I recently preordered the new “cel-shaded” Zelda for Gamecube. After months of disliking the new look, I actually played the game at a local retailer. All I can say is…seeing is believing. Cannot wait to play this game. My advice is give it a chance, in less than two minutes you’ll be hooked!
I’ve played it too, it’s pretty amazing. Once you play the game, the style makes a lot more sence. Perhaps I was a little shocked that I could move this little cartoon around as if I were playing the N64 instalments wich seemed more… structiual? Or maybe the N64 instalments LOOKED as though it had a better sence of space. I don’t know!!! The fact is, it’s just as easy controling the cartoon.
I haven’t been this excited over a game for a while now.
Exactly. I could not believe how natural the control was. And it seems as though Ganondorf will be the villain again. Can’t wait to see all the old characters in their new cartoon forms.
It’s not out for another month!
I also think the cell-shading looks great but I was hoping the game play was varied somewhat. I played through the MasterQuest Ocarina for old times sake and went a tried the demo at a retailer. Again, looked great!, but it was just too similar; i.e. breaking jars, opening chests, lighting torches.
A Link to the Past and Ocarina were so different I guess I was hoping for something other than an Ocarina re-hash with a new graphic styling.
Maybe i’m wrong and will be suprised with some intuitive new gameplay. We’ll see.
I’m still not too crazy about the graphics. Looks like an episode of a pokemon. Nonetheless, I reserved it, and imagine my excitement that it came with another disc! Well, the master quest is
Different, but way too slightly. You’re not missing anything
I think it looks great. I’m getting it the day it comes out. I’m trying to play Ocarina of Time for the first time now(on the Cube). I find the controls not so perfect.
I had my doubts at first, but I think I’ll like it once I get the game. In the meantime, I’ve got the bonus disk to occupy me (although Mahaloth has an excellent point-the controls are not what they were on the 64), and odds and ends to do in other games. Mr. Naz is still skeptical, though.
I thought it was just me. I’m having a hell of a time with it.
But keep in mind that the game was made to be played with the N64 controller. I’d imagine it must have been a little taxing trying to figure out how to translate the preexisting control scheme to Cubes button layout.
BTW, I thought it controlled AMAZINGLY on N64.
I found the controls rough at first (sure miss that convenient Z-Trigger on the N64) but once you get used to them it feels natural.
The only odd control still is playing the Ocarina with the green button and the yellow joystick, makes it harder to memorize often used melodies.
I can’t wait…
I love the look. I would like a “real” looking Zelda game too, or perhaps a all-new look.
The only trouble I’ve had with it is that I’m a little slower to play the tunes with the c-stick than with the old pad. Since time freezes when you pull out the ocarina, it’s not a big problem.
I’m going to wait and see on Windwaker. I don’t really like the new look, but I’m hoping the gameplay will make up for it.
Forgive my ignorance, but how is this accomplished? Is there a version of the game (which I’ve not seen) on Cube? Or can you use the 64 game?
Thanks!
If you pre-ordered Wind Waker you got a free disk earlier this month that had OoT and OoT:Master Quest on it. Good deal, IMO.
I have a Xbox, and I am pretty loyal to it. However, for Xmas, I got gooti a GameCube. That’s more up her alley. I have not played any Zeldas since The first SNES Zelda was released where you could agitate the chickens – I played that about halfway but never finished. The first 8-bit Zelda game was probably my favorite game on any system until Halo was released on Xbox. (Let’s please keep console debates to any of the other 379 threads on that topic)
Anyway, I am awfully tempted to get the new Zelda for gamecube. Everyone here who is raving about it, have you followed all the Zelda games from NES to SNES to N64? Will I be missing much if I try to pick this one up?
My big thing with the controls is this(and note, I have not played very far due to frustration):
Okay, in Eternal Darkness(great game by the way, pick it up…$20), you can lock on easily with the R button. You can then select body parts to hack off and do whatever you want.
In Ocarina, you use the L button I believe to lock on, but(and correct me if I’m wrong), letting it go doesn’t stop locking on. You have to cycle through other things instead of just look at them to lock on to them. I don’t get it. I think I’d find it frustrating on the N64 even. It’s just…awkward.
I realize this is supposed to be one of the best games of all time, so I think I’ll pick it back up and trust that I will get used to it.
To Mahaloth:
Hit L button once to lock on an enemy.
Hit L button again to unlock.
Personally, i think the new Zelda looks like crap. I don’t mind the cel shaded look in itself, but the art style in this game is extra ugly, especially Link. If you want to see good cel shading, check out Wild Arms 3 (PS2) or The Last Express (PC).
