The Ocarina of Time

Come on. It’s a hammer. A big freakin hammer! You squash the enemies witha big hammer! It’s fun. You can also stun enemies with it to get close and smash 'em flat.

I admit the Goron sword is loads more practical, but doing the jump/slash with a hammer is pimp.

Yeah, I suppose the hammer was pretty cool at first. Playing whack-a-mole with that dragon boss was great

I don’t think I’ve played that game in six or seven years. To be honest, I don’t have any desire to play it ever again. It was perfect, I guess I just got enough out of it the first four times through.

So what were everyone’s favorite Ocarina songs? At the time, it was Bolero of Fire. The scene where you learn it is just so cool. If I heard the songs again today I might choose a different one.
Did anyone else cheat with the scarecrow song by just playing the same note eight times?

My favourite Ocarina songs were Bolero of Fire, and Saria’s Song. Most of the songs were pretty good though, except for the Sun’s Song.

Who knew that the Link/Zelda programmers were closet Og-ites?

New Wave Bossa Nova. Song of Healing was great too, especially the scene where

You heal the mummy/scientist and his daughter comes over to comfort him.

I mist up there everytime.

Yeah, but they’re great target practice.

Talon Karrde

Guilty. But what’s worse is that when I became an adult, I forgot the note I had played.

I was an idiot and replaced my magic beans with a bottled fairy. Of course, the game doesn’t recognize that, duh! I had to restart, but now I’m at the sub boss of Jabu Jabu and I can’t seem to kill him! Errrgggh.

Saria’s song…that’s not a ringtone on my phone when the wife calls. And the Hyrule Field song isn’t the ringtone when my brother calls. Who told you otherwise…he’s a liar!

Heh. The bolero of fire reminded me of something that cracked me up in the game. Alias was playing the game when she got hit by a firebat and got set ablaze. She meant to use the sword but hit the wrong button. What she got was Link, on fire, rocking back and forth waiting to play a song.

You’ve think the Song of Storms would help, but no.

Ahhhh! I want Zelda ringtones!

Quick question gamer Dopers: I’m still playing and I’m curious about those behive thingies in the corners of some grottos. What are they there for?

I’m looking at everything this time and I’m having a ball!

I think you can crack them open and earn rupees. Try the slingshot.

Oh. Not a Doctor Who thread.

Nevermind.

Carry on.

My six year old son is in there playing Wind Waker as we speak. I’ve been playing it some today, myself!

As for the ocarina songs in OOT–is it just me, or does Song of Storms sound a bit like a Willy Wonka tune? (“Come with me, and you 'll be in a world of pure imagination!”) It’s not exactly the same, but similar enough that when I play it I can’t help but think of the lyrics!

I’ve played Wind Waker and loved it. I’ve been meaning to get Ocarina for N64 or maybe the GC version, but now I’ve heard the new Nintendo system coming out is going to play older games, which you can download. Woot!

Maybe Ocarina will be one of them, 'cause I plan on selling a kidney if that’s what it takes to get the new Nintendo system.

Xbox can [censored] me!

Zelda was the sole reason I considered getting Gamecube, but for some reason I did not like the Wind Waker screen shots and got a PS2 instead.

As for Ocarina, it is truly an excellent game. It is ranked up there with Super Mario 3 as being way ahead of its time.

Story wise, it is still the best.

It was criticized for not using state-of-the-art graphics. It’s true too. But it was still an awesome game and proved games don’t necessarily need SOTA graphics to be good.

Coming out of N64 & Mario & all that, the graphics were fine.
