The new Straight Dope administrator ...

Okay, the day’s getting away from me here …

I thank everyone who has had such nice things to say. I might not be able to get to all of you personally but please know how much I appreciate each and everyone who takes time and effort and is here, especially after all these years.

You all prove to me once again that Dopers are the BEST.

And most of all, Hail Cecil and Ed, for all they’ve done, for all they’ve been, for what might yet be. Can’t thank 'em enough.

I could but then I’d have to shoot you.

Bring your friends. If some of your friends are Dopers who have wandered off, ask 'em to come home. I would love to see our regular regulars, old familiar faces, and new names – and lots of everybody.

Awright, Jen, it worked. You roped me back in. 15-20 years of blessed sanity shot to bits. It’s as pandemonious as I remember but what impressed me the most was that the Grand Central Scrutinizer remembered my UN and PW.

Y’all in a mess of hurt now.

Somehow I think lack of opinions is not likely to be a problem.

All seriousness aside - [ul][li]congratulations[/ul][ul][] thank you[/ul][ul][]and may God have mercy on your soul.[/ul][/li]Regards,
Shodan

PS - can we say “f*ck you” in the Pit again?

24 hours Under New Management and I’ve already had a tiny bit of my ignorance fought. Guess I might as well stay around awhile longer!

I wish I had a classic mug !
Perhaps we sell both?

Oh, Canada?

From one tuba player to another: congratulations.

Re: conical bores. Yes, a cornet can be considered a tuba (not), but a fluegelhorn is closer. The bore is more conical on a fluegel. I know guys who have “soprano tubas” made from fluegel parts. Mostly trumpet players who want to be cool.

Besides, the word “fluegelhorn” is an awful lot of fun to say.

Would probably go over real big at New Orleans funerals à la “Live and Let Die.”

Tom!!! Made my day.

I always appreciate seeing you under any circumstances and this is good news.

Love to you and Linnie, always.

Ally ally oxen free, everybody. Come on home!

Heh, I’ll take prayers. Good thoughts. Best wishes. I need 'em.

I’m not here to change policies forged in blood. I’m not going to be a full or even a part time moderator here – emergencies/fill in only, spot check, there’s too much else on my plate – and we have great moderators here, I mostly need to stay out of their way and let them do their thing.

Not going to add to the burdens of the people that do police this joint daily. Miller has enough on him as it is keeping an eye on the hot n’ heavy action in the confines of the Pit.

Besides, when you get to the FY part you’ve pretty much run out of argument anyway, no?

Are you tooting your own horn?

Here’s a real NOLA Second Line. This was for Allen Toussaint, piano player and songwriter of much acclaim, and he was carried to his rest by an assortment of the Crescent City’s finest …

The tune up front is "Preservation Hall Dirge." Followed by the standard "Didn't He Ramble." *His head was in the marketplace and his feet wuz in the street ... *

Hey man! Hope all is well with you. Still playing in the street?

You know what’s even more fun to say? “Flumpet.” Like Art Farmer used to play …

That was a wonderful story. Thanks for sharing it.

I haven’t posted here in a while, but I wanted to pop in to say congrats and best wishes.

It’s always great to see someone who cares so much about a place. It’s also nice to see so many names I haven’t seen around much before.

Congrats, my friend!!! It’s wonderful to see you, and my very best wishes to you on your new role!

Congratulations! Oh, and I heard a rumor that Cecil’s sister Cecilia was going to stop by. And word on that?

Flumpet! Haha! Sounds like a Seuss creation.

Congrats-a-million, TubaDiva. I was trying to find out how much to hollow out the earth and clicked the wrong link. teehee But this is a very exciting thread, so I don’t mind. I do not play the tuba and I think you’re gonna have trouble teaching me since my piano teacher fired me and my Spanish teacher had a nervous breakdown. But I do still have an aol email address. :stuck_out_tongue:

Congratulations (I think :p), Jenny! You would be my choice, tho’ it send you to an earlier grave than expected.

Very cool. Congrats. So what are you changing first? Remember a new home isn’t yours until you accidentally put an elbow through the wall.
