I’ve had a fairly quiet day. I’ve been paying bills and cruising the 'net.
My daughter wasn’t happy with breakfast choices around the house, so she opted to go to Mickey D’s and pick up egg mcmuffins for us. I thought that was nice of her.
My mother called this morning. Mainly to try and lay a guilt trip on me because I didn’t call her yesterday on her birthday. I tried several times, but every time I had the phone in my hand to call her, someone walked into my office. I knew she was going out last night, so didn’t call her then either.
At any rate, I apologized to her, and tried to explain how busy I was, but she still felt butt hurt.
I just had the nodules on my thyroid checked out via ultrasound (at my Endo’s behest) and got the results yesterday. No changes in size, so now I don’t have worry about it for another two years.
I hope they can find out what’s going on with yours, Puggy, and get you squared away.
Thanks, gt. I can vouch for the fact that they not only look yummy, they taste awfully yummy too.
LiLi, I vote for the caramel truffles. It might be a tetch messier than the Oreo balls, but also much more impressive. I’d probably add some booze while I was at it… a splash of whiskey makes everything better.
(also, I’d be happy to eat any misshapen rejects, so as to save you the humiliation of giving them out as gifts… aren’t I awesome?)
I’m glad y’all have had a quiet Veterans/Remembrance/Armistice Day. I’ve been watching the animals walk by two by two.
The ghost of Ida is hitting us now, and a noreaster is supposed to form off Cape Hatteras tonight. By the time everything clears out Firday night, 10-12 inches of rain are expected, with high tides 7 feet above normal. Man o man, am I glad the VunderLair is on a high sandbar in the middle of a swamp…
Mooooooom, Armistice Day, really? Are you old enough to be born pre-WW2?
I looked it up - it was changed from Armistice Day to Veterans Day in November of 1954, so it was during my lifetime… barely. I thought for sure we called it Armistice Day when I was in school.
We’re getting the soggies also - no idea how much we’re expecting before it’s all done, but the temps are in the 40s, so it’s just nasty out - the kind of cold and damp that reaches to your innards.
I’ve got some oatmeal bars in the oven - if they’re any good, I’ll share the recipe.
Nothing else has gotten done in the bathroom - I just couldn’t get motivated. Maybe I’ll clean a little more later. Or not. Who can say?
Howdy Y’all! Home, new washer installed and lasagna bakin’ away in the oven. MMMMMMMMM…
I made a batch of easy tomato sauce and it’s so good, nuttin’ would do but to make lasagna, right? Ok, I had thawed out ground beast and was either gonna make it into sketties or burgers. However, it’s cool, rainy and ick out so I decided we needed the warmth and comfort of homemade lasagna and since I just happened to have all the ingredients at hand, VOILA! I made a green sallit and will toast up some garlic bread in a while. Da cave smells sooooooooooooo goooooooooooooood! I’s hongry and it won’t be done for another hour. Woe is me!
Happy Veterans/Rememberance Day all you vets! Thanks for all your service.
LiLi I vote for oreo treats just cause they sound so good!
Puggy hope the thyroid settles down soon.
Dotty forgive me but I laughed.
MBG idjits abound. Voicemail is stoopid. 'Nuff said.
Everybody else, yay, boo, hugs, noogies, trouts, chitlins, how you doin’s. Distribute needed.
Home! Long day. The energy drink helped, but I swear it could double as a diuretic. I must have went pee half a dozen times this afternoon alone.
Came home, checked my E-Mail. My old blog, despite being inactive, is still getting spam comments. They’re still moderated so I have to spam them manually when they come in. So what do I get? A generic “good bllog thank you for your wonderful information !” type thing with this URL:
Okay, seriously? Seriously? Aren’t URLs supposed to entice clicks? Who the hell is going to click on that? Even for the morbidly curious that can’t be enticing.
LiLi - Ah, so we have different names for the same holiday. That’s just kind of weird. Was it always that way or did it get renamed like the US?
Here’s a puzzler for you - I’m definitely needing help with it because I am currently WAY under the weather.
I’ve now been out 3 days. Since this bugger isn’t going away, I will be out tomorrow, too. I called HR to ask what our policies regarding extended time out are. If we are out more than 3 days, we need to bring a doctor’s note when we go back in. However, the doctor’s office (as most these days) REALLY does not want me waltzing into their office shedding H1N1 virus. So, once I get better, I’m supposed to take MORE time off to go get a note.
(Luckily, my doctor is a quite overworked peach. She is writing the note, open ended, and leaving it at the front desk. She isn’t requiring a visit! [unless this goes past 10 days, in which case she insists])
Why wouldn’t a company that insists that you not come in until you have been fever free for 24 hours not relax the rules in the midst of a flu pandemic? Why stress the medical system even worse?
We had good sloppy joes and beans and chips. I’s stuffded. We’re watching Up - cute movie. I’ll assume the knit position shortly. At least there are just 2 more days till the weekend.
I can’t speak for your company, but I can tell you why mine would - after three days consecutive absence, I’m officially on Short Term Disability, which is an outsourced service.
That means a totally different company becomes responsible for taking my sick calls and coughing up my usual paycheque. And said company doesn’t give a rat’s ass if I infect the rest of the company, so long as they’re able to follow SOP… which boils down to making it more bothersome to stay home than it is to go to work, so’s that I can stop costing them money.
They’ve also decided that we should use vacation time if we need to get the H1N1 vaccine, which currently involves spending a good half-day in a lineup at the clinic.
Oh, hells bells - I didn’t even think to ask about Short Term Disability (STD??). I don’t have a hardcopy of the new handbook (as of last week) to check. Thanks for reminding me I just assumed (as of noon my remaining PTO is obliterated) that I’d be going broke.
Because they’re related to those other companies whose IT-quality control procedures mean that in case of fire you can get things done in a minimum of 3 workdays, yet a different part of the IT-QC says that you’ll solve urgent things in less than 4 hours, semi-urgent in less than 24.
Some managers consider their company to be above the laws of physics. Physics doesn’t give a shit.
Here in the UK it’s Armistice Day. I was supposed to have one class but it’s been cancelled. I’ve got “big essays that are graded” for three courses: already finished one, but I can’t hand it in because the course office doesn’t have a sign-in sheet (which means I’ll have to reprint it once it can be handed in, as it’s dated); the second one, I can’t start the final version until I’ve got the go-ahead from the teacher (ETA Nov 23), and I haven’t started the third one (I didn’t even have the materials, as the teacher had miscounted, got them from a classmate yesterday) but it shouldn’t take me long. Thinking of going downtown…
