BooFae, here’s hope that your floods stop soon.
**SCL ** - oh my, your friends are in my thoughts for their health issues
My friend asked me last night to take a trip with her for her birthday. We’ll go down to Columbus to visit another friend at OSU and stay the night with her so we can go out and celebrate in a proper fashion. I’m excited! First time the husband and I will have spent a night apart since we got married, though!
I made a meatloaf in my slow cooker last night for dinner, and it was super good. I can’t say enough good things about Crock-Pots. This is the second time I’ve made it like that and I can barely lift it out of the pot, it’s so tender by the end of the day. And it’s so easy, I can barely take credit for the yum.
And by the way…I’ve noticed a suspicious amount of working and sleeping among the MMPers, while I’m still waiting for a nickname…priorities, people! taps foot, looks at watch
I think Mr. Lissar is just exhausted. He’s been working, coming home from work, and teachign three and a half hours of class every night for two weeks, plus five hours on Saturday. It’s ridiculous.
Home from the doctor’s, heard the kidlet’s heartbeat, and now I’m off to buy glasses. Or order glasses. Being nearly blind means it usually takes a loooong time to get glasses made.
I just got a letter from the state Dept. of Revenue, saying I owe them over $200. :dubious: It’s not a good sign when you get a little envelope from the tax people, and it says “Personal and Confidential.” Very ominous. At first I thought they wanted more money, so I was kinda freaking out, a little bit. But I looked at my tax return, and it’s the amount I was supposed to pay, nothing more. I thought to myself, I’m pretty sure I paid my taxes in April. It’s kind of hard to forget that. I’m a bit absent-minded sometimes, but not that forgetful. I checked my bank account online, and sure enough, there’s the canceled check. So I downloaded the pdf and called the Dept. of Revenue and gave them the number off of the canceled check, so hopefully it’s all taken care of. I’ll have to call them back next month and make sure it’s been done. I’m not expecting miracles, so I’ll probably have to go through the same song and dance again. At least they’re not charging me penalties and interest (which is good, because it was completely their fault).
Haze, I’m glad I’m not the only unproductive person here. I’ve been intensely unproductive today. I need to go do some actual work. What I really want to do is make chocolate pudding. Warm chocolate pudding is so lovely. Maybe some hot chocolate would work.
Bye, rigs! Have a good trip. Don’t tease the TSA people–they look cute and cuddly, but they can be vicious if provoked with bottles of water or tiny nail clippers.
OK, you asked for it. This page and all of the sub albums show a lot of my works and a couple of shows that I did. And if I ever get my buns in gear - maybe this weekend - I’m going to pull out some pieces to give away to various and sundry MMPers and other Dopers for the low low price of whatever the postage is. I need to thin my inventory and some of the pieces are from my “primitive” period (translation: early stuff that’s kinda rough.)
I just quit for the afternoon. I decorated one cat body and one monster (I think it’s a girl monster - her eyebrows came out girlie.) I also pretty much finished Isaac’s dog dish. **MamaTigs ** - I think I’m going to be able to de-shard Rusty’s, so I won’t have to remake that one. And I fully intend to let Isaac’s dry completely before putting it in the kiln. I learned that lesson for sure!
I also threw 2 dog dishes that my sister asked for - lots smaller than the ones for the Idiots. I was going to trim the doggies and monsters that I threw the other day, but they were still too wet. Maybe tomorrow.
And I’ve done a load of whites, then a load of shirts-n-stuff that’s now in the dryer. I’ll do more laundry tomorrow when I have more clay play.
Speaking of dogs, StupidButtBernie snacked on some kitty tootsie rolls - **FCD ** had moved the cat box from the workbench area to the floor, giving easy access to the moron beast. eeeesh
Almost feeding time for my entourage, although StupidButtBernie may not be hungry.
Incidentally, I have it on good authority (that would be from my personal date book) that a certain old fart advances another year into geezerdom on Sunday. Start preparing now to heap abuse upon his aged, greying head.
I’m way behind in the MMP – spent most of yesterday in bed sick with some kind of 24-hour flu, and then today had to get up and do some SUPER DUPER RUSH Hill work – a committee hearing that went from 1 pm to past midnight, and they wanted the transcript today. Jeez. So everybody, even ones like me who are still recuperating from Teh Sick, had to do a chunk. Even the folks in the office who never transcribe.
I’ll respond to more stuff later. But when I read about your friend Libby, SCLI realized there was a reason I hadn’t sent off the Flying Spaghetti Monster yet. I’ve got a couple of nice patterns for chemo hats and some lovely soft cotton yarn, so I’ll knit her up a couple of quick hats and put them in the box.
Hey Fleader, when/where are you gonna be in Columbus? Wave as you go by me.
Thanks for the good wishes (and the ginger ale, of course). Seem to be doing better today. I think it might have been my lunch on Wednesday that didn’t quite agree with me.
Sorry to hear Libby’s back in the hospital, SCL.
I’m home early (well…I’ve been home for about an hour, actually), doing more laundry and clean-up.
I’ll be meeting little bro and kids at good Chinese in an hour and a 1/2 or so. Not sure yet how much I’ll be eating.
Not sure how much I’ll get to post on the weekend as bro and kids will be here till Sunday.
I, too, noticed a certain birthday creeping up on the calendar. Actually two birthdays if my calendar speaks the truth. The first one is Mr. Subliminal Beer Packager (Sunday), the second our sveltified EMT (Tuesday). I, too, am not sending subliminal [del]birthday wishes[/del] messages.
Gotta go put stuff away. Also, there’s a storm moving in (YAY for rain!).
