(The tour may have been canceled, but, I can’t resist Central Park in the snow. :))

OK, time to change the thread title. I’ve kicked out the last of the brunchers and it’s just me and a mountain of dirty dishes in my apartment.

The NY Dopefest Weekend is over! Fun time, all.

I may have something coherent to say once I get a bit of sleep in me.

Just got in. At the office going over some stuff with my staff. Once things settle in tomorrow I’ll write my summary. I had a great time and I can’t thank the whole lot of you NY dopers enough for making the weekend so great!!!

Countdown to next year starts now…

Lisa, some of those photos are absolutely stunning. Lovely work!

My pictures.

I had SUCH a fabulous time! I met so many people and everyone was incredibly nice. It was really cool seeing people I met at the one 3 years ago again, too. Billdo, you kick ass and you deserve a whole heap of credit for pulling together such an amazing weekend. That goes for the other planning people, too. The folks who planned the day trip events, the ethnic dinners, and any/all other behind the scenes stuff that was handled so smoothly that the rest of us mere mortals weren’t even aware of it.

Thank you to everyone, and especially Anita for driving me and putting up with sharing a hotel room with me, and Brooke and Brian (register already, Brian! Sheesh!) for pal’ing around with me all the time. Oh, and Stuy Guy for patience and coaching during my brief reign as Table Queen in the pool area at No Idea… similarly Lurker No More for the same kindness at Ace Bar playing darts (I really did improve, didn’t I?)

I can’t wait for next year when we can do it all again!

Oh yeah!
Anyone who took pics: if you would be so kind as to either:

A) email me (opalcat@fathom.org) a zip file of them (preferred)
or
B) give me permission to download them from a site where you already have them uploaded (more of a pain but I’ll do it)

I’d really like to add everyone’s to the Dopefest Gallery album for this fest.

Thanks!

Much fun was had and I’m still alive, so no complaints.

I’ll wait for some more replies before going on, but it was great meeting some of you for the first time.

OK, here goes my take on the weekend that was:

First off, you New York dopers rock!!! From Billdo and his planning summaries with phone numbers to ** Dephica** for an art education class on the Saturday trip to MOMAQns that I will always remember (well, not all the details, but the basic ideas around the lesson are ingrained.), and to the rest of you for your tireless efforts in tracking down bars, restaurants and other activities. It’s not easy being a social director: the planning, trying restaurants, bars and other things. I know it’s tough and I appreciate all of your efforts. You truly made New York City feel like home to me for the weekend and I can’t thank you enough for that.

After the worst plane ride of my life (and I flew for 17 hrs from Atlanta to Jo’burg) I arrived at my hotel and got ready for drinks at Blondies. When I got there, the place was packed. It was great to see some familiar faces ** the GeoBills, Euty & Persephone, Biggirl and Manny** And wow it was really great meeting a ton of new people: **Ginger of the North, RTFirefly, Opalcat, Winterwren, ** and at least a dozen others whose names I have forgotten in an alcohol haze. But that really was the purpose of the event, wasn’t it?

Saturday was our trip to MOMAQns after lunch at Uncle George’s. Again, I cannot say enough good things about Delphica our gracious and really smart tour guide. I want to be you when I grow up. It was great spending the day with **Av8rMike, his brother Phil, Barbarian & his wife (whose screen name escapes me, but who made sure I didn’t get left behind when I was being a slow walker), SmackFu & Acrylic Vessel, ** I hope I didn’t forget anyone. It really was a great time and my senses were overloaded from all the sights and sounds and ya know intelligent lunch table talk – couches in bathrooms and such.

The main event Saturday night was just so totally cool, I couldn’t possibly recount everything – at least not keeping it PG –13 or even R

Gingy you looked great in that skirt – don’t ever worry about your skills as a seamstress.
Acrylic Vessel grrrrrrrr that is all, just grrrrrrr
Hamadryad , LaurAnge and Stuyguy it was great having dinner with you.
Stuyguy you rule at pool. But wait til next year.

Sunday’s crappy weather did not keep the hardiest among us from heading out to Ellis Island. Billdo proved to be a great tour guide and was absolutely correct when he said the museum was fascinating. I would recommend a trip to Ellis Island to anyone. The photos and history there are really incredible. **Mattmcl, Opalcat, Brooke, Brian, Anhitavacation ** & I were really lucky to have such a great tour guide.

Sunday night’s Indian dinner was really great and the dinner table was lively and fun, especially when the group from the Brazillian outing joined us.

The bar after dinner, far and away had the best jukebox of the weekend, and better than any in my recent memory.

Monday’s Billdo’s Bagel Brunch was a great ending to a great weekend. A nice wind down to a chock full o fun time.

I am sure there are at least 50 other dopers that I talked to or laughed with that I didn’t mention here. All I can say is, the weekend wasn’t long enough to have all the conversations I wanted or to meet everyone I wanted.

Again, you NY dopers do rock, thanks so much for hosting and I look forward to seeing you all in May for the ChiDope!!!

Of course you did. The last game you only hit *TWO* spectators!

Seriously, you did. You saw how many fewer bounced to the floor later on. That's why I said unsolicited that you improved a lot. Otherwise, I'd have said it takes a while to get good (also true, and sidesteps any assessment of that day).

Now, your walking-on-icy-sidewalks needs a little work…

Got home last night, from what was undoubtedly the very best weekend of my life.

Thanks, NYC Dopers. You totally rock.

I am totally in love with you and your wife.

Heh. I saw you mentioned that in the other thread. My thanks. Good to see you again and have some more time to talk.

Not sure what we did to elicit love, but I’m sure A_V will try to get onto the boards today … if the internet lets her … and reply as well.

I think that next year we should do a field trip to The Big Duck . Definitely. :stuck_out_tongue:

Aaaahhhhh the Flanders duck!!! I was so excited when I finally saw it about 4 years ago. I was driving out to Southampton with a friend (actually, Cosmo, the one that forgot my birthday) and when I saw it I started hitting her leg and going “I saw the duck! I SAW THE DUCK!!” and cracking up. I think I scared her but that’s okay because, as we now know, she sucks. :stuck_out_tongue:

You forgot her screen name because it doesn’t really exist  However I tend to call her MrsB.

We both had a grand ol’ time meeting folks, and it was a heck of a lot of fun putting faces to screennames, and real names to screen names (but I always forget them afterwards…)

And I hereby promise to be more involved with planning next time, because I’m crazy.

More pics are up at the TMHP Dopefest Galleries: http://tinyurl.com/2tmfk PLEASE If you were there, help out and label some of them (just use the “post comment” button and give names where you know them, or any other details you want).

Also, if you took pictures, I’d really love to put them up there as well. Please send them to me!
I added the photo up UncleBill’s kilt btw…

Some photos. Almost too few to bother with, but what the hell.

Great pictures, Opal, and I’m only up to Friday. I added comments with names to the Blondies pictures, and I hope to get to the other ones soon.
