The oddest posters

ah I see.

::reddened, turning my head slightly to the side, with hand to mouth::

Must be a special crosswords skill or something you guys have.

This gardener uses Felco secateur holsters exclusively. Before I established my own (solo) business, I worked with others, and sometimes got the Spockian eyebrow when mentioning…well…a certain modified way of referring to those secateur holsters.

Rim a retriever, apparently.

One guy who sticks in my mind, even though he wasn’t here for long, is uchtungbaby. His idea was that – and I think it’s only fair to quote him directly – “Those who believe Mary [Shelley] wrote Frankenstein are suffering from the brainwashing of modern feminism and the revisionism of gay science.”

He may have been crazy, but he had a lovely turn of phrase.

Oh. Actually on second thoughts I might just stick with “boring”.

What does Nietzsche have to do with Frankenstein?

Nietzsche is the name of the flat-pack Übermensch from Ikea.

I think.

sweat209 is back after a blissful hiatus. I suppose some would place him in some troll category, but to me he’s just so very, very odd. So absolutely sure of his opinions that when he’s the one asking the question instead of butting in with wrong answers, he can’t accept any of the responses as correct. Sometimes he’s sort of right of course, because the answers doesn’t fit the question, but that’s mostly because the question was incomprehensible in the first place.

And his clarifications don’t help much … or is it just my reading comprehension?

“MANNY PEOPLES” wasn’t his screen name, actually (with or without caps). And there were multiple people doing it, so some of us suspected it was insiders having fun with the rest of us. ZSPhobiaSZ was one such screen name; ZPhobiaZ was another. 'Twas back in the AOL days; AOL screen names were something like 5 to each AOL account so it was easy for one person to create socks, or in this case for multiple people (PEEPLES?) to create similar-looking socknames.

In or around 2006 I went back on AOL and dug through the still-extant remains of the AOL SDMB (the keyword was disabled but there was some URL that worked) just to preserve some things, and so here, for your amusement, are some authentic Manny Peoples posts. (the non-capitalized bits are where he was quoting some other doper and then replying in all caps):

I did mention (one of) the actual screen names. I’m so proud my SDMB history goes back this far, and so sad that this is something I’m proud of. Kinda makes me an odd poster. Not the oddest, though.

Me too. I’m almost embarrassed about some of the arcane knowledge of SDMB that’s lodged in my head.

Too many of my anecdotes start with, ‘‘Several years ago, on this message board I frequent…’’

Remember Yakuza, the dude who claimed to be homeless because he preferred to spend all his money on hookers? He planned on getting a “free girl” eventually, though.

Whaaa… How did I miss that mess?

Actually, a number of things. There’s probably a pretentious undergraduate philosophy thesis in there for anyone who wants to pursue the subject.

Isn’t that the Tÿler Dürden?

ZPG Zealot is again showing how batshit insane she is in the “polite things that aren’t” thread. She apparently stopped talking to people she liked enough to invite to her wedding because they congratulated her on getting married.

I’m surprised nobody has mentioned in this whole thing yet about Beryl Mooncalf.

He argued with Bricker here and goes completely off the rails in it starting in post number 119.
From then on, his posts are mostly gibberish. Actually, up until that post they were mostly gibberish too.

Another horrible trainwreck back in the day that just got worse and worse (and coming from a poster who, up until that point, had seemed mostly normal) was this one by FreakFreely. it’s scary to read his rapid descent in that thread into…the insanity that he thinks is okay.

Speaking of odd (in a trollish way), there’s the long-departed ORION*******ORION, who gave us such classic threads as “Are jewish religion and ideology a threat to us all” and “Homosexuality, a crime ?” (his answer was yes to both propositions). He also opined that gay men really dug women, deep down (something about grooving on their clothes).

Alas, he was the victim of a narrow-minded banning. :frowning:

Just for the record, in case anyone just wants to get to the good parts: This thread builds up and builds up and turns more and more against FF until he’s highly on the defense and even asking for the thread to be closed… that all even comes BEFORE his post 160.

Post 160 however is where it really turns into one of the worst trainwrecks that I have no idea or understanding why anyone would want to do to themselves…it’s a post in where he admits the actual truth of the situation and how it was really much worse than anyone previously thought (or that he had been saying all long).

Yeah. That’d be number one on my top ten SDMB trainwrecks of all time if a list was made. : p

Did anyone mention this poster, who just now is asking about how to avoid being heard peeing into a toilet?