FCM WOW, you are so talented!!! Will you be posting pictures of the monsters you are creating? I love all of your work!! I’m assuming that you sell your stuff, do you sell any online at all?
I do want something sweet to aid my in my unproductivity. Might make cookies or something. Or just go and buy some ice cream. And turn into a shapeless blob on my couch.
McUne, I’m enough of a self-promoter that I always post pics of my work - especially since the MMP is so good for my ego. So thanks for the kind words.
I’ve not set up a website to sell on line yet, but I hope to some day. I don’t know if you were around when I shared my husband’s inspired idea about my ceramics. For each piece, I’m going to figure out what it cost me in material and electricity to make it, then when it sells, anything over that cost goes to charity. So far, my 2 charities of choice are the local tri-county animal shelter and the women’s shelter. That way, my hobby is self-supporting, and my time turns into charitable donations. Because, luckily, I don’t have to rely on the pottery for income.
We’re just back from Bad Chinese, followed by **FCD ** getting his hair cut. He’s decided to do nothing this weekend, which I’m glad about - he needs to take a break. I’ll do some laundry and play with clay. It should be a mega-chilling weekend. Oh yeah…
Thanks for continuing to work on the Idiots’ bowls, FCM – they may not appreciate it, but I do!
I’m finally caught up, after two trips to the drugstore, where the idiots somehow managed to lose both our current insurance info and our current address. They had us back to our New Orleans address and last year’s insurance. :dubious: So of course I didn’t have the current insurance card, and had to run home for it. And then his prescription cost us $52 – if we didn’t have insurance it would have been over $260! Needless to say, if he takes this medication much longer (for his pinched nerve), we’re going to do the mail-order pharmacy thing for it – that way we’ll pay $35 for a 3-month supply as opposed to (counts on fingers) $156 buying it locally one month at a time.
I had to run drop off a FedEx, so I stopped at the yarn store and found some pretty, unbelievably soft bamboo yarn to make a chemo hat with. Bamboo yarn, at Michael’s! They never have anything but cheap yarns! So I was pleased.
Nice house, ems!
Sorry about the car expense, Rosie, and the flooding, BooFae. I’m just glad your house is on high ground.
Papa Tigs is feeling much relieved today – one piece of gummint property that he’s now responsible for, a cheap little Nikon digital camera, has been nowhere to be found for weeks now. It finally turned up today, so he doesn’t have to replace it. Of course, if he did, it would cost him about $100, as opposed to the $800 the gummint paid for it. Anyone want a $2,000 toilet?
Oh, well then. Carry on. Although I do have to say that there’s something to be desired in the case of male strippers. Women being bouncy. . .good. Men being bouncy. . . not as appealing, IMHO. And I don’t drink alcohol either, so that leaves me in the dust too. So I think I’m back to. . . knock it off and get back to work! Cause if I don’t get to, then neither do you. Although in this case, you’re already done with work. . .so. . . carry on.
Oh, I like that! So now it’s your fault that we don’t catch each other live. If only you stayed up until 2 am, then we’d be set. Here I am. . . 4 pm. . . waiting to talk to you, but where are you?. . . .snoozing away like a lazy slug. Hehe. This is working jus’ fine.
And is that the raciest (NOT racist) thing you could think of to say? How disappointing! You need to work on that.
I was using Fearless for a time, but that doesn’t seem right. YellowBelly is kinda long but colors are always good. Fleader has an interesting ring. FraidyCat is not my personal favorite. I think you need to post more before your name pops up. Just like naming cats (well, not just like), people’s personalities help pick the name. I’m undecided at the moment.
**
rigs**, have a good trip!
**
MagicEyes**, the same thing happened to me one year. They sent me two delinquent notices but I had sent my check by returned receipt, so I had the signature of the guy that received and signed for it. I offered to fax them a copy of that and they found the original. It was magic. They were pretty nice about it, though.
rosie,
Sleep good.
Make strong.
When come back, bring pie.
FCM, I can’t wait to see more pics. And of course we are here to boost your ego, and bring you chocolate, lol.
If you want to sell online, have you checked out etsy.com? I joined there to buy handcrafted items, and am toying with setting up my own shop. There is TONS of cool stuff on there!!
OK, I got in gear tonight - here are the freebies. The rules of the giveaway are as follows:
1 - If you want a piece, send me an email specifying which one, and alternates, if someone else asks first. Include your address - duh.
2 - Promise, on pain of, um, The Look, that you’ll reimburse me for the postage when you get your piece.
3 - After you’ve all had a chance to pick and choose, I’ll entertain requests for a second or third piece if you’re so inclined.
4 - Last time I did this, most postage ran from about $4 to $6 in the US. I’ll gladly send out of the country, and we can work out remuneration somehow.
So anyway, here we go. I’ll repost this in the next MMP also. Help me get rid of these things. Thank you for your support.
Oh yeah, and the can is in the pics to give you a sense of scale.
GT, I’ll be in Columbus the 11th and 12th. I’ll wave, but you too so I don’t look crazy!
Heff&Roo, I agree with you, though I’m pretty fond of Fleader. So thanks for the nickname, FCM!
Now for something kind of personal…my friend’s dad is dying. He had another heart attack today, his eleventh. He is pretty much ready to go, not in the sense of leaving his family of course, but that he has more or less no quality of life. Without wanting to divulge too many of his and his families’ details I was just hoping, maybe the Dopers who pray would pray for him? I know he and his family could use all the prayers or healing energies or whatever it is you all believe in as they can get. So if anyone finds time please, could you send some good vibes their way? Thank you so much.
