The Nth Annual "What do you want for Christmas?" thread

Nice. If there was even the remote possibility someone would buy it for me I’d have to put it on my list too, but alas…

I want my mother to come back home, for her to be mentally healthy, for my family not to fight, and for us to just have an ordinary Christmas.

I sure as hell know I’m not getting any of that, though, so chocolate would be nice. And/or money.

I’m spending Christmas in a 4 bedroom cottage with 13 adults (ish, my kids are included in that number) and 3 kids. What I want most for Christmas is that no one gets killed. There’s a not insignificant chance I won’t get it.

Yeah. snaps gum And nekkid.

A new job… but I think Santa’s gonna have a hard time fitting that in his bag.

I’ll settle for a diamond from the boyfriend.

I need clothes, also due to losing weight. I have some cute thing from REI on my Amazon wish list.

I’d like a nice electric kettle for making tea.

Knitting books and supplies, but not yarn. I need to pick the yarn out myself.

Husband and I agreed on the following for Christmas this year:

  • install overhead lighting and a ceiling fan in the bedroom
  • install a new outlet next to his sink in the master bath
  • run cable and power to wall-mount a TV across from the foot of the bed

We’re pretty excited about this. Also we might do stockings for each other so we have something to open Christmas morning.

My mom already sent her gift (money).

My husband and I don’t do gifts. We might buy something for us both to use - we’ll go shopping together.

I’d like a nice dinner. At a restaurant. That doesn’t have a menu on the damn wall over the cash registers. Getting him to do that? THAT would be a REAL Christmas miracle. :frowning:

I’ve got stuff on my list, sure. New pair of shoes, a small chest freezer, that kind of thing. But I’d really prefer people contributed to a few of my favorite charities. Other than a better job I don’t need much right now.

I always love getting graph paper notebooks (but not Moleskin brand). Dotted is good too, but impossible to find. If I ran the world, they would be the “default gift” instead of those atrocious bath set gift baskets.

You have my sympathies. Is this a family member’s house, or a family reunion at a national park, or what?

As for me, I generally ask for books I loved as a kid.

Health and happiness for all my family and friends.

And a reliable corps of minions to form the training cadre for my world-conquering hordes.

Damn, you beat me to it. I came in here to say peace on earth and a Kindle Paperwhite (which is especially greedy of me because I already have a Kindle Touch.)

I asked for one of these wooden bookmarks: http://www.mitercraft.com/wooden-bookmarks-4-ct.htm
The geometric designs are so beautiful.
I’ve actually had my eye on them since last year, when I’m pretty sure they were half the price!

What I really want but know I won’t get is to not get anything on my Amazon wish list. I mean, it’s not that I don’t want those things, but I would really, really love for people to put a little thought and effort into picking something out for me. At the very least, I’d like for them not to a) gloat over how easy the list makes their shopping while refusing to give me the tiniest hint about something for them or b) whine about how I need to add more options because there’s nothing on the list they want to buy. Also, if they didn’t buy off the Amazon list, they most likely either got me something from an independent yarn/quilt shop or from my Heifer International registry. Either of which would be pretty damn awesome.

A car. Just one that runs reliably.

New shoes. Maybe winter boots, even. The only pair I have is a pair of flats that’s now falling apart and smelling pretty rough.

And on the more frivolous end… candy. Or, even better, something like panera gift cards. I can’t justify spending money on stuff like that, but boy I sure do like it.

And, obviously, I wouldn’t turn down straight-up cash money.

My wife and I already exchanged gifts- we bought each other ski boots. And since we’ve been car shopping for a few months, I’ll probably buy her one this month.

Who says romance is dead?

For my family’s Pollyanna, I have to come up with a list that my giver can choose from, but I really can’t think of much. There’s a nice Henley sweater in the LL Bean catalog, but that’s the only material thing I’ll put on it. I’ll probably just suggest donations to a couple charities I support.

Anyone want to get me something from here?
