody had jammed something in the lock and trash was everywhere.
Another one, I don’t know the style.
Two story brick house, not the prettiest house but you could tell somebody had been working on it. All it looks like it really needs is paint, the floors finished and appliances installed. It had a new roof, new windows. The bathroom is new.
Two bedrooms and one bath, almost no yard because that is where I would have to park.
I really liked it except a GoodWill warehouse and JIffy Lube are across the street and it looks like a boarding house is 3 doors down. The laundrymat is conveniently located next door.
Some mostly toothless man stopped us as we were coming out and asked us if could do some work for a few dollars. he showed us the work he had done and he had done a pretty good job of it. I asked him what it was like living there and he said except for the homeless people using the playground/park behind it as a bathroom it was pretty quiet.
Kind of a shame because I liked the house.
So we stopped at the next one, a three bedroom, three bath single family home. We couldn’t get into it but the house next door was for sale.
Beautiful, just about ready to move in. Nice yard, still in my price range, end of unit with two bedrooms and one bath.
The only thing wrong it that it is on a busy street and while it has new windows vinyl siding, they didn’t do the wood around the windows so all the trim needs to be scraped and painted.
Another one was just horrible, right down from this one. It was half the price but it would probably take more than the difference to make it nice and it was smaller and the traffic was even worse on that part of the street. There was a hole from the the kitchen to the upstairs bedroom, it had some kind of flange thing around it so I’m sure the hole served some kind of purpose. Maybe back in the old days to get heat from the kitchen to the bedrooms?
Anyway, it had some features that I liked but it needed way too much work and was small.
So at least I have an idea of what is available for what price.
I was hoping to stay at the lower end of my budget but I think I am going to have to come up.
