I still love Zelda. As I watched the moon set early this morning , I thought about my favorite game of all time. For some reason this morning the moon looked JUST like the moon in the game. The big tree across the street could be the Great Deku Tree if I look at it a certain way. When I get home, I’m going to connect my trusty N64, start a new game and try to recapture the joy I felt first playing it.
Did you know they released it for the gamecube? The original game, and a souped-up “Master Quest” (basically the same game with a few extra monsters). When I found out, I neither slept nor ate until I found a copy.
Althouh, I find it a bit of a pain to play with a gamecube controller. The little yellow stick isn’t the greatest controller when it comes to actually playing the Ocarina.
Extra monsters? Wha? I thought it was all the same except all the dungeons were redesigned (all germ dungeons and all 6 medalion dungeons…I think Ganondorf’s castle was the same, not sure though.)
But Ocarina rocked so much ass. Hopefully the new Zelda (Twilight Princess) will also kick much arse. That right there is reason enough for me to get a Gamecube.
In all honesty, I didn’t play it very far. I just remember thinking “Stupid master quest, they’re the same levels with a few extra bad guys!” and never looked back.
It’s been a while since I played it, but I’m pretty sure there were no new monsters. They changed the puzzles in the dungeons, however, and how you played through them. It’s kind of like replaying the game only on a harder level. I’m not sure if I would have bought it since I already have OoT, but since it came free with Wind Waker…
It is a damn good game. Although I like Majora’s Mask better. I even managed to get 100% on it, although I had to make a spotter for the archery bits. A small red square and a bit of tape on the TV for that.
These games really make me want a girlfriend so we can write walkthroughs together. Cause that’s gamer love.
Earthworm Jim: Agreed. Doubly so when trying to pick off that giant roaring $ENEMY charging at me.
To be specific, the game was a “limited edition disc” that comes with:
– Original Zelda 1 and 2
– Demo of Wind Waker
– Ocarina of Time (I think this is the Master Quest, no?)
– Majora’s Mask
– Some other clips and such
Caveat: Apparently the sound can be a bit out of sync due to the porting, as per the notice when loading the game.
I’m in the middle of playing Majora’s Mask, since I lurved me some Ocarina so much. And Twilight Princess is definitely, definitely on my game shopping list when it comes out.
I didn’t like it. True, I never ever picked up Zelda until Ocarina of Time, and had no experience with it, but a lot of it just annoyed me and I’m an avid game player.
Should I try again? Maybe I can come here for tips? I have it on the GC.
My advice is to not worry too much about the searching for all the bits and just try to advance the story along as quickly as possible. At least I assume it would be the searching that bores you. It would make the game harder to win since you wont have as many hearts but if you’re a gamer that shouldn’t be too troublesome. You don’t have to fight monsters to get stronger like in Final Fantasy so just run away from them when you can.
Or if you do like searching keep copious notes on where you find hearts of other things. I always liked the searching part and rooting out the various trading chains. I wish they had more of the later that were harder to figure out.
The only Zelda game I played before Ocarina was whatever Zelda came out for the Super Nintendo. Link to the Past maybe?
Anyways, definitely give it another try. Ocarina of Time is the game Alias and I judge all other games by. If a game is great, we refer to it as being “zelda good.”
For tips, go to GameFaq. They’ve got walkthroughs on just about everything. If they don’t have it, I’m sure any of the numerous Zelda fansites will have something for you.
Actually, the bonus disk came out some time before Wind Waker, but you had to have pre-bought Wind Waker to get it. You should be able to pick it up pretty cheap at an Electronics Boutique or any other place that sells used video games.
God I love that game. I think I’ve beaten OoT at least five times.
The two Zelda games for the N64 (OOT and MM) are my two favourite video games ever.
Once you get used to the controls on the gamecube version it’s just as good.
Anyone else find that the Water Temple in the Master Quest is actually easier than in the original version?
I’ve played a demo of Twilight Princess and if you like OOT I’m pretty sure Twilight princess will hit the mark. The fighting on horseback was the highlight of the demo.
